Chapter 308: Chapter 308. White Gold Palm

During the next few days, Amon stayed inside the Royal Academy. He didn’t take any mission. He just stayed inside his residence and cultivated. Xin Wuming brought him reports about the underworld situation.

Gao Lan took over management of the Demon Gang, for which Xin Wuming was grateful. He had his hands full dealing with the Vicious Faction. With Amon no longer could be seen anywhere near the underworld, Xin Wuming worked full-time. This took a toll on his cultivation pace. After handing over the responsibility of leading the Demon Gang to Gao Lan, he could return to his academic activities.

Having been in charge of the Sewer Snakes before, Gao Lan was like a fish in the water. She spent no time familiarizing herself with her tasks.

Her previous position as the second-in-command in Sewer Snakes gave her quite a name in the underworld. Many Demon Gang members already knew her. Some members were even past Sewer Snakes members. So, many respected her.

The ones not familiar with her were the bandits Amon recruited from the wilderness. However, Gao Lan’s recent feat had drawn their admiration. The feat was her enacting revenge for her past boss. This was even done by infiltrating the enemy’s headquarters and single-handedly killing the enemy boss, who had a cultivation level way higher than hers. This granted her the respect she needed to govern this bunch of hoodlums.

However, the feat was not without consequences. The authorities might not care about the death of an underworld member, but the affected underworld organization itself was out for blood. When they heard their leader’s killer was now in charge of the Demon Gang, the Highwaymen wasted no time to mount an assault.

A big-scale battle was conducted in a district under Demon Gang’s control. This battle was, of course, planned to ensure that civilians were not involved. The battle ended with a draw. After that, small conflicts continued to occur, especially in the border districts between the two underworld organizations.

These conflicts were so regular that they disrupted the stability in those districts. The authorities had no choice but to act. City guards patrolled the streets in those border districts to prevent any fight from happening again. Thus began a period of forced peace between the Demon Gang and the Highwaymen.

Amon didn’t involve himself in those conflicts. The Demon Gang could hold up by itself against the Highwaymen. There was no need for him to act. He was glad about this. This showed that his force possessed a solid foundation to stand on its own.

Amon didn’t worry about the demon gang. After losing Gao Pan, the Highwaymen had become much weaker than before. What he was more worried about was the consequence of taking out Yan Fan.

As expected, Yan Clan came knocking a few days after the incident. Amon was in the basement of his residence at the time. He expected to get a summon to the principal’s office. Instead, he got the sign that trouble had arrived when the words of power around the basement suddenly stopped working as if someone had turned them off.

Without waiting to find out what was happening, he threw a needle containing a sedative drug at Wu Qiu, who was still locked inside a cage. Wu Qiu fell asleep at once. Amon then covered the cage with a black cloth and stored it inside his black space ring.

It was lucky he acted fast because by then, he heard footsteps going down the stairs. Seven people entered his basement. Four, he knew. The other three, he didn’t.

The four he knew were Gao Xi, Yong Baili, Wei Linkun, and Yan Dose. As for the other three, he had an idea about one of them. This was because he had an intel of this person. He was proven right when this person introduced himself.

"I have heard about you for some time," the person said. "I normally didn’t bother myself to deal with someone of a low status such as you, but you have been so outrageous that I have no choice but to involve myself. My name is Yan Wang. I am the clan head of Yan Clan, and I am here to bring you to justice."

"Hold it, Mister Yan," Yong Baili said. "I agree to bring you here because you promise to talk first. I can’t agree if you attempt to dispense a one-sided justice."

"Tutor Baili, the evidence is so obvious already. What is there to talk about?" Gao Xi said.

One of the two, who Amon didn’t know, chuckled. He said, "Tutor Baili, you agreed to bring us here not because we promised you anything but because you had no choice."

"Haha, Uncle Gao Zhong, you are right!" Yan Dose exclaimed. He felt good humiliating Yong Baili. Yong Baili was An Guan’s aide, and he hated An Guan because that man was the one who expelled him.

Yong Baili furrowed his brows. What they said was true. This group came to An Guan’s office because he was one of the few who had full authority in this Royal Academy. Unfortunately, An Guan was not around, so he was called instead. As An Guan’s aide, he had the key to accessing the top ten students’ residences. He could not deny the request because this group brought someone who outranked him by a great deal. He sent someone to inform either Head Tutor Lao Zen or Principal Li Niang about the situation while he brought this group to Amon’s house. He hoped they could come soon. But even so, he doubted they could do anything.

Among the group, the one who triggered the most danger sense to Amon was Yan Wang. Amon believed this man possessed the highest cultivation compared to the others. According to his intel, Yan Wang’s cultivation was the Peak Spirit stage of the Martial realm.

However, the one with the most imposing look was the remaining one, who Amon didn’t recognize. The person was an elderly man wearing a regal uniform. Amon believed he was a high-ranking member of the kingdom. Everyone in the group seemed to stand in a deferential manner to him, even Yan Wang.

"Look at him getting scared to silence, hah!" Yan Dose mocked Amon.

"You are still green, my son. I don’t see fear in his eyes," Yan Wang said. His feet slowly left the ground, and he floated toward Amon. "But he will, soon."

"Mister Yan!" called Yong Baili. He was about to chase Yan Wang to dissuade him from doing anything to Amon, but Gao Zhong stopped him.

"Please stay back, tutor Baili," Gao Zhong said.

Yong Baili wasn’t afraid of Gao Zhong. It was the glance from the elderly man in the regal uniform who discouraged him from stopping Yan Wang. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"As I said, I have heard a lot about you, student Lin Mo," Yan Wang said as he approached Amon. "Everything you have done is incredible for someone your age. If I heard your achievements from rumors, I would have dismissed them as false news. I can’t, though, because many of your achievements have caused me no end of headache."

Amon finally spoke, "If you aim for the top, you must be prepared to get knocked around a bit. Everyone is aiming for the same thing, after all, and there is only so little space at the top."

"Hahaha!" Yan Wang laughed. "What an interesting way to phrase it. I guess you wouldn’t mind if I knocked you around a little?"

"If you have no shame about bullying a junior, I guess I don’t have a choice," Amon said.

"Hehe. Such bold words. I guess one doesn’t understand fear when one never experiences pain. Allow me to teach you a small lesson."

"Mister Yan, please do not cause any trouble! You are here to question him!" Yong Baili exclaimed, but Yan Wang acted like he didn’t hear anything.

Yan Wang lifted his hand. The skin on his hand started turning golden. The air around it shimmered.

"You know. Even before you were born, I made my name in the cultivation world using my signature art. Many in the current generation probably weren’t aware of my art since I rarely get into confrontations anymore. But in the past, everyone in Qishurg City would tremble when they heard about my White Gold Palm."

Yan Wang’s palm suddenly exuded a bright white flash. Amon used Lingering Shade Stride as soon as he felt the danger. The white flash from Yan Wang’s palm traveled forward before hitting the wall at the far end. No enchantment was protecting the wall since the words of power were off. The white energy from Yan Wang spread along the wall. When the white energy dissipated, a golden layer covered the hit wall.

"Ugh!"

Amon’s response might have been fast due to his keen danger sense, but it was not enough. He looked at his left hand. He could no longer use that hand because it had turned into rigid gold.
