Rogue Villain-Chapter 410: Revelation
Yillister’s merciless action completely snuffed out the last remaining hope in Karandiel’s heart that it was all just one misunderstanding that had spiraled out of control. Yillster wasn’t as benevolent as his scriptures made him seem.
It would be a disservice to all to let him live any longer.
Karandiel raised her sword to block the attack. She reinforced it and herself with her golden light.
<Tch. I never liked how you could do that without my aid.>
"I know. But you should have. I wielded my strength for you, my...—I was your strongest soldier, Yillister."
<That’s exactly why I had to get rid of you, my dear Karandiel.>
"...What?"
Yillister smiled coldly as he slammed down his halberd, forcing Karandiel to a knee as she defended.
She stared at Karandiel through her arms, not understanding what he meant.
Yillister pressed down his halberd as he continued.
<Do you know what a Usurper is? No, you wouldn’t. We have made sure no one knows. We even erased the part of history containing the last one. Unfortunately, you appeared.>
"What are you talking about?"
Karandiel glared at Yillister as she pushed back and tried to stand up.
<They are people born with the powers of the god they’re meant to replace. That’s what a Usurper is. That’s what you are, Karandiel.>
Yillster managed to force Karandiel down to both knees.
<Fortunately, you didn’t awaken that ability in your life. Instead, you chose to worship me, believing your power was a gift from me. But if I let you die, another you would be born before long. I realized that the only way to prevent my Usurper from coming for me would be to control them.>
Yillister sighed and looked at Karandiel with a disappointed expression.
<I tried to suppress your nature. But when you began to doubt me, I knew it hadn’t worked.>
Karandiel’s expression was blank. She wasn’t even looking at Yillister, instead facing the ground. She realized that not only had her belief in Yillister been misplaced, but her life, both as a human and an angel, had been a lie. Yillister hadn’t kept her close because he trusted her or relied on her strength.
The fucking bastard had kept her close because he was scared of her and her power to steal his place.
<Still, you were too valuable. But I really shouldn’t have given you a chance to see for yourself that humans don’t deserve to be saved.>
Yillister smiled.
<That was a mistake. It’s about time to correct it.>
Karandiel raised her head and glared at Yillister.
Although she hadn’t expected this revelation as she confronted Yillister, it didn’t change anything. The only thing it did was solidify her Convictions. Those Convictions happened to be the primary source of her strength and growth. The fact that her power manifested as golden light wasn’t relevant. It was just a beacon pointing at the filth she needed to clean.
Karandiel stood up and shoved Yillister’s halberd to the side.
Even if only to spite Yillister, it was time to make his fears come true.
Karandiel didn’t stop at shoving the halberd aside. She strode forward and used the sword imbued with Heavenly Iron to attack Yillister. However, his armor and weapon also had noticeable amounts of Heavenly Iron. Her sword only left a scratch.
Fortunately, Yillister’s vanity left him vulnerable in a critical location. His head was completely exposed.
However, Karandiel only managed to scratch his cheek with the tip of his sword before he escaped out of reach.
<You...!>
Yillister touched his cheek and looked at his fingers stained with golden blood in disbelief. He pointed at Karandiel in outrage.
<Attack her! Kill her!>
Without hesitation, Yillister ordered his angels to attack Karandiel.
Karandiel was merciless toward her former companions. She recognized them. They recognized her. But they couldn’t disobey their god for someone like Karandiel. They were loyal to the point of fanaticism. If anything, many of them saw this as a chance to get rid of the angel who had been the closest to Yillister.
Still, Karandiel had treasured her time with the other angels, and she still treasured her memories.
Each kill only served to strengthen her Conviction. A god who sent his angels to the death in a battle he wasn’t confident in wasn’t a god who should be allowed to exist.
<Useless! All of you are useless!>
Yillister flew into a rage as he saw the angels fall helplessly at Karandiel’s hands. In his rage, he attacked and killed the angels on his own. If their loyalty wasn’t enough to get rid of a threat to his life, their loyalty wasn’t enough to stay alive in his presence.
"Scum."
The angels hesitated when they saw Karandiel kill them like powerless chickens. And when Yillister started clearing them out from the back, they made a path for Karandiel.
If they were going to die either way, they might as well let their god and his most cherished angel reunite one last time. It was their gift. By thinking like that, they weren’t disloyal. They were displaying their loyalty to the limit.
Karandiel flew through the air like golden lighting as she pierced Yillister’s head with her sword. She cut it off and stabbed his body through his neck.
Yillister tried to save his life by transforming into a streak of yellow light and escape. But Karandiel reached out with a hand and grabbed the light before it could get anywhere.
She crumpled it into a ball of light.
"The angels who served you were useless because they couldn’t kill me. What does that make you?"
The ball couldn’t answer. And without giving it a chance, Karandiel crushed it.
"Die."
If the angels deserved to die for being useless, Yillister, as their god, shouldn’t be any different.
The crushed ball turned into fragments of light that seeped into Karandiel. She frowned in disgust. She wanted nothing to do with Yillister’s power. But there was nothing she could do about it. It was the power of a Usurper.
However, the fragments stopped moving.
"I can prevent that if you want."
