Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 57: The Long Road [2]
I sit with Amelia for awhile as she recovers some of her energy, nothing else really happens during this time.
The path ahead isn’t really easy to see with how dark it is around us.
But Amelia stands back up with the lantern in her hand, so I stand up as well. With this we begin to start our journey once again while keeping an eye out for anymore zierel.
The wind is the only thing I really notice going past is as we walk along the street.
To think this is what it is like outside of the city so far... It is kind of sad. All these abandoned cars with no sign of life whatsoever.
It makes me wonder about how many people actually survived the beginning of the suns disappearance.
"What do you think the Fortified City looks like?" Amelia asks, trying to make conversation.
"Maybe they actually made some sort of defenses around the city, walls or something. That is my guess," I answer while scratching my head.
"How could they make walls with the way the world is?" Amelia questions curiously.
"It could’ve been done with magic or something," I respond.
"Magic. I do forget about it sometimes," Amelia says as she walks.
"It is hard not to, especially if you don’t use it," I reply, kind of agreeing with her.
Magic is the one thing I haven’t really tried to use since I’m not sure I have any magic capabilities to begin with. Nothing that is obvious to me of course.
I remember that usually humans are capable of using one guaranteed but I haven’t felt anything.
"What kind of magic would you use?" Amelia asks with curiosity.
I take a moment to think on it.
"I think some sort of lightning like magic would be pretty neat to use," I respond. "What about you?"
"Wind magic maybe or Teleportation magic," Amelia answers.
I didn’t really think about teleporting magic before but I’m sure it could be pretty useful in certain situations. Honestly it would just depend on how it can be used.
Is the distance limited, can you go to specific places, or what is it able to do?
"Teleportation magic is quite rare to see at all if I’m being honest," Celeste chimes in. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
You know so much but never want to actually tell me anything about this stuff... Then wonder why I don’t really ask you for anything.
"Maybe you’re right but I haven’t been given any reasons to give you the information either," Celeste replies with a casual tone.
Wriggle. Wriggle.
I don’t really know what you expect from me right now. I’ve already told you that I don’t intend to break the promise with Airi.
"Liam I think we still got quite a while until we reach the city," Amelia speaks up.
I leave behind my conversation with celeste for the time being.
"How does it look on the map?" I question.
She stops for a second and brings the map over to me to show. Looking at it I can see what she’s talking about since we aren’t really that far along this road yet.
I haven’t even seen the sign that says anything about the city of Amadon. We should see a sign at some point which will give us an idea about the distance.
"Yeah, we are still a bit away from it," I say with a calm tone.
"It has also been a lot quieter since we fought the zierel earlier which is strange," Amelia mentions with a bit of caution in her voice.
She’s right, it has been really quiet since it we dealt with the zierel from earlier. I would’ve expected to see at least a couple of the normal ones.
But none at all? That is definitely strange.
I take a few glances around us, hoping to catch sight of any red eyes that could be out there.
But after looking around for a few moments I don’t see a damn thing, just darkness with nothing to show us whatsoever. It could just be luck on our side for the time being.
So we continue to talk along the road while wondering about the city ahead.
Another hour of walking goes by...
Still no sign of any zierel, no city in sight yet, and the road is just empty. The amount of abandoned cars has even gone down with the closer we get to the city.
"Maybe the Fortified City has strong people who dealt with a lot of the zierel along the road here," Amelia says with a bit of optimism.
"It could be possible but I don’t know," I reply with uncertainty.
Why wouldn’t they completely wipe out the zierel along this road if that was the case? We wouldn’t have fun into the giant one from before if that was the case since they should have killed them all.
I don’t think they did anything on this road after setting up the proper defenses for the city.
My guess is that a lot of zierel stick to the actual cities since they have a higher chance of finding humans. They aren’t going to find much out here if they need food.
Most humans died early on if they were out here when it happened.
"Actually it wouldn’t make sense for them to do it," Amelia says with certainty.
"Why’s that?" I ask, now Intrigued.
"It would be too much of a risk for the people inside Amadon. They need the stronger people within the city or close to it," Amelia answers softly.
"Not a bad theory. I just don’t think they tried to clear the road in the first place since they only cared about the city," I say.
"So we’re almost thinking exactly the same? This also means they are probably not great human beings by any means," Amelia replies with a bit of disgust in her voice.
"Yeah, probably not," I say in agreement.
Shitty human beings would leave the road like this... To die out here.
