Chapter 426: Chapter 427: I’m Not a Puppet!

In the DC world, countless forces thrived beneath the ocean.

Beyond Atlantis, there were Xebel, the Trench, the Saltwater Kingdom, the Fisherman Kingdom, the Lost Kingdom, and even one kingdom so mysterious its very name remained unknown.

Each ruled over a portion of the seven seas. Among them, Atlantis stood as the strongest.

The races of the ocean had mastered technologies and abilities far beyond the surface world.

In the tale of Aquaman, the current King of Atlantis, Orm, was ambitious—determined to unite the Seven Seas and wage war against the humans on land.

This alone proved that if the seven kingdoms truly united, they could surpass humanity’s power.

If Fenric gained control over them, the system’s task evaluation would undoubtedly be extraordinary.

"!!"

When Arthur heard Fenric’s purpose, he realized instantly—this man wanted to make him a puppet.

But what puzzled him was why. With Fenric’s power and the trident in his hand, he could easily claim the throne himself. Why push Arthur forward instead?

Arthur wasn’t the type to keep his doubts to himself. He asked directly:

"I don’t get it. Why not take the throne yourself? With your strength and the trident, Orm wouldn’t stand a chance. You don’t need me."

"Oh, Arthur..." Fenric chuckled lazily. "Being king is far too much trouble. Managing politics every day? Not for me."

He leaned back with a grin. "Besides, I’m more optimistic about you. I believe you can govern Atlantis well. As for me—I’ll just enjoy life as a leisurely Sea God."

Arthur’s face darkened. Now he understood Fenric’s scheme perfectly.

This bastard wanted him to shoulder all the responsibility while Fenric pulled the strings from the shadows.

"Damn it... I won’t be your puppet!" Arthur snapped.

Fenric waved his hand dismissively. "How is that being a puppet? Relax. I won’t interfere with your rule. You’ll have full independence. I’m only asking for cooperation. In less than a month, I’ll be gone from this world. After that, you can rule however you like."

Arthur frowned. "Gone? To the sky?" His expression screamed disbelief.

Fenric only shrugged. "Believe it or don’t. Point is, until then, you’ll work with me."

"And if I refuse?" Arthur pressed.

Fenric raised his fist, smiling. "Then I’ll beat you until you agree."

Arthur’s mouth twitched, and a fresh throb from his bruises reminded him all too clearly of Fenric’s earlier blows. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Fenric’s tone softened. "Arthur, it’s not a bad thing for you to reclaim the throne. Think about it. If your brother learns your mother is still alive—what do you think he’ll do?"

Arthur stiffened.

In his joy at their reunion, he hadn’t considered that at all.

Fenric leaned closer. "Your brother’s ambition isn’t small. He’s always wanted to rule the Seven Seas. Arthur, do you really want me to support him instead? I’m sure Orm would be very eager to cooperate with me."

The truth was, Fenric could have chosen Orm. But he knew Orm was too extreme, too arrogant to accept control.

What Fenric needed was someone more... compliant.

That was why he’d chosen Arthur.

Arthur fell silent.

He could ignore his own fate, but he couldn’t ignore the safety of his mother. If Orm learned she was alive, there was no telling how he might act. Even if he didn’t kill her outright, he would never allow the former queen to live peacefully with a human.

At that moment, Atlanna stepped forward.

"Arthur, I also believe you should reclaim the throne."

Arthur blinked. "Mother?"

Her support shocked him. Did this mean Orm... wasn’t truly her son?

Atlanna shook her head gently, as if reading his thoughts.

"Child, I know what you’re thinking. Orm is my son as well. I don’t wish to see you two fight. But under his father’s influence, Orm has become extreme. If Atlantis remains in his hands, it will not end well. You, Arthur—you are broad-minded. With you as king, Atlantis can move toward a better future."

Fenric nodded inwardly. A wise woman indeed.

Arthur’s resolve finally wavered.

"...Fine. I’ll do it."

Atlanna’s face softened with relief. She smiled at her son before turning her gaze firmly to Fenric.

"Your Majesty Poseidon, I ask one thing—please promise me you won’t harm Orm’s life."

Fenric chuckled and inclined his head. "Madam, you’ve made the right choice. Your eldest son will inherit the throne, and the brothers will learn to live in harmony. As for your request—I can promise it, so long as my goal is achieved."

And with that, the matter was settled.

Meanwhile, deep beneath the sea in a palace of the Xebel Kingdom, Mera stood before a middle-aged man.

Her eyes burned with excitement. "Everything I’ve said is true!"

The man was not Orm, but King Nereus—her father.

Mera, as the princess of the Xebel Kingdom, had reported everything to him without delay. After all, she had never truly liked Orm, her so-called fiancé. Their engagement was nothing but a political arrangement, lacking any foundation of affection. Orm’s extremism and arrogance made him the furthest thing from her ideal husband.

King Nereus frowned deeply, weighing his daughter’s words.

Mera had told him everything—about the stolen Mother Box, the alien Steppenwolf, and most importantly, the appearance of a man wielding the trident.

But what truly captured the king’s attention wasn’t the alien threat. It was the so-called Sea God.

"You’re telling me someone appeared with a trident... and claimed to be the Sea God?"

"Yes, Father," Mera said firmly. "Though his true identity is uncertain, his power was undeniable. He controlled the sea as easily as breathing. And the trident he held—there’s no mistake. It was exactly as the legends describe."

Nereus’s expression grew grave. "What else did he say?"

"He told me to inform Orm... that he would come to him."

The king’s face darkened, sinking into thought.

Mera asked nervously, "Father... should we warn Orm?"

"No," Nereus said suddenly.

Instead, his eyes sharpened. "Mera, do you know where this man is now?"

"I don’t," Mera admitted. "But... I believe he’s with Arthur. He mentioned there was something Arthur needed to do."

"Arthur?" Nereus raised a brow.

"He’s the eldest son of Queen Atlanna and a human."
