Seeking Truth with a Sword-Chapter 640 - 579 Alliance
"Regardless of the problem, you think a simple bow will solve everything?"
Li Ang chuckled with a hint of irony. "If I hadn’t gained this new power, perhaps I might have agreed—too bad."
He released invisible Telekinesis, his Spiritual Sense sweeping around the building like a searchlight, and said calmly, "Everyone, please come out."
RUSTLE, RUSTLE—
More than thirty figures emerged slowly from bushes, behind trees, and rooftops.
The helicopter’s searchlight beams illuminated their backs, casting their faces in shadow.
The searchlight was dazzling, and Li Ang squinted, observing these figures.
There were masked male high school students in uniforms;
a bartender in a crisp suit and bowtie;
a construction worker in a safety helmet and orange safety vest;
a Martial Artist in a karate uniform with a black belt;
company office workers, Ninjas, photographers, traffic police, doctors, Self-Defense Force soldiers;
...
This diverse group of individuals, like a motley crew, clearly shared one identity—Superpower Users.
Li Ang cocked his head and asked, "Is this everyone you could gather?"
"We’ve gathered a small fraction."
The man in the suit in front of the National Congress cautiously replied, "Of all the Superpower Users, only about 30% have abilities suited for combat. And of them, half are currently in the East Sea Region, confronting your country’s Superpower Users."
"So, for my sake, you’ve mobilized your entire nation’s extraordinary military force?"
Li Ang raised an eyebrow. "This is quite the grand reception."
"After all, Your Excellency’s powers awakened just a few hours ago, and you’ve already made it here. It’s only fitting to treat the situation with importance."
The suited man first gave a bitter smile, then continued firmly, "Your Excellency is indeed powerful, but we also hold the conviction that we will prevail. We have the advantage in numbers, superpower intensity, and coordination. Are you sure you want to fight?"
"Do you even need to ask?"
Li Ang smiled slightly, stepped down from the armored vehicle, and casually waved his hand. The cannon barrel slowly lowered, aiming at the National Congress.
BOOM!
Almost instantly as flames burst from the barrel, the Superpower Users moved.
The high school student half-knelt on the ground, clapping his hands forcefully on the floor, raising a ten-meter-high pale blue barrier that blocked the dense barrage of machine-gun fire.
The traffic policeman swung his arm, and the air in front of him rippled like water. Several grenade shots that should have demolished the pillars of the National Congress abruptly changed direction, hurtling back towards Li Ang.
Space distortion abilities? Quite fitting for a traffic policeman.
Li Ang’s expression didn’t change. He casually threw four Mind Needles, detonating the grenades in advance.
BOOM—
The flash from the explosion briefly obscured his vision, and the Martial Artist, construction worker, and Self-Defense Force soldier charged through the flames from three directions, heading straight for Li Ang.
The Self-Defense Force soldier, with a ferocious expression, bellowed, "You killed my brother!" while accumulating flames around his arm and sending a palm strike.
"I don’t even know who you are."
Li Ang, expressionless, guessed blindly that the assailant was a relative of a Self-Defense Force soldier he had killed before. He casually summoned chains, which penetrated the soldier’s collarbone, exiting from behind his shoulder and wrapping around his neck twice.
He then slammed the soldier’s face against the concrete ground and ground it forcefully, much like grating a potato on a kitchen grater.
The traffic police hurriedly used their Space Transfer superpower to rescue the soldier from his chains, but the latter’s face was still abrasively scraped off, nose and all.
In the center of the battlefield, a construction worker suddenly halted and smashed his fist into the ground.
The concrete, influenced by his punch, softened and flowed like quicksand, then surged up, ensnaring Li Ang’s arms and legs, rendering each finger immobile.
"I’ve got him under control!"
The construction worker, maintaining his punching pose, yelled, "Attack now!"
Without needing his reminder, everyone sprang into action.
The shurikens thrown by the Ninja rapidly expanded in the air, spinning swiftly and lifting a gale-force wind that uprooted the lawn and its flowers completely.
A girl in an archery uniform fired arrows wreathed in a cold mist. They froze the nearby trees merely by skimming low across them, their branches and leaves ceasing to sway in the wind.
The karate master, eyes wide with fury, shifted his right foot outward and stepped forward, cracking the ground underfoot. As his shoulder guided his body’s rotation, his left foot, instep taut, shot out in a front kick. A thin layer of steam lingered around his skin.
An enhancement-type superpower, huh? The impact from that kick would probably feel like being hit head-on by a large truck.
Li Ang thought nonchalantly, smiling at the construction worker who had turned the concrete to sand.
These people had made one mistake.
The hand gesture used during the release of his Telekinesis was merely a personal habit.
He didn’t need any movements at all to unleash his Telekinesis.
SNAP!
The construction worker’s eyeballs were squeezed by Telekinesis and burst instantly.
He screamed in agony, releasing his arms and falling backward.
The residual force of Telekinesis, like a tidal wave, rushed past. The Gale Shurikens suddenly decelerated, sticking in the ground beside Li Ang’s feet.
The archer’s icy arrows were mercilessly swatted away, falling into the Moat surrounding the National Congress and the Imperial Palace, instantly freezing a large section of the water’s surface.
As for the karate master, this muscle-bound man, who needed leverage to enhance his advantage, was naturally countered by Telekinesis Power.
Just by compressing and displacing the soil under his feet, his mighty front kick lost its accuracy.
The Martial Artist, keenly aware of Li Ang’s intent, tried to change his move. His whole body’s muscles and bones trembled as he contorted his body in an almost impossible manner, moving his center of gravity forward and turning his front kick into a downward Splitting Fist strike.
WHOOSH!
More than ten Mind Needles, launched later but arriving sooner, spun at high speed. Their tips forcibly tore through the Martial Artist’s steel-tough skin, exploding into a dense mist of blood on his body.
The Martial Artist’s vision darkened instantly. The last thing he saw was the traffic policeman using the Space Transfer superpower to rescue him. A doctor ran over, pressing his palm on his profusely bleeding chest.
————
Not knowing how much time had passed, the Martial Artist slowly regained consciousness. He frantically looked around, only to find he wasn’t at the National Congress but lying beside a high wall from the shogunate period.
From a nearby statue of Kusunoki Masashige, it was clear this was near the Imperial Palace.
"You’re awake?"
The Doctor, standing by the Moat and looking into the distance, heard the noise and turned to look at him, his face horribly pale.
"How long was I out?"
The Martial Artist glanced at his barely healed wounds and struggled to stand up, leaning on the wall.
"Ten minutes." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
The Doctor said softly, "The battle over there is still ongoing. Superpower Users from South Korea and the United States have also been called over."
As he said, beyond the Moat over a hundred meters wide, separating the Imperial Palace from the modern urban area, thunderous explosions continued.
The Martial Artist joined the Doctor and saw that the National Theater, Japan Supreme Court, Japan National Congress Library, National Congress Hall, National Congress, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Police Headquarters, and many other buildings—a vast expanse of them—had collapsed.
Ruins and rubble lay everywhere. Smoke lingered, dust drifted, and flames soared into the sky.
Helicopters hovered high above, their searchlights sweeping back and forth, chasing after those rapidly moving figures.
From time to time, rockets and tactical missiles streaked through the sky, only to be detonated in mid-air by something unseen before they could hit the ground, transforming into brilliant fireworks.
