Roadmap to the Boundless Sky-Chapter 222Book 3, : Break
After bringing the suit of armor into the weapons display room, Chen Chuan put it in a corner of the room. When he turned on the lights, every piece of the armor sparkled.
Chen Chuan then retrieved the repaired spear and put it in the raised hand. Once he closed the adjustable fingers around the spear, he took a few steps back to observe the armor and nodded in satisfaction.
That’s more like it.
He then took out the two ceremonial swords he received and the short sword he seized from Fei Tong. He wiped them down with oil before setting them in the places he had already decided for them beforehand.
He also placed the Stellar Handgun he got as a gift on the gun stand.
Even though he didn’t manage to get a lot of spoils this time, he was sure that as time went by, his collection would expand.
Chen Chuan admired his collection for a while before leaving his house and going back to the Arcane Palace. When he drove into the underground parking lot, he gave a nod to Hongfu. As usual, she was standing on the eaves.
After parking his car, he went back to his room to take a shower. Then, he practiced his breathing technique for a bit before going to bed.
The next morning, he woke up, washed up, made himself a warm drink, and went to the window to look at the scenery.
The winter sun was bright and dazzling. It lit up his room and cast a long shadow behind Chen Chuan.
He stood there for a while before tapping his Realm Pass and logging onto the university platform.
Since he had taken part in missions related to the World Ring Defense System, aside from getting special medicine, he had also received channels to communicate with those in higher positions of power.
Now, he could finally apply for a tutor who could teach him how to train as a Third Limit martial artist.
With a few clicks, he quickly went to the relevant page and clicked apply.
This time, he picked yes when he was asked whether he had participated in the World Ring Defense System before submitting his application.
A moment later, Hongfu’s voice appeared in his ears. “Chen Chuan, we’ve received your guidance application. Since we need to verify your application’s eligibility, it may take us several hours to get back to you. Please wait patiently.”
This probably meant that the merged space hadn’t updated his information yet, but all Chen Chuan could do was wait. He checked his watch.
It was the last third of December, so he should get ready to go back to Yangzhi City.
After some consideration, Chen Chuan decided to send his family a telegram to tell them that he was going to go back in a few days.
Then, he contacted Qi Gao to see how he was doing.
Qi Gao said that with Border Fusion’s help, his daughter had successfully transferred to another school. As for him, he had been hiding in a house Wu Bei got for him over the past few days. Everything seemed to have returned to normal for now, since no one came to cause him trouble.
However, in order to avoid trouble, he had been staying cooped up and was running out of money. So, he intended to start taking up missions again after the New Year.
Wu Bei then chipped in, “I noticed that no one has been asking for your whereabouts lately, Lao Qi. I think that they’ve either given up or found the owner of those ritual materials.”
Chen Chuan hummed at that. “That’s good if it’s true. Still, you can’t be careless. I won’t be in Central City during the New Year. If you need money, you can use the public funds. There’s no reason to return it in a hurry either. You can do it when you have extra money in the future.”
Qi Gao, of course, knew that it was best for him to be careful instead of taking risks for the sake of a little bit of money. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. Both of you have helped me a lot, but I can’t do anything to help either of you. The only thing I can do is to not cause you trouble as much as I can.”
If the Plague Gang wasn’t going to come looking for Qi Gao anymore, Chen Chuan wasn’t going to look into this case any further. After all, it had nothing to do with them. But if they did seek Qi Gao out, then Chen Chuan wasn’t going to show them any mercy.
Once their conversation ended, he contacted Border Fusion. Yan Yi answered, so he told her that he was going back to Yangzhi City for the New Year before asking her about the company.
She told him that nothing strange had happened to Meng Shu, and the company’s operations were back on track. They were going to transfer some money to him as a bonus at the end of the year.
Chen Chuan then contacted Gao Ming and Lu Fang to tell them that he was going to go back to Yangzhi City soon. Gao Ming replied that he was not going to be able to leave for the New Year, since the law firm was swamped with work and his house was almost always deserted, anyway.
As for Lu Fang, he said that he wanted to go back to Yangzhi City, so Chen Chuan offered him a ride back. It was a good idea, so he thanked Chen Chuan, and they set a date to go back.
Once Chen Chuan notified all his friends and family, he began getting ready to go home.
While packing up, he logged onto the World Ring Defense System’s platform. After going to the merged space, he could access plenty of new functions, and the biggest site on the platform was the trading site.
The most commonly traded item was the special medicine. After all, some Third Limit martial artists had no desire to get stronger due to their own limited abilities. Some even realized that they weren’t talented enough and gave up entirely. Such people treated special medicine as a source of income instead.
Special medicine was really popular. As long as it wasn’t sold at a crazy price, it was usually snagged the moment it appeared.
Unique items of the merged space along with information were the second most popular trading item.
The merged space was huge and had various new species and things they had never seen before. Government organizations, companies, and even intelligence brokers often came to buy those things.
It was then that Chen Chuan realized that aside from the martial artists affiliated with the government and companies, the platform was also filled with civilian martial artists. These people did not want to be tied down to any organization and worked as mercenaries. Most of them were hired by companies, but they also sometimes got missions from governments all across the world.
Only a handful of them were Third Limit martial artists. Most of them were First and Second Limit martial artists.
Chen Chuan didn’t know where these people came from and only learned later from Advisor Pei that while most of the soldiers and martial artists in the merged space were trained by the military, some of them came from the residential areas and cities built at the rear of the merged space.
These places were originally the sentry posts and exploration sites built by the world governments and corporations, but after seventy years, they grew larger and turned into residential areas and cities.
The residents there became the main source of the mercenaries in the merged space. Since they lived at the epicenter of the fight between the two worlds, they had the drive and will to join the World Ring Defense System.
However, since most of them were born in the merged space, they had practically no contact with the peripheral and Central Cities. Chen Chuan could already see the multitude of problems in that.
But that was none of his concern. He went to the search bar. Aside from looking for information, his other goal was to form his team, so he wanted to see whether he could find anyone suitable.
After keying in his ID, many people’s information appeared on his screen.
He skimmed through them and found quite a number of people who appeared to be suitable, but he would reserve judgment until he actually met them. Once he went through the entire list, he found one to fit his criteria perfectly, so he sent a request to connect.
Yet even after waiting for quite some time, the person did not reply. It seemed like he wasn’t around.
Just then, Chen Chuan heard Hongfu’s voice.
“Chen Chuan, your application has passed review. Please wait patiently. The university will send you your tutor’s information in a month’s time.”
It would be after the New Year, but that was fine. Even if the university assigned a tutor now, they wouldn’t come to teach him at the end of the year. This way, his trip back to Yangzhi City wouldn’t get postponed.
After receiving the news, Chen Chuan was in a much better mood.
He exited the platform and spent half a day packing up. When he was done, he went outside to buy some presents from Treasure Fruits Market, just like he always did.
On his way back, he drove to Tan Zhi’s place.
Tan Zhi was renting a house that looked similar to Mr. Zheng’s in terms of its layout. After contacting him, the gates opened, and Chen Chuan drove inside.
“You can park wherever you see an empty space. I’m in my training room, so come on in.”
Once Chen Chuan parked his car, he went to the training room, removed his shoes, and walked inside.
Tan Zhi was standing in front of a weapons rack and wiping off his sweat with a towel. Standing in front of him was a well-built female instructor. She wore a martial arts uniform and gave off a fierce air.
Her gaze froze for a moment when she saw Chen Chuan.
Tan Zhi introduced them. “This is Ms. Wei. I hired her to teach me. Ms. Wei, this is Chen Chuan, my junior.”
Chen Chuan detected a trace of panic in Ms. Wei’s eyes when she saw him, but she quickly hid it.
He observed her for a bit before nodding and greeting her, “Ms. Wei.”
Ms. Wei smiled. “Good to see you, Chen Chuan. Tan Zhi mentioned you before, and I’ve seen the video of your fight against Wei Wusheng. You’re good.”
“Thank you,” Chen Chuan replied politely.
Ms. Wei then turned to Tan Zhi. “Since your friend is here, I won’t bother you two.”
She gave them a nod before heading out.
“Bye, Ms. Wei!” Tan Zhi hurriedly called out.
Then, he said to Chen Chuan, “It wasn’t easy hiring Ms. Wei. She’s the security advisor of the city council. I heard that she’s ‘close’ with a politician there. You know what I’m saying, right? If it weren’t for the fact that my father sponsored her in the past and she owes us one, she wouldn’t have come to teach me.”
Tan Zhi went to the fridge, grabbed two cans of soda, handed one of them to Chen Chuan, and opened his own before chugging the entire thing down. Once he was down, he exhaled long and hard.
“The dance and theater hall nearby came up with a new dance. I heard that many new students joined. Are you interested in watching it? We can call Pan Xiaode and Qi Huixin to see it together.”
“Nah. I’m going back to Yangzhi City soon, so I came to visit you today. I’m also here to get Dawncall back,” Chen Chuan said.
Finding the situation regrettable, Tan Zhi said, “Next time, then. By the way, didn’t you say that you bought some services from the Secret Python Cult? I heard that you need a referrer to purchase their services. Could you be mine?”
