Her head was muddled—no idea how long she’d been asleep.

Voices murmured around her, unclear and far-off, yet something about them stirred discomfort from deep inside...

Lin Wanyi couldn’t tell if she was dreaming or awake. Only after being shaken a couple of times did her consciousness finally return.

She groggily pried open her eyelids—each one felt like it weighed a thousand jin. As her vision cleared, the fine canopy of a carved bed came into view.

And then—right above her—appeared a pale, cold, flawless face, eyes sharp and piercing like a noblewoman of the main household, staring down with such oppressive authority it made her instinctively flinch.

?!

Miss Linghu?!

Why does she look so terrifying...

Crap. Everything’s been exposed.

Lin Wanyi immediately panicked, convinced that her Wu Sect background had been discovered. Her mind snapped fully awake as her gaze darted around—Was she in prison?

Thankfully, everything looked normal. Nearby, she even spotted a “Gentleman of Integrity” plaque—that meant this was Xie Jinhuan’s room. He himself was seated nearby.

But something was wrong.

One glance told her—Xie Jinhuan’s eyes were wide like Meiqiu’s, his face frozen in horror, helpless and speechless.

Wait, what?

Did I say something in my sleep?!

Completely bewildered, Lin Wanyi tried to sit up but hesitated. Her eyes flicked about, trying to make sense of the situation.

Linghu Qingmo leaned in. Seeing that Lin Wanyi was awake, she gently asked,

“Wanyi, are you feeling unwell?”

That tone—it had the vibe of an elder sister looking after her timid sibling. Lin Wanyi sat up cautiously.

“Uh... I’m okay. How long was I asleep?”

“About two hours.”

Linghu Qingmo helped her lean against the bed’s headboard and then asked plainly,

“Wanyi, you like Xie Jinhuan too, don’t you?”

...?

Lin Wanyi blinked, stunned. After a beat, she stammered,

“Miss Linghu, surely you’re joking...?”

“So, you don’t like him?”

“Uhh...”

Lin Wanyi was overwhelmed. Linghu Qingmo gave her no room to sidestep or blush. Glancing over at Xie Jinhuan, she said in disbelief,

“Xie Jinhuan, did you drug her or something?”

Xie Jinhuan had already realized something was off with Mo Mo. He raised his hands in surrender,

“Just that Dominant Aura Overflow Pill—yeah, it really overflowed...”

Lin Wanyi understood immediately, fished out the antidote from her robe, and handed it to Linghu Qingmo.

“Miss Linghu, you took the wrong pill...”

Linghu Qingmo accepted the antidote but didn’t take it. Instead, she said sincerely,

“This pill does replenish qi, but it has nothing to do with what I’m saying now. My head is perfectly clear. Everything I’ve said comes from the bottom of my heart. Even if I take the antidote and change my tune—what I said now still counts!”

Then she turned to Xie Jinhuan.

“Including what I said to you.”

“Uhh...”

Lin Wanyi thought if Linghu Qingmo's really conscious, she's going to want to bury herself alive later. She pressed,

“You’re not thinking straight. Just take the antidote first...”

“I’ll finish what I have to say, then I’ll take it.”

Linghu Qingmo sat upright, calm and deliberate.

“This isn’t about jealousy. Let’s just speak plainly. Just answer honestly—do you have feelings for Xie Jinhuan?”

“...”

Lin Wanyi wasn’t the bold, dramatic type. She couldn’t match that kind of energy. But if she said no, the man would be as good as claimed. So she braced herself and mumbled,

“Yes, yes—I do. Just take the antidote already...”

But Linghu Qingmo didn’t get the firm answer she’d wanted. She looked directly at Lin Wanyi,

“Well, since we both like him, I’ll make my position clear. As the saying goes, ‘A country has laws, a house has rules.’ From now on, when Xie Jinhuan is handling official business, don’t drag him off to your place to sleep. That interferes with demon hunting.

“And another thing—your care’s a bit... hit-or-miss. If he wants to visit you during downtime, fine. But in serious situations, I must be the one at his side.”

???

Lin Wanyi didn’t need more than a few sentences to get the message: this was the main wife laying down house rules!

The hell?

She might be reserved, but this was too much. Anger flared as she sat up straighter.

“Miss Linghu, even if you took the wrong pill, mind your words. We’re not family—you don’t get to lay down rules for me. If anyone does, it’s Xie Jinhuan.”

Linghu Qingmo blinked. That made sense. She turned to Xie Jinhuan.

“Then you give her the rules.”

“...”

There was no way he’d survive picking sides here. He rubbed his temples and said,

“I’m kinda injured from fighting just now. How about we talk tomorrow?”

Linghu Qingmo nodded and pulled Lin Wanyi by the arm.

“Fair enough. I’ll walk her to the next room. Then I’ll come back to care for you.”

??

Lin Wanyi was being evicted. She stiffened.

“I’m the doctor. Leaving now would be absurd. I’ll tend to him. You go rest!”

Linghu Qingmo sat back down.

“You know how he is. Given a chance, he’ll sneak out to fight demons again. Like last time at the academy—I didn’t even bring that up. And here you are again. What if he bolts while you’re asleep?”

Lin Wanyi twitched at the rebuke and muttered,

“He insisted on going...”

“And you let him?! If I were there, would he have gotten out the door?”

“...I didn’t mean to let him, but I... fell asleep.”

“You know you fell asleep?!”

Linghu Qingmo almost poked her forehead but held back out of decorum.

“And if you fall asleep again?”

“...”

Lin Wanyi couldn’t argue. Her eyes flicked to Xie Jinhuan, silently screaming This is your fault—say something!

He quickly cut in:

“That last time was my bad. This time I’ll stay put...”

“You’ll do anything for demon hunting. I’m not falling for it again.”

After giving him a brief scolding, Linghu Qingmo turned back to Lin Wanyi.

“Go rest. I’ll watch him. When he’s recovered, then you can be with him.”

Lin Wanyi’s record of accidental naps was long and distinguished. She couldn’t refute Linghu Qingmo’s righteous stance. But if she left now, she might as well give up forever...

She took a few deep breaths and shot back,

“Fine, we’ll care for him together. You’re not even a doctor—how can you treat injuries? Look at these bandages—looks like they were chewed on by a dog...”

?

Linghu Qingmo’s eyes narrowed. She grabbed the supplies and handed them over.

“Fine. You do it.”

“Hmph...”

Lin Wanyi snorted softly and leaned over to treat Xie Jinhuan.

He watched in relief, grateful they hadn’t started brawling.

Then Lin Wanyi glared at him with a silent message—You’re laughing while I get scolded like some decoration?!

Smack!

Before she could escalate, Linghu Qingmo slapped her on the butt.

“Why are you glaring at him? What did he do to you?”

Lin Wanyi froze, stunned, and stared at Linghu Qingmo in disbelief.

You dare hit me?!

I glare at my man—what’s it to you?!

Even Sisu didn’t lecture me like this! Now you think I’m just some dumb maid who won’t fight back?!

Fuming, she rolled up her sleeves—but Xie Jinhuan quickly held her back. She hissed,

“You get out! I’m tending to him now. What, you want to watch a live sex scene or something?!”

Linghu Qingmo blinked.

“He’s still a virgin. What are you tending to—cuddling him to sleep? What if you stifle him?”

“Ah?” Xie Jinhuan was speechless.

Lin Wanyi was dumbfounded too—but she was mad enough to throw caution to the wind. She leaned over and kissed his cheek.

“I came all this way to save him. He held me all the way back. I’m so heartbroken I could die. I want to give myself to him—what business is it of yours?”

Linghu Qingmo was serious.

“He’s a righteous man. He’d never agree before marriage.”

“Uh...” Xie Jinhuan flinched.

Lin Wanyi scoffed.

“So if he doesn’t ask, women just can’t give? He fights outside, comes home, and still has to make the first move? You trying to be some kind of Empress Dowager?”

“I’ve tended to more noblewomen than you’ve even met. If you don’t know how this works, stop meddling.”

Linghu Qingmo paused—her words actually made sense. But leaving now would feel like a loss. So she retorted:

“Is sleeping with him all you can do?”

Lin Wanyi, unbothered, nodded.

“Yup~ A man like Jinhuan should never sleep alone. Want to join us? If you’ve got the guts... we can all sleep together. I’ll teach you how to take care of him, so you don’t end up hurting him with your block-of-ice self. Right, Jinhuan~?”

Dear heavens...

Xie Jinhuan was flattered but didn’t dare speak.

Linghu Qingmo saw her smug attitude and was tempted to flip the table.

You think I haven’t read steamy novels? You think I can’t hold my own?!

But she was a proper Daoist lady. She couldn’t just jump into bed like that...

Instead, she nodded.

“Alright then, little minx. Let’s see if you’ve got the guts today.”

Lin Wanyi’s brows arched, but since she’d driven her off, she didn't press further—just gave her a cold stare.

→_→

Linghu Qingmo rose. Meeting that glare, her eyes darkened. Then, without warning, she leaned down and kissed Xie Jinhuan’s lips.

“Let her care for you. If she doesn’t behave—tell me.”

“You—!”

Lin Wanyi was stunned.

Then she launched like a crazed housecat, lunging to tackle the smug little Daoist:

“You damn wench—!”

Xie Jinhuan hurriedly grabbed her.

“Whoa whoa—don’t be rash!”

“Let me go! She hits me and I can’t hit her?! I’ll kill her!”

“Don’t don’t—!”

Linghu Qingmo, perfectly satisfied, kissed Jinhuan several more times and even squeezed his chest. Her look clearly said "Mmm, tasty." Then she turned and left, dodging the embroidered shoe that came flying after her. On the way out, she popped the antidote into her mouth.

Lin Wanyi was seeing red. Still clinging to Jinhuan, she hurled pillows, and even the Spring Romance and Golden Orchid Chronicles hidden beneath them:

“Get back here, damn priestess! We’re not done—!”

“Don’t be mad, don’t be mad...”

Xie Jinhuan tried to calm her while secretly collecting the banned books before they got shredded in the crossfire.

But just as the chaos started to settle, the door burst open—

Crash—!

Lin Wanyi jumped in fright, her rage momentarily extinguished as she ducked behind Jinhuan.

“You dare come back?! I swear—”

She turned, ready to throw something again—

Linghu Qingmo stood in the doorway, face flushed red, lips trembling with rage as she stared straight at Xie Jinhuan.

“You lech—what the hell did you make me take?!”

Seeing her return to normal, Jinhuan felt like a mountain had been lifted from his chest.

“I was wrong, I was wrong—I didn’t know what that pill would do...”

Linghu Qingmo had come to her senses as soon as she stepped outside. Remembering all the things she’d just said and done, she nearly launched into the heavens in shame.

Ice-cold beauty with a firm Dao heart? Gone.

Every word true—but why say them out loud?!

What if she’d scared Wanyi to death?!

“You didn’t know—and you still gave it to me?!”

Jinhuan tried to placate her.

“It does replenish qi... but yeah, a tiny side effect. Like drunk talk! Don’t take it seriously. My bad, my bad...”

A “tiny” side effect?!

Linghu Qingmo wanted to throttle him. Then she caught sight of Lin Wanyi peeking at her and nearly cried from frustration.

She bit her tongue, then turned toward her:

“Miss Lin, I apologize. I wasn’t myself just now—I took the wrong pill...”

Not yourself? You were clearer than anyone!

But she had the ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) pill as an excuse. And if Wanyi kept pushing now, she’d just look petty.

For the sake of Xie Jinhuan, she inhaled deeply and said with grace:

“It’s fine. I didn’t take it to heart.”

Linghu Qingmo sensed that Lin Wanyi didn’t fully buy it, but there was no taking it back now. She forced a sheepish smile, then stomped on Jinhuan’s foot and fled the scene.

Xie Jinhuan gasped, holding his foot. After watching her flee, he sat beside Wanyi, still awkward:

“Uh... what was in that pill? That was... intense.”

“Something Suzi concocted—damn thing’s cursed...”

Lin Wanyi was still livid. But seeing Jinhuan all scared and docile, she didn’t feel like badmouthing Linghu Qingmo anymore.

“I can’t sleep here. Take me home. We can train together—better than staying here and having random walk-ins.”

Jinhuan was terrified the two might clash again, so he didn’t argue. He grabbed his weapons and helped her up.

He’d thought about saying goodbye to Mo Mo first, but she’d already locked herself in the Princess’s quarters.

She hadn’t even stopped next door.
