Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 527: Sheva VS Benjamin Gledura! (II)
Meanwhile, outside of the venue... ππ£ππ²π°πππ§π π§ππ.πππΊ
"Come on, Sheva... This is your chance, please donβt choke it up..." Bagas mumbled rapidly, staring at the board on the screen with cold sweat on his forehead.
Medina just facepalmed when she listened to that through her earphones. Honestly, if only this were not a live broadcast, she would want to berate the boy on the spot, as it was unbecoming for a host to act that way. Irene, the traitor she was, though, just giggled silently, finding this situation to be amusing.
"Okay, Bagas, no need to send your desperate prayer like that, the situation hasnβt reached the point where Sheva is so close to death yet." In the end, she couldnβt bear with it anymore and voiced her dissatisfaction. "Also, where is your trust in your best friend? He has been showing from time to time that this is the situation where he would thrive the most, so where does the doubt come from?"
Bagas could just rub the back of his head sheepishly. This reaction came from his worry, as he himself didnβt really see Sheva preparing for the game today. His best friend was so nonchalant, sleeping quite early while also waking up a little bit later than usual. This made Bagas think that Sheva got cocky here, and while anything but a win would knock his ego down a little bit, as Shevaβs biggest supporter, that was definitely the last thing he wanted to see.
"Donβt worry, Bagas, just trust your friend. Even though it is not an easy position to navigate, it is Sheva that we are talking about. He has been pulling one miracle after another out of nowhere, so why couldnβt he do that this time?" Irene smiled, trying to reassure the boy.
Bagas nodded slightly, then took a deep breath to calm down his nerves. βYeah, I am being too worried here. This is not Shevaβs first rodeo, so he should be okay.β He muttered, trying to convince himself.
In reality, this was indeed not the position that Bagas should be worried about. Hell, the evaluation bar even showed +3.3 for Sheva, and this was not the number that could be overturned so easily. However, the fact that Sheva took quite a long time to make his move was indeed a little bit worrying. They couldnβt help but wonder, didnβt he see the attack there?
"No, if anything, Sheva takes his time slowly because he notices an opportunity here," Medina stated before Bagas could lead the viewers to negativity again. "This is a common thing to happen in the middle of the game. I am sure that right now, Sheva notices the blunder from his opponent, yet he still tries to calculate how to punish that mistake. Just wait patiently, and I can guarantee that you will be satisfied with his answer."
Well, Bagas couldnβt do anything but nod about that. He himself didnβt know where Medina got her confidence when it came to Sheva, but in the end, he couldnβt help but feel ashamed here.
βEven Sister Medina believes in him, who am I to doubt Sheva?β He slapped his own face inwardly. βNo, no, no, this is Sheva whom we are talking about. I am sure that he will be alright.β
Fortunately, Sheva didnβt disappoint, answering his hope with a precise attack to capitalize on the mistake. When Bagas saw that his best friend picked up the best move that the computer engine suggested, he couldnβt help but jump in excitement.
"Yes! Thatβs how you should do it, Shev! There is no doubt about it! Come on, donβt show any mercy! Kill him!" He shouted as if it were an action sport.
Medina just had the corner of her lips twitch as she was so speechless by Bagasβs shamelessness. However, for the sake of her sanity, the woman decided to ignore it, paying more attention to the board.
"Now that Sheva goes that way, it is clear that he will sacrifice his knight. If so, he has to continue pursuing the opponentβs king, because once Benjamin Gledura is able to stabilize the situation, it would be him who is on the winning track, what with him being up to 3 points material." She stated her worry.
"A valid concern, but I still think that it will be easy for Sheva to capitalize," Irene said. "Also, this position is quite easy to calculate compared to Shevaβs usual shenanigans, so I am sure that he will be able to come out as the winner."
The game continued again, with both players going at each otherβs throats violently. Being up a knight, Benjamin Gledura didnβt hesitate as he traded all of his pieces. However, he stopped before falling deeper, finally noticing for the first time what a grave mistake he made earlier.
βOh, finally realizing that you are entering the pit hole, huh?β Sheva couldnβt help but smirk when he saw the opponentβs solemn expression. βUnfortunately, you are too late to save this shit. For now, just accept your fate and resign, man!β
Yeah, even though at first glance, Sheva, who was down a three-point worth of material, seemed at a disadvantage, in reality, he was still winning. After all, the black king was still pinned by Shevaβs bishop, and soon enough, Benjamin Gledura had to exchange his rook to get rid of that bishop. And when that happened, Sheva would be up to one point of material with a rook and five pawns compared to the black with two pair bishops and only three pawns.
To make it worse, Sheva had a chain pawn on the sixth rank already, and if Benjamin Gledura didnβt sacrifice one of his bishops now, the man could only watch as Sheva got a new queen, and soon enough, it would be his king who fell to hell.
Suddenly, there were so many holes in his position, and the Hungarian GM rubbed his forehead in frustration as he thought of a way to get out of this situation. In the end, though, after thinking for more than fifteen minutes without any outcome, the man finally made the most logical choice here, which was also the one that hurt him the most.
He resigned, basically giving away the trophy to Sheva already.
