Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 508 - 501: Going Back Home (6)
"Hah!" Dazhuang’s thunderous shout shook the heavens and the earth.
Hu Xiaodong, who was selecting a bow, saw that the latter leaped into the air, and both scythes chopped towards the beast’s head.
Two seconds later, everything returned to calmness.
Wei Dazhuang didn’t move, and neither did the beast.
Due to the limitations of his view, Hu Xiaodong couldn’t determine what happened in front of him. With some concern, he shouted, "Dazhuang! Wei Dazhuang! How are you?!"
"Not dead yet!"
The beast’s arm lay on Wei Dazhuang’s chest, its sharp bone blades tearing open his jacket, revealing two clearly visible blade marks on the cut-resistant attire beneath.
No doubt, if not for the cut-resistant clothing, Wei Dazhuang might have faced the fate of having his chest opened up.
He kicked away the beast whose head had been cleaved by the scythe, spat a mouthful of saliva casually, and without pause, continued to lock on to the next target. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Seeing Wei Dazhuang unharmed, Hu Xiaodong let out a long sigh of relief. He dared not delay and quickly advanced with Xu Renjie, looking for suitable opportunities to take down the enemies one by one.
Ten minutes, ten minutes later, there wasn’t a single zombie left standing beside the city management vehicle, all fallen under the knives and arrows of the survivors.
Taking advantage of Hu Xiaodong as he cleansed the battlefield, Tang Xiaoquan stooped to examine the dead beast.
One has to admit, nature’s craftsmanship truly sculpted these charred beasts into lethal weapons.
Tang Xiaoquan dared not think further; over time, how many more terrifying mutant beasts might appear?
How long can I keep on enduring?!
"Alright! Everyone get on the car! Let’s leave here as quickly as possible!"
Accompanied by Xu Renjie’s low shout, the survivors got into the vehicle one after another, setting off on their return journey.
Wang Qiang leaned leisurely against the backseat, enjoying the breeze quite comfortably.
To be honest, he somewhat missed life at the factory, worry-free with food and drink, even though he couldn’t quite stand the big guy He Lei; he was satisfied with everything else. At least he really enjoyed that chicken soup.
However, he wasn’t one to enjoy thinking hard. Since Old Xu and the others felt the factory wasn’t fit for living, he was too lazy to think much about it.
After all, their current life was reasonably reliable, and the most important thing was that as long as he could be with this group of companions, anywhere in the vast world could be home.
Thinking about this, Wang Qiang stretched lazily, shut his eyes, and took a nap.
Compared to Wang Qiang’s leisure, Tang Xiaoquan’s mind was much more burdened, always pondering the issue of his parents.
He wanted very much to go to the shelter that Niu Li mentioned, but the current situation was clearly not yet the time.
Forty minutes later, the survivors returned to the spot where fireworks had been set off earlier, still crowded with zombies. Since the beast horde occupied half the road, Old Xu had to detour to avoid confrontation.
No one could know when these beasts might leave; Xu Renjie only hoped they wouldn’t head back to the factory, lest it causes future "cooperative transactions" trouble.
Once they distanced from the ignition point, Old Xu finally was able to freely slam on the accelerator, as there weren’t many beasts around, making it unnecessary to worry about the danger of car sounds.
No traffic police on duty, no traffic lights to supervise, and no sudden jaywalking pedestrians; the speed unknowingly increased step by step.
This might be one of the scarce conveniences in this post-apocalyptic world!
As the vehicle barely passed the fireworks shop previously scavenged by survivors, Tang Xiaoquan sat up straight and said to Old Xu, "Old Xu, should we take some fireworks from that shop back with us?"
Tang Xiaoquan proposed this for two reasons:
First, the effectiveness of fireworks in attracting zombies had been proven, so bringing these fireworks might come in handy in the future.
Secondly, he also hoped that Old Xu could use his military training to develop some offensive weapons with these fireworks.
Xu Renjie was certainly unsure about this, but considering the scarcity of zombies here, he didn’t hesitate, decisively stepped on the brake, and instructed everyone, "Alright, Xiao Hu, you stay on guard, the rest follow me inside to move the goods!"
Upon receiving the order, the survivors immediately got to work. Before long, every piece of fireworks left in the store was moved into the vehicle.
Afterward, the survivors found a small shop nearby, and according to Xu Renjie’s rationale of being there anyway, they decided to go all out.
After all, although some supplies were acquired during this outing, compared to the upcoming winter, those items weren’t enough to fill the gaps between their teeth.
So, Old Xu planned to take advantage of this rare opportunity to plunder significantly, and the small shop in front of him became his main target.
It was a common rural town shop, not very large but the products inside were plenty, and importantly, this shop had a warehouse.
Upon entering, Xu Renjie immediately instructed everyone to split into two groups: one to clear out the front shelves and the other to enter the warehouse to transport supplies.
Honestly, Old Xu didn’t have much hope for this small shop, but life is like that; the less you hope, the more surprises it gives you.
At least when the survivors opened the warehouse doors and saw the neatly stacked boxes of food inside, each person’s heart was filled with one thought: "We’re rich!"
Indeed, the survivors were rich. Although the supplies here couldn’t compare to Liu Fugui’s factory and weren’t even a fraction of it, to the current survivors, they were priceless treasures.
Box after box of supplies was loaded into the vehicle, the excited survivors worked extremely fast.
Furthermore, they discovered two restaurants next to the small shop.
Undoubtedly, for these two restaurants, the survivors had nothing much to say; naturally, they swept through them as well.
Wow, with this round of plunder, the survivors really hit the "jackpot."
The once-empty trunk was now packed to the brim.
For safety during the drive, Old Xu took out the ropes he had brought with him earlier.
After slightly adjusting the placement of the supplies, the survivors securely tied everything above the truck bed.
Starting the city management vehicle again, but this time, Old Xu no longer drove wildly.
First, it was for safety, since the suburban road conditions weren’t great. Xu Renjie vividly remembered the violent bumping of the vehicle on the way here. He didn’t want to risk losing supplies for the sake of speed.
Secondly, the vehicle was indeed overloaded with supplies, which in normal circumstances would definitely have been seized by traffic police for overloading.
Of course, this was somewhat exaggerated, but undeniably, through this resupply, the survivors successfully completed their mission on this trip. (To be continued.
