Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 69: Streets Of Amadon [2]
Regardless of how I feel about him, he is covering our backs. So it is time to keep pushing forward.
Walking along the street I can see quite a few different stores with the windows smashed in from when people started to panic; blood is splattered along some of the broken glass and skeletons from some of the people remain.
I can feel myself slowly getting used to seeing this sort of thing.
It isn’t a great thing to see in the slightest but we can’t change anything about it... those people are dead and won’t be coming back any time soon.
We can handle the zierel that did all of this in the first place, that’s something that we are able to handle.
I do feel bad for those people though.
The silence feels kind of suffocating as we head further into the city, but still we push forward.
"What is the deal with you and Zeno, Airi?" I ask with curiosity.
"I don’t really want to get into the full story right now but we had a falling out before this all started," Airi answers quietly.
"He seems like a pretty positive guy with a lot of energy, was he always like that?" I question while walking.
"Zeno just doesn’t have a lot of care for anything, that’s all," Airi answers with a bit of sadness in her voice.
Probably best not to ask anything else about him for the time being since something is getting to her. Maybe they used to be close or something... Back in their world or whatever?
World? Realm? I forget what it is, but I do know that I might get some answers from aether. That guy would definitely know a lot more about them than I do.
He was close with Airi from what I remember as well.
The next time I get the chance to talk to him, I’ll ask him all about Airi and Zeno since they are both acting strange. Everything felt fine when they entered the store but after that it was weird again.
Plus the murderous intent Airi gave off when she first got here towards him... That doesn’t just disappear.
"Light bearers are a unique species, I wouldn’t try to understand them," Celeste suggests.
I want to understand them anyway, they have a lot that can be taught to me if I am smart about it. Look at how far I’ve come with using a sword because of Airi.
That is something basic... Imagine what I can learn when it comes down to using actual power.
"That’s what you have the sword for. The light bearer who gave it to you is the guy to learn from," Celeste responds calmly.
You still don’t trust Airi, I remember you saying something awhile ago about not trusting them.
I don’t think you ever really gave me much of a reason not to trust them either.
"Light bearers have one purpose in life, eradicating Zierel. That is the one thing you have in common, but what happens when that is done?" Celeste asks with a serious tone.
Then they’ll probably go back to living in their own realm again. I don’t think there’s any reason for them to linger around here at that point.
Plus we aren’t the enemy to them... So I don’t believe they’ll turn against us, if that’s what you are getting at.
"Maybe not. I’m just saying it is best not to trust them regardless, just like you don’t seem to trust me," Celeste replies before fading away again.
Tap. Tap.
I look to my right to see Amelia tapping my arm.
"That looks like some sort of barricade ahead, doesn’t it?" Amelia asks for confirmation.
I try to focus on the structure ahead and after a few moments I can see it a bit more clearly. It definitely does look like a barricade that was put up by the police or something here.
"Yeah, that’s definitely a barricade," I respond with certainty.
"That means we are heading in the right direction," Airi speaks up with a carefree tone.
I just don’t understand why they would barricade off this area instead of the one with the giant goliath... That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
Unless this was to keep it away from the other side of the city. Maybe that could be the reasoning behind it, or to contain some of the other zierel.
I don’t really know.
"Are we going to go around it?" Amelia asks.
"No, we’ll climb over it," Airi answers without hesitation.
"Right. Why didn’t I just assume that?" Amelia says sarcastically.
"No need to be sarcastic Amelia; we can do it easily," Airi replies with a smile on her face.
I’m honestly kind of on Amelia’s side with this one since I don’t think I can just climb up a barricade. Light bearers might have some sort of trick up there sleeves but I definitely don’t.
Actually they can jump pretty high from what I saw during Zeno’s fight against the goliath earlier.
So she is assuming that we can jump as high as then when it comes to a wall like this. Then again, I didn’t think I’d ever move as fast as I do against anything.
The speed I learned how to use from Airi is also something that humans don’t typically have the ability to do.
"How are we going to climb over?" I ask while looking at the barricade.
"Use some of that power and push yourself up as you jump," Airi responds without any hesitation.
I watch as she runs towards the barricade and jumps up towards the top of it, without any problems she is already over on the other side.
After watching that, I look back towards Amelia.
"Do you think you can do that?" I ask curiously.
"I can try," Amelia answers. "What about you?"
"I don’t know how the hell I’ll do that," I respond while staring at the barricade.
So she is going to attempt it but I don’t even know how to do it myself. I haven’t done any crazy jumps... Other than off of a rooftop towards that goliath.
