Chapter 139: Final match

As expected, Sophia’s team had a relatively easy victory. Their opponents weren’t weak, but they also didn’t stand a chance against a group made up of three students who could easily be ranked S.

In fact, Sophia herself already held that rank. Moreover, Carlos was only Rank A because he had dropped out of the test to help his lady, and Rowan had only failed the test because he faced Davi too early.

Just those three were enough to unbalance the fight, but, as expected, the rest of the blonde’s team was also excellent. Liza was an outstanding archer, surprisingly versatile and capable of adapting to different combat situations.

Ronald had defensive abilities second only to Alden’s, but he didn’t have any curses preventing him from attacking. That made his destructive power truly impressive.

Lastly, Rile was a formidable warrior and someone who particularly caught Davi’s attention as he watched Sophia’s group fighting.

The man wasn’t particularly strong, but he was extremely well-balanced between defense and offense.

Not to mention he was incredibly skilled. He could easily fight someone much stronger for hours without being defeated. And his specialty seemed to be endurance battles.

It would be a disaster if he managed to neutralize one of the strongest members of our group... Davi thought to himself.

"I want to fight him," Lara said the next moment, pointing at Rile, who stood confidently in the middle of the arena.

Davi was surprised by the sudden request, Lara never asked him for anything. "Why? Do you have something against him?"

"No, no, nothing like that," she was quick to explain. "He just looks strong, and I feel like fighting him will help me improve my skills. Besides, he never accepts duels during combat classes," she added, pouting.

Davi knew that letting Lara fight that guy would be a waste, she was the member with the highest attack power in the group. Still, winning without her was possible, and if that fight really could help her grow, he saw no reason to say no.

"Okay, but I recommend you don’t rush when fighting him. If you go all out, you might win, but it’s more likely you’ll end up out of energy and be defeated."

"Understood, I’ll do my best!" She smiled animatedly. "Thank you for granting my request," she said, bowing.

Davi responded by stroking the top of her head, telling her she didn’t need to worry about it.

That said, he was already thinking about the strategy he’d use against that group. Ultimately, he thought it was almost inevitable that the pair of siblings, Rowan and Ember, would want to fight each other directly. That would leave a 4 vs 4 situation. What would be the best strategy to win in that case?

Meanwhile, in her own home, Sophia was also watching videos of the semi-final, but in her case, she was watching Davi’s group’s combat. The problem was that they had won with relative ease, making them hard to analyze.

In particular, Davi showed none of his abilities, and she had no idea how much he had evolved. Without a doubt, it wouldn’t be easy to win.

The blonde could only sigh deeply. All she wanted at that moment was to be resting. Sophia loved spending afternoons lazily sprawled on the couch, but unfortunately, she knew that if she didn’t give her all, she wouldn’t stand a chance of winning.

"Even if we prepare well... I think they are still stronger," she murmured, letting out another heavy sigh.

It was frustrating. She was used to always being ahead of others. Having to face a more powerful team was irritating. Very irritating.

"Just don’t get in my way. After I destroy my sister, I can help you with the rest," Rowan said with an arrogant tone, but Sophia decided not to argue with him.

She called the idiotic redhead to her team because he was strong, and she had no better options, but he was also a pain. The rest of her team consisted of well-trained and obedient students who would do anything to follow her plan. But that redhead never listened to her.

Sophia could only lament; if only she could have someone like Alexia, who, besides being powerful, was excellent at following orders. But unfortunately, that woman chose to stay by Davi’s side.

In fact, even having Kyros would be great, but that idiot was unnecessarily loyal to Luis. That said, there was no point in complaining, she had one of the best teams available and would make the best use of them.

After all, she hated losing.

Besides, there was that bet... she blushed slightly thinking about what would happen if she lost. Maybe she should just give up? freёnovelkiss-com

Well, her competitiveness would never allow that.

Not to mention that she obviously didn’t want to be just another girlfriend. She wanted to be the main wife, and for that, she needed to win the bet and make Davi obedient to her.

4 days later

"Captains, greet each other," the judge ordered.

At that moment, the stands were completely packed. The crowd cheered, celebrating that the combat was about to begin. The sound of their cheers resonated through the enormous arena, which resembled a grand stadium.

In the center was a 20 by 20-meter square where the fight would take place. Around it, four enormous crystal obelisks rose, responsible for generating a transparent dome that blocked magic, ensuring the spectators’ protection.

On one side of the arena, six figures lined up in disciplined formation: Davi’s team. On the other side, Sophia’s team maintained an equally determined posture. The two teams stared at each other across the battlefield.

The judge, a tall man with gray hair and formal robes in shades of purple and silver, raised his hand, signaling for the captains to come to the center of the arena.

Davi stepped forward, separating from his group. His eyes were focused and determined, but a slight smile played on his lips as he walked with firm steps to the center of the arena.

From the opposite side, Sophia advanced with an elegance only she could possess. The strong sun of that day reflected in her golden hair, and her beauty drew the gaze of everyone in the audience.

The two met precisely in the center of the arena, where a softly glowing runic mosaic lay. For a moment, they simply observed each other in silence.

"You look beautiful even in armor, Sophia," Davi broke the silence, smiling slightly.

"Compliments won’t get you anywhere," she commented, raising an eyebrow and smiling back. "I’m not going easy on you."

"Don’t worry, I want you to give your best; it wouldn’t be fun to win any other way." Davi replied confidently. "And don’t forget our bet," he took a step forward, practically kissing the girl.

Sophia’s cheeks gained a faint pinkish hue, but her gaze remained firm. "Of course, I remember." She then smiled, a challenging smile that lit up her face. "I’m not going to lose, no matter what."

"I say the same."

The judge approached them, his purple robe rippling around him as if alive. He looked from one to the other, assessing them with experienced eyes that had witnessed hundreds of duels.

"Captains," he said, his voice magically amplified so everyone in the arena could hear, "remember the rules. The duel ends when all members of one team are incapacitated or surrender. Lethal magic is strictly forbidden." He paused significantly. "This is a competition, not a war."

Both Davi and Sophia nodded in understanding.

"Return to your teams," the judge ordered. "When the bell sounds, the battle will begin."

The two captains exchanged one last look, charged with determination, before turning their backs on each other and returning to their respective teams.

The judge walked to the edge of the arena, where a small elevated platform awaited him. He ascended it with measured steps, and once positioned, raised both arms.

"Competitors ready!" his voice thundered through the arena, instantly silencing the crowd.

The rune in the center of the arena glowed intensely for an instant, indicating the event was about to commence.

"May the Academy’s honor be preserved in this duel!" proclaimed the judge, lowering his arms in a swift motion. And the rune’s glow vanished.

A crystalline bell chimed, its sound reverberating throughout the arena as if coming from everywhere at once.

"Begin!"

With those words, the judge swiftly withdrew from the arena and floated at a distance from which he could intervene if any rule were broken.
