Chapter 40: The Hunt [4]

"Someone help me!!! Please!!!!" A voice cries out in the distance.

My thoughts disappear as I begin to run towards the cries. It couldn’t possibly be the puppeteer interfering with things so soon.

Multiple possibilities run through my mind as I continue to run towards the person crying for help. Eventually I reach the street where it’s coming from and I can see multiple sets of glowing eyes.

Ahead a human is standing up on top of two crates holding a small lighter, blood dripping down his hands.

At least it isn’t another trick by one of these hybrids to throw me off. I can definitely handle a couple of monsters with no trouble. I’ve grown a bit more confident since killing so many of them.

Clang!!

I tap my sword on the ground loud enough for them to shift their attention to me. All of the red eyes are staring right at me now, ready to kill me the moment they have the chance.

Quickly I take a step back and prepare for them to rush me.

"You can’t kill them man, just run away!!" He shouts with fear in his voice.

He definitely hasn’t awakened any power yet if he thinks that we are completely powerless against these things. I’ll just have to show him that it is possible to kill these things.

Then again, I’m not using any special powers against them. Everything is swordsmanship and speed that I learned from training with Airi.

Maybe the speed could be considered part of power?

Stomp!! Stomp!!!

They begin to rush me, stomping as loud as possible. This alone is giving me a lot of information about where they are going to strike from.

Hyup! Tumble!

I jump out of the way and roll across the ground as one lunges towards me, missing the moment I rolled. The others all seem to lunge within the next moment as well.

It starts to become instinct for me as I swing my sword. Left, right, left, right, up.

Blood begins to paint the streets once more as each one hits the ground, leaving me unharmed. Every single one of them attacked without even trying to sync up.

Five more dead zierel lay on the ground while I still remain standing.

"You actually killed them all! Holy sh*t!!" He shouts with a surprised tone.

He climbs down from the two crates and takes a few steps towards me.

"Yeah, they need to die," I reply with a serious tone.

"I’ve just never seen any humans fighting back against them," He says quietly.

"Most humans have gone to places that are protected by light. I’d recommend going there," I respond while wiping my sword off.

"What about you?" He asks.

"I need to help whoever else is hiding within this district," I answer calmly.

I continue to walk after responding since I don’t really have a lot of time to waste here. Zierel are also on the hunt right now so I need to beat them to the punch, otherwise people will die.

I do stop for a moment as I listen for the sound of the man running, he’s definitely gone now.

It makes me wonder how many more people are just hiding around here defenseless like him. I used to be the same way so I can’t really fault them for it.

There wasn’t a power awakening for me to use against the monsters when they broke into my home. I don’t even know if it would make a difference if I did have one.

I’d have no idea of how to use it anyway.

"Sigh. I guess it is kind of pointless to think about," I say out loud after letting out a sigh.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

My heart is starting to race again, but this time I don’t understand why since I’m not really panicking about anything. I don’t have anything to fear right now either.

With that I start to look all around me for sight of anything at all. I don’t notice a single person or monster around the area though, almost like nothing is here.

Maybe I just need to take a deep breath quickly... I just have to relax. There’s no reason for my heart to be beating out my chest like this all of a sudden.

Grasp.

But everything changes when I feel something grabbing onto my shoulder.

"I didn’t think I’d find another human out here hunting! I actually am quite excited!" He shouts with excitement.

I turn around to see a man wearing similar clothing to Airi, all white with a strange symbol of light on his chest. Blue eyes with the same cross like symbol within his pupils.

He has short black hair that just barely reaches above his eyes and he is smiling quite big.

"A light bearer? I didn’t expect to see another one out here," I say with a casual tone.

"You aren’t surprised in the slightest... Huh. Most humans are happy to finally meet me or to find someone to protect them," He replies while throwing his arms behind his head.

"I’ve been hunting so it is safe to assume I can handle myself," I say as my sword disappears.

I didn’t purposely make the sword go away but it did, what a pain. This guy isn’t much of a threat though since he’s a light bearer. I’m sure Airi will be surprised to hear that I ran into another one out here.

Not that I really know how rare it is to find other light bearers.

"So all those dead ones I’ve been seeing, that was you?" He questions with a serious look on his face.

"Yes," I answer without wasting a second.

"Awesome. It does save me quite a bit of time if I don’t have to be the one to kill them," He says with a laid back tone.

"Great," I reply quietly.

Something about this guy pisses me off and I don’t know what it is.
