Seven Sins System-Chapter 439: Fragile
Chapter 439: Fragile
Seven Sins System Chapter 439. Fragile
My gaze at her turned serious.
"Were they also looking for their master?" I asked.
"No," she stated firmly. "They said they demanded me to give them a new master."
A frown creased her face, and the seriousness in her tone was unmistakable.
"Give?" I repeated, stressing the word.
It didn’t make sense. Why would beings from another realm seek a new master from a goddess?
She nodded, her expression troubled. "So they’re like your worshippers or something?" I ventured, still trying to piece together the puzzle.
"I don’t think so," she said, shaking her head. "They also attacked me like they attacked you." Her voice was steady, but I could hear the underlying confusion and concern.
That was definitely weird and confusing.
I thought, trying to wrap my mind around the situation. If I hadn’t just experienced what had happened with those demons, I might have assumed she was lying or mistaken. But the evidence was irrefutable.
"Okay, that’s definitely weird and confusing," I muttered, echoing my thoughts.
Puriel’s eyes met mine, and I could see the same mix of bewilderment and determination that I felt. "Whoever or whatever is behind this has found a way to bypass the traditional methods of summoning. They’re using a new form of energy or magic that we don’t fully understand yet."
"But why ’give’?" I asked, my confusion deepening.
The word seemed out of place, loaded with implications I couldn’t quite grasp.
Puriel shrugged, her eyes reflecting the same uncertainty.
"I don’t know," she admitted. "It’s as perplexing to me as it is to you."
"Ugh!" I grunted, scratching my hair in frustration, though there was no itch.
The situation was getting more complicated.
"I guess I have to extend my stay in this realm," I grumbled.
Puriel’s face brightened at my words, a subtle transformation that didn’t escape my notice.
I smirked, "Happy?" ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
She didn’t answer, but she turned her head to the other side, avoiding my gaze. I could see a hint of embarrassment in her posture, and a delicate blush crept up her cheeks.
Despite the gravity of the situation, her reaction brought a slight warmth to my chest.
On the bright side, at least my extended stay in the mortal realm wouldn’t be as bad as I had initially expected.
’She surely has fallen for me, huh?’ I thought, a mix of amusement and curiosity tugging at my mind.
It was still a wonder how we had managed to transform our relationship from enemies to something far more complex.
It was nothing short of a miracle, and I knew I should use this newfound bond to glean more information from her—or perhaps even leverage it for other advantages.
But the problem was, even though she seemed to have feelings for me, it wasn’t the typical lust-driven attraction that made her want to hug me or get intimate.
I didn’t quite understand it. To a demon like me, love and desire were intertwined, inseparable. Yet, Puriel’s feelings appeared to be different. It reminded me of a mortal romance movie I once watched out of boredom.
The protagonist fell in love, and all he wanted was to be with his girlfriend and protect her. He didn’t even think about sex or intimacy.
The whole thing seemed absurd to me at the time. I laughed and complained throughout the movie, convinced that such notions were incompatible with my demon logic.
But now, standing here with Puriel, I started to grasp the concept, even if just a little. Loving without the immediate desire to possess—it was alien, but strangely fascinating.
Seeing it unfold before me was like watching that ridiculous movie again, but this time with a new perspective. Maybe there was something more to it, something I had overlooked in my narrow understanding of relationships.
Puriel glanced at me, her eyes still carrying the remnants of her blush. There was an unspoken connection. It was delicate, fragile, but undeniably real.
"Let’s go back now," I said, my voice steady.
The shadow wolves that had once been my tentacles returned to my back, morphing into their original form before disappearing completely. My demonic features melted away, and I resumed my human guise.
With a wave of my hand, I opened a portal, the shimmering gateway to our destination forming in the air before us. I was about to step through when her voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Did you find my necklace when you searched the formation?" she asked, her tone laced with a hint of hope.
I turned to her, giving her a flat stare. My shoulders slumped in exasperation.
"Seriously?" I said, my annoyance clear. How could she still be thinking about that necklace when something so much more significant was happening?
Puriel met my gaze, a flicker of defiance in her eyes. "Just curious," she said, her tone defensive and slightly annoyed.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. The necklace, while sentimental, seemed trivial in the face of the looming threat. But her persistence made me pause.
"I didn’t find it," I admitted, my voice softening slightly.
Her shoulders sagged a bit, and she nodded, accepting my words with a resigned sigh.
We stood there for a while. The portal shimmered beside us.
"Let’s go," I repeated more gently, gesturing toward the portal.
She nodded again and stepped forward, her movements hesitant.
Once we passed through the portal, the familiar surroundings of the academy’s infirmary greeted us.
I saw my double sitting behind the desk, calmly reading through some documents. His eyes met mine, and without a word, he stood up. I extended my hand, and as if on cue, he transformed. The figure that had been my double dissolved into a dark, writhing tentacle, slithering before merging back into my body.
Puriel’s double looked up. With a soft glow, she dispersed into bits of light, her essence returning to Puriel.
