Roadmap to the Boundless Sky-Chapter 93Book 3, : Officers On Duty
Book 3, Chapter 93: Officers On Duty
At 6 a.m. on the seventh of June, Chen Chuan received a message from the Resolution Department. He then put on the Resolution Department’s uniform, got ready, and left the Arcane Palace.
At 6:30 a.m., an armored patrol car from the Resolution Department arrived and stopped not far from him. The door opened, and the person inside beckoned him in.
Once Chen Chuan got in, he looked around. Aside from the driver, the front passenger seat was occupied by a logistics officer wearing the support-staff uniform. Both of them gave him a nod, but said nothing.
In the spacious rear area was a teenager of around nineteen years old. He, too, wore the Resolution Department’s uniform. The boy had a sharp gaze. After casting Chen Chuan a glance, he said, “Sun Rao.”
“Chen Chuan.” Chen Chuan gave him a nod.
Once Chen Chuan settled down and the door swung shut, Sun Rao said, “I know you.”
There was a pause.
“I’m also one of the students the Resolution Department is sponsoring. I joined the department half a year earlier than you did.”
“Then, well met, Senior Sun,” Chen Chuan said.
Sun Rao observed him a little before saying, “You’re different from what I expected. I thought that you’d be a prideful person.”
“Why would you think so?” Chen Chuan asked.
“Because I’ve met plenty of outstanding people, and they all have a bit of a temper problem.” When he said this, the car started moving, and Sun Rao looked outside.
“You’ve never been on duty before, have you?”
“You’re right about that,” Chen Chuan answered.
“You’re a good martial artist, but things will be different on duty. Many problems can’t be resolved through brute force alone. The department asked me to be the leader, so prioritize my decisions during the operation. If you have any objections, you can voice them after we’re done. While we’re on duty, though, I hope that you will work with me.”
“I will,” Chen Chuan promised with a nod, because he agreed with what Sun Rao said wholeheartedly. The worst thing to happen in a team on duty was a lack of coordination among its members and everyone just doing their own thing. Since they were a team, a leader was necessary. He wasn’t familiar with this sort of thing, so he should listen to the orders from someone with more experience.
When Sun Rao saw how on board Chen Chuan was with his plan, he said, “You’re much easier to work with than An Cheng.”
“Who?”
“The other sponsored student. I can tell that your words reflect what you’re truly thinking, while if An Cheng had said yes in your place, there would have been no telling what he would do,” Sun Rao said.
Got it. An Cheng is the egotistical sort, Chen Chuan noted down.
“Our task today is related to Wei Wusheng. There are two martial artists here...” As Sun Rao spoke, he connected with Chen Chuan and sent him two sets of information.
Chen Chuan took a look at the two people who showed up on his Realm Pass. One of them was a bulky, short-haired, lively-looking man in his twenties. The other was an equally bulky woman. Her arm muscles were so tight that they looked like they were about to burst.
They appeared quite familiar, which was because Chen Chuan had seen them before. They were among the spectators on Rhinoceros’ Horn. Chen Chuan had even personally knocked them out.
“We’ll be guarding Glowing Dew District today. These two have been on Rhinoceros’ Horn, but they’ve been refusing our protection and monitoring.
“This is Tong Daguang, one of the Swordfish Gang’s leaders. As for Zhe Rong, she’s an instructor at Growing Strength, a martial arts school. Both of them are under protection 24/7. It might be because of this that Wei Wusheng hasn’t approached them until now.”
Chen Chuan thought about it but didn’t think that this was the case.
He had read Wei Wusheng’s file. Aside from the martial arts school that he had chosen as his first target before anyone knew that he would be going after them and weren’t ready, one of his subsequent victims was a company’s security captain. Despite being equipped head to toe in armor and being with his team members, he was still killed.
This meant that Wei Wusheng didn’t choose his victims based on how protected they were.
Sun Rao continued, “Most of the other martial artists reside in Deep End District, Martial Order District, and Oceanway District. That’s why the department has tightened the security in those three places. Most of the members are stationed there.
“What we need to do is to keep an eye on these two. If we run into Wei Wusheng, we have to think of a way to stop him and notify the department right away. Do you have a gun?”
“I brought it along,” Chen Chuan replied.
“You brought it? Show me,” Sun Rao said.
Chen Chuan took Lightning Shock out.
“Lightning Shock from Dragon’s Roar?” Sun Rao exclaimed in surprise.
Since Sun Rao’s eyes were practically glued to the gun, Chen Chuan turned the muzzle to himself before handing the gun over. Sun Rao took it gingerly and observed it as if he was admiring a piece of art. Then, he saw the serial number at the butt.
“Each Lightning Shock has a serial number. I heard that there are only three thousand of them in the country. This is 352, so it’s one of the earliest productions. Where did you get it?”
“A Martial Valor University alumni gave it to me,” Chen Chuan said.
“That alumni is no ordinary person. Not only is Lightning Shock powerful, but it also has high collectible value. If I were you, I’d leave it at home and not take it out,” Sun Rao pointed out.
“Guns are to be used. When the alumni gave it to me, he wanted me to use it against my enemies,” Chen Chuan argued back gently.
With a great look of longing, Sun Rao sighed and reluctantly returned the gun to Chen Chuan. Then, unable to help himself, he said, “Be careful when you use it, and after using it, maintain it properly.”
“I will,” Chen Chuan promised as he put the gun away.
After some thinking, Sun Rao dragged out a rifle case from under his seat and opened it to take out a rifle. “This is Grotesque Viper’s Venomous Tongue. I only managed to find one after looking around for a long while. It can fire four-inch bullets. Since Wei Wusheng practices body hardening, they might not kill him, but they will certainly blast a hole through him.”
Chen Chuan took a look. He had to admit that guns were definitely the best weapon to defeat Wei Wusheng. Even if they couldn’t kill him, they could weaken him, which was pretty good.
But while Wei Wusheng charged ahead recklessly in the past and didn’t even bother to avoid bullets, there was no telling whether he would do the same now.
Sun Rao pointed the rifle outside before putting it down. “If he shows up, I’m going to show him hell.”
Then, he turned to Chen Chuan and said, “Don’t worry. I’m a good shot. If he does show up, I’ll take medicine and be able to keep up with his speed.”
Chen Chuan nodded at that. “If he appears, I’ll create a chance for you to shoot him.”
“If someone else said that they wanted to hold Wei Wusheng down, I’d just think that they were joking with me, but I’m willing to trust you. I heard that you’re the one who’s most likely among us to reach the Third Limit.
“You have no idea how hard An Cheng has been trying to surpass you after learning about this, but talent is what determines whether you can reach the Third Limit. He can’t surpass you just because he wants to. The sooner he accepts reality, the easier it will be for him.”
As they continued talking, half an hour passed, and the armored patrol car reached Glowing Dew District. A large ferris wheel appeared before them.
“Ferris Wheel is supporting the Swordfish Gang behind the shadows, so the department needs to keep an eye on them, but the company is cooperating with us for the time being to bring stability to the district. If necessary, they will even help us to a certain extent. Let’s go and patrol a few important places,” Sun Rao said.
The armored patrol car drove down Glowing Dew District’s main road. They didn’t need to do anything extra aside from letting people know that the Resolution Department was watching the place at all times. That alone was enough.
If nothing out of the ordinary happened, of course.
When they passed by the entrance of a street, Sun Rao pointed at one of the buildings. “That’s Zhe Rong’s martial arts school. She usually stays there the entire day.”
Chen Chuan took a look and saw the words Growing Strength on the building’s screen. Exhales and shouts came from the projection. Plenty of security guards patrolled the area, and there were also a lot of passersby walking up and down the street. This area could be considered downtown and was not far from Wu Ruo’s secret house.
“Let’s patrol this area first,” Sun Rao said. “In the afternoon, we’ll check out Tong Daguang’s base. If nothing looks out of place, that will be all for the day. Then, we’ll check how things are going on back at the department. If everything goes smoothly, someone will take over our shift in three days. If things aren’t going smoothly back in the department, then we might have to come here every day for some time.”
After going around the area once, the armored patrol car slowed down and stopped by the road, since everyone inside had decided to take a breather. The driver and the logistics officer went to the drinks shop to get themselves a drink.
Chen Chuan stayed in the car. From his spot, he could observe the martial arts school’s entrance.
Business at the martial arts school should be pretty good, since there were a lot of cars parked outside. People went in and out all the time. After watching it for a moment, he suddenly heard a lot of noise from the entrance, and a tall woman walked out. Chen Chuan immediately recognized her as Zhe Rong. Behind her was a large group of students dressed in martial arts uniforms.
Zhe Rong barked a few orders, and all the students got into the cars. Moments later, the cars left the parking lot.
Sun Rao cursed. “I just knew they wouldn’t stay put. We’re following them!”
The driver and the logistics officer hopped into the car and followed behind the motorcade.
“Where are they going?” Chen Chuan asked.
“Since she teaches martial arts, she has to put on a mask of fearlessness, even if Wei Wusheng is after her life. That’s why she hasn’t stopped organizing exchanges with other martial arts schools,” Sun Rao said before sneering. “She’s probably thinking that Wei Wusheng wouldn’t dare to attack her in places with a lot of people. Perhaps she’s even patting herself on the back for being smart, but the more people there are, the easier it would be for Wei Wusheng to kill her.” 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Chen Chuan agreed with that, especially since the current Wei Wusheng was acting more discreetly than before. Since there were going to be plenty of people watching an exchange between martial arts schools, Zhe Rong was just creating a chance for Wei Wusheng to take her down.
While driving after the motorcade, both Chen Chuan and Sun Rao received a message from the department. It kept jumping around to get their attention.
