Chapter 162: Innocent

I finished my coffee just as we arrived in front of an all-glass building. It wasn’t as tall as Vittoria Global, but it was a good bit wider.

In front of the building was a sign that read "Prisma Pharmaceuticals" in bold red font.

"Welcome to my company," said Lucas with a smile. "Come, I’ll give you a little tour inside."

I followed him in, immediately noticing the modern and brightly decorated interior. Unlike Christian’s company, the majority of the people here wore white lab coats.

Noticing my gaze, Lucas smiled and explained, "Outside of marketing and HR, most of our workers here work in production or research and development. It’s standard for them to wear lab coats, though when they’re in the lab, most of them put on more protective gear.

I nodded with interest. I’ve never really been in a medical facility outside of the hospital before, so seeing all of these professionals in lab coats was an interesting sight.

The moment we passed by the front desk, I noticed the beautiful secretaries staring at Lucas with infatuated looks.

I guess anywhere you go, there will always be some secretaries in love with their CEO’s.

Lucas ignored them and kept walking towards the elevators that were located in a small nook behind the front desk. The biggest difference between this area and Christian’s was that the security was much tighter here.

In addition to needing to present ID badges, there was a small security checkpoint that had metal detectors.

"Since we work in a health-related field, we need tighter security," Lucas explained as if reading my mind.

He walked over to the security guard and handed his badge. "She’s with me."

The security guard looked at me with interest, scanning me over a few times before nodding his head. I walked through the metal detectors, following Lucas’s lead.

"Why are there metal detectors? Is it to check for hidden weapons?" I asked curiously as soon as the elevator doors closed.

Lucas shook his head. "They look like metal detectors, but they actually scan for any hidden medication. There’s been an unfortunate incident in the past where an employee snuck some of our more restricted medication out and sold it on the streets.

It happened a long time ago, overseas. But it’s something I take very seriously, so the security had to get tightened up a lot. Outside of security and me, you’re the only other person who now knows they’re not simple metal detectors."

I made a motion pretending to zip my lips and turn the key. "Your secret is safe with me!" I said with a smile.

He nodded, "Of course. I trust you more than I trust myself."

The sentence was short and simple, but it made me widen my eyes slightly.

Does he really trust me so much?

The elevator doors opened, displaying a long hallway with large glass walls on either side, allowing you to see clearly into the laboratories.

I immediately glanced through the glass walls, looking at all of the technical equipment in awe. Dozens of scientists were busy working, mixing chemicals and looking under microscopes.

"These are one of our main laboratories here. Some of the most dangerous, yet life-saving drugs are developed here," Lucas said with a small tinge of pride.

I took another look inside, fascinated by how futuristic and technical everything looked. Lucas then led me farther down the hall until we reached a door at the end.

"This is my office," he said, opening the doors.

It was large, but slightly cluttered. Lab equipment, paperwork, books, and multiple computers were scattered throughout the office.

"Forgive me for the mess. It’s been a long week, and I’m very particular about who is allowed inside my office, so it only gets organized about once a week," he said apologetically.

I quickly shook my head, "No, not at all. It looks like the office of a busy working professional. I can clearly see how dedicated you are you your job."

It was true, everywhere I looked, it seemed like there were hints of something important at work. I walked over and took a seat on the white sofa while Lucas went to sit behind his desk.

"This will only take a few minutes. Feel free to make yourself at home," he said before turning his attention to the computer screen. As he typed, I looked around the room more thoroughly, noticing the beautiful paintings all along the walls.

They were all paintings that depicted different landscapes. By the art style, I could tell that they were all painted by the same artist. Each one was breathtaking, making it feel like I was inside the painting as I looked at it.

It reminds me of the famous L.L. Lewis paintings...

As soon as I was reminded of L.L. Lewis, my mother’s words came to mind.

Didn’t my mother say that I would be apprenticing under him?

A small smile crept up on my face. There was no way I would ever be an apprentice to someone so mysterious and legendary in the art community. I glanced over at Lucas, who was busy typing something up on the computer.

I’ll have to ask him later how he managed to use the L.L. Lewis name to convince my mother.

Not even ten minutes passed when Lucas stood up and smiled at me. "Thank you for waiting patiently. I just had to type up a report on something, but I’m finished now."

"You typed up an entire report that quickly?" I asked, surprised. I always considered myself a fast typist, but an entire report in less than ten minutes was incredible.

Lucas blushed slightly, causing his cheeks to flush pink. "It’s nothing special..."

His embarrassed look was so adorable, I couldn’t help but blush. Lucas walked over to my side and reached out his hand to help me up from the sofa. "Come, let’s head out. We can spend the rest of the day painting."

I accepted his hand and stood up, smiling. I was looking forward to impressing Lucas with my painting ability, thinking that maybe he would get a few pointers from me.

As we walked out of the pharmaceutical company, I couldn’t help but notice all of the looks people were giving us. Some of them looked with surprise, others with jealousy, but Lucas ignored them all, only focusing on leading me forward.

I shook my head.

He’s so innocent.
