Seeking Truth with a Sword-Chapter 637 - 577 Telekinesis
Ryan and two others glided down among the unmanned vehicles. Gazing at the torrent of steel blocking Li Ang’s path ahead, they silently thought, Well done!
Less than three kilometers ahead lay the Japanese Congress and the Imperial Palace. If Li Ang actually managed to get close, breach their defenses, or even destroy them, it wouldn’t just be Japan that suffered. The United States, as its suzerain state, would also lose face tremendously.
In the shop windows on both sides of the street, televisions were broadcasting news programs, clearly displaying the scenes of Li Ang breaking through Tokyo City and destroying armed helicopters.
The incident had escalated too far, with too many eyewitnesses. In the internet age, even the United States couldn’t block or delete the sheer volume of eyewitness videos being uploaded from countless different angles. This was the first time the public had witnessed the existence of Superpower Users, and media outlets all over the world were rebroadcasting the footage.
Li Ang coldly swept a glance at the military formations before him and the three Superpower Users behind.
The military forces up ahead had already assembled, while more troops from the Tokyo periphery continued to converge on this location. If he delayed any longer, the situation would become increasingly unfavorable for him.
He had to break through the blockade.
Li Ang turned his gaze to the shops lining the street, estimating the distance. The greatest advantage Superpower Users held over modern armies lay in their mobility and stealth. He could perhaps rush into the cluster of buildings, using his chains to pierce through walls and break out of the encirclement.
Tanks and armored vehicles were too slow; he would easily leave them behind. Helicopters and fighter jets, on the other hand, would be obstructed by the high-rise buildings. They would be hesitant to fire upon important locations like the Japanese National Congress Building due to the risk of extensive collateral damage.
"Don’t think you can escape!"
Ryan dashed forward, his speed increasing with every step. With each footfall, another piece of armor materialized on his body, rapidly forming a complete Warlord Armor. Flames blazed fiercely from his hands, accompanied by thick black smoke and the wailing, skeletal phantoms of screaming skulls. A long-handled scythe, over two meters in length, had now appeared in his grasp.
THUD!
Ryan’s right foot slammed onto the ground, using the force to leap into the air, twisting his body in mid-flight. The Fiery Fire Scythe in his hand traced a crescent trajectory, charged with kinetic and potential energy, as it slashed towards Li Ang.
Li Ang made no attempt to parry the blow. Instead, chains erupted from his body in all directions, embedding themselves in the concrete road, nearby vehicles, and the walls of the towering buildings. Each chain served as a fulcrum. He contracted the chains and nimbly sidestepped, easily evading Ryan’s slash.
CRACK!
The ground where the scythe struck first spiderwebbed with cracks. Then, a crimson glow emanated from within the cracks before the area violently exploded. Flames erupted three stories high, obscuring the view. With undiminished momentum, the explosion spread over ten meters, sending nearby vehicles flying.
Before the inferno subsided, Ryan’s blurred figure burst through the flames, his scythe, now devoid of fire, slashing horizontally in silence.
Li Ang had no intention of giving his opponent an opening. As the chains in his left hand retracted, allowing him to swiftly dodge the blade, the chains in his right hand shot out, stabbing towards Ryan.
SWOOSH!
A cloud of grey dust rushed in from the street to the left. It was a jet stream composed of tiny metal fragments, launched by Gunpowder, the young, blond-haired Superpower User.
Gunpowder stood atop a bus. His hands were clasped, index fingers extended and thumbs raised, forming a gun gesture. As the metal jet streaked between Li Ang and Ryan, he silently mouthed, "BANG!"
BOOM!
Each metal fragment within the jet detonated, generating force far exceeding that of high explosives. The Elemental Material chains, which were hurtling towards Ryan, were deflected by the explosion, missing his scalp by a mere hairsbreadth.
Ryan, covered by his teammate, seized the opportunity to dash forward and unleash his third strike. The scythe descended vertically, aimed to cleave Li Ang—and the vehicle behind him—in two with a single blow.
The retraction speed of his chains couldn’t match Ryan’s rapid advance, and the chains he had previously thrust out could not be recalled in time. Li Ang made a split-second decision. Standing atop a yellow school bus, he instantly discarded the ends of his cumbersome chains, reforging the remaining links into a longsword, its edge upturned to meet the incoming scythe.
CLANG—
Upon impact, the sturdy roof of the school bus instantly caved in. Pulled by his chains, Li Ang avoided falling into the bus and instead retreated swiftly. Simultaneously, he manipulated his chains to snatch several dozen steel construction pipes from a small truck at the roadside, launching them like a volley of arrows towards Gunpowder, who was positioned on the street to his left. Concealed among them was a clump of mud-like Elemental Material.
Gunpowder’s expression shifted drastically. Forming a gun gesture with his hands, he "fired" repeatedly into the air. The steel pipes exploded one after another, but the mass of Elemental Material deftly weaved and darted between them, evading the blasts.
Just as the Elemental Material was about to make contact with Gunpowder, Moon Woman swooped down, grabbing his shoulder. Both their figures became momentarily intangible, allowing them to narrowly evade the substance.
"Phew... Thanks," Gunpowder said to Moon Woman, wiping cold sweat from his forehead gratefully.
She nodded calmly and gently tossed Gunpowder onto the roof of a nearby three-story building. This allowed him to continue using his superpower to provide cover for Ryan. Meanwhile, she herself resumed her dive towards the chaotic center of the battlefield, where explosions continued to erupt.
"Official, I can’t see anything anymore," the helicopter pilot asked over the communication channel. "Should we open fire?"
"Hold on a little longer!"
