Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 541: Back Home & The Uninvited Guests
"You know what, I expected a lot of things the first day I was back here, but this..." Sheva sighed helplessly, watching a bunch of people gathering at his house while also eating the snacks that his mother prepared. "I have never thought that I would receive a bunch of shameless people on my first day like this!" He cried.
"Oh, pish-posh, Sheva! This is nothing!" Claudia snorted before putting her best smile on again as his mother delivered a tray full of traditional snacks she made herself. "Thank you, Aunty! But this should be enough for us!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"Oh, don’t be shy like that! If I knew that you would come today, I would’ve made more last night!" Sheva’s mother sighed regretfully, then turned to her son and sent him a playful glare. "This is your fault, you know?! If only you told me beforehand, this embarrassing situation would never have happened!"
"Hey, Mom! How could it be my fault when they are just barging in like this is their house?!" Sheva complained.
It was noon after Sheva came back from joining the welcome ceremony of the three teenagers he taught, and he found that so many of his acquaintances were here already. Anna, Claudia, and Laysa all seemed to have made an appointment beforehand, and that was without telling him or his mother first.
Not that Sheva minded, of course, but he expected to have a calm day before the storm was coming.
’Also, I just noticed this, but how in the hell is it that all my acquaintances in the chess community are female? I sure as hell am not going to build a harem!’ He cursed inwardly.
Well, not that he didn’t have any male friends there. Sheva still got in touch with Master Irfan and Taher a lot, and from the other countries, he also chatted daily with players like Dmitrij Kollar or Pragg, talking about the tournament they played in or sharing their training menu. It was just a coincidence that back home, a lot of the top players here were female.
"Anyway, is that the trophy you brought from Prague?" Laysa suddenly asked, pointing at the shelf where Sheva put all the trophies he had won already.
In total, there were three trophies and one medal hanging proudly on the wall, from the Olympiad, the Dubai Master Chess, the Tata Steel Challengers, and the Prague Challengers.
Those were not the only tournaments he won, of course, as he also managed to get first place in some of the low-level tournaments, like in Hanoi or Jakarta in the past. However, those tournaments didn’t really give a trophy, just a cheap certificate that showed he won first place or something like that.
"You really are amazing, Sheva..." Anna sighed in admiration. "We also have a shelf of trophies back home, but our level is not as high as yours. Well, I know that no one in this country has a more glamorous trophy shelf compared to you..."
Sheva’s face flushed red like a ripe tomato, as the boy himself could also feel the tip of his ears getting hot. At this point, he was so used to the praises and flatteries from the others, but it always hit different when the words came from Anna. It was as if she was more... Genuine?
’Or maybe I am just a simp here.’ Sheva laughed wryly.
"Tch! We have already expected something like this, right? Why would you still be amazed by the trophy, Big Sis?" Claudia asked, annoyedly.
It seemed that she had a score to settle with Sheva here, and honestly, he was waiting for the girl to bring it up. True enough, after this, she changed the topic instantly to the problem she had with him.
"What I want to ask, though, is why do you have to be so good at teaching people too?!" She whined childishly. "You don’t know how annoying it is for me to see Brother Nay, Duta, and that bint Devi showing off their trophy on their social media! I have been playing together with you for more than a year, and you haven’t given me any privileges at all!"
"Ia! Language!" Anna shouted in panic, while Laysa herself burst into laughter.
Sheva himself choked for a moment, not expecting the colorful language. However, he could only sigh helplessly, remembering that Claudia also said the same when she described Devi in the past.
It was also understandable that she got annoyed here. After all, Claudia came from the same generation as those three teenagers, and she was always proud of the fact that she had the highest rating among them all. While this hadn’t changed at all, now, those three teens had an international trophy for each one of them, something that Claudia herself could only stare at in envy.
"Anyway, that is a good idea!" Sheva suddenly widened his eyes in realization.
"What? What good idea?" Laysa asked, intrigued.
"You know, since Claudia wants to do it so bad, how about we learn together until our next tournament?" Sheva asked, feeling like this was a brilliant idea. "I mean, you guys are still waiting for your exam, right? Let’s use the time to polish our skills and learn from each other! Who knows, maybe some of us will have a breakthrough later!"
This...
Both Laysa and Anna stared at each other, and Sheva knew based on their expression that they were hooked. As for Claudia... Oh, well, the girl was bouncing already, probably imagining herself triumphing in the future and maybe even bragging to her peers about her possible achievement.
Sheva himself was also excited. This idea came from the title that he just earned yesterday, and if it worked just as the description said, their level would be elevated further in the future.
’They won’t go abroad until at least the end of May, but before that, they would still play in the Asian Zone 3.3 for the World Cup, right? What perfect timing! I really want to see how far they could go, and who would be thriving the furthest and snatch one spot for the World Cup next September!’
