Chapter 41 - 41: Orochi’s Reaction

Orochi sat back, hands clasped in disatisfaction as he watched the grand gates of Onigashima open to his procession of guards and attendants. King the Allstar had taken komurasaki, his favourite geisha, from the flower capital and had even said he couldn't do anything about it.

So here he was to pressure king into releasing her by appealing directly to Kaidou. He had come prepared, gold and influence weighing on his mind as he prepared to present his request to Kaidou.

Komurasaki, the jewel of the Flower Capital, had enraptured him for far too long, and it was high time she became a part of his life in a more official capacity. Though Komurasaki was under King's close watch, Orochi believed that with enough gold and concessions to Kaidou, he could negotiate her presence in his palace.

As Orochi entered the grand hall, he was immediately struck by the imposing figure of Kaido, who lounged lazily on his grand throne, goblet in hand. The room was filled with Beasts Pirates, eyeing Orochi's arrival with curiosity and skepticism. He knew the attention was on him, and he relished the opportunity to speak directly with Kaido.

"Kaido!" Orochi boomed, attempting to match the Beast Pirate's own intimidating tone. "I've come with an offer that should interest you greatly."

Kaido raised an eyebrow, leaning forward as he eyed Orochi's attendants bearing heavy chests of gold and rare treasures. "This better be worth my time, Orochi," he growled, though there was a glimmer of interest in his gaze. "What do you want in exchange for all this?"

Orochi's eyes sparkled with greed. "A simple request, really. I seek a chance to persuade Komurasaki to join me, to bring her under my protection. I know she holds a special place here, but I am willing to make a generous trade in gold."

Kaido smirked, his gaze calculating. "You want Komurasaki, eh? She's currently part of King's... collection." He chuckled at Orochi's growing impatience. "But I'm no fool; I know how badly you want her."

Orochi forced a polite smile, though inside he was seething. "If you allow me an audience with King, I believe I can make my case."

"Fine," Kaido agreed, lifting his hand. "You can meet with King, but what happens from there is up to him. Leave your gold, and I'll allow it." Kaido's eyes narrowed. "But don't overstep, Orochi."

With Kaido's approval, Orochi was led down a long, dimly lit hallway toward King's quarters. He adjusted his robes, eager to present himself in his most authoritative manner. King was a difficult figure to persuade, but Orochi believed that with the right words, even the powerful All-Star might be swayed.

As he entered King's quarters, the silver-haired Lunarian glanced up, his gaze cold and unyielding. "Orochi," King greeted him simply, his tone flat. "What brings you here?"

Orochi didn't let the dismissive tone affect him, knowing he had to remain confident. "I've come with a proposal," he said, lifting his chin. "I seek Komurasaki's presence in my palace, and I'm willing to make a generous trade. Gold, influence—whatever it takes."

King's gaze sharpened. "Komurasaki is under my protection," he said curtly. "She has no interest in moving anywhere else."

"But you see, King," Orochi pressed, his tone syrupy, "a woman like her deserves to be cherished, to live in luxury befitting her beauty. I can provide her that. Besides, why not accept the offer? You're a warrior, not a caretaker."

King's gaze turned steely, his silence making Orochi falter slightly. But Orochi wasn't finished yet. "Think about it," he continued. "Kaido has already accepted the gold, and I believe it's in everyone's best interest if we come to an arrangement."

King's expression was unreadable, but after a long pause, he finally spoke. "I'll let you speak with her, but don't assume she's yours to command." His voice was edged with warning. "If she wishes to stay, she will."

Relieved, Orochi nodded quickly. "Thank you, King. I assure you, I have only her best interests at heart."

King said nothing further but gestured for Orochi to follow. They made their way through a series of hallways until they reached a quiet room where Komurasaki sat, a serene expression on her face as she played a shamisen. She looked up when they entered, her gaze landing on Orochi with a hint of disdain hidden behind a polite mask.

"Komurasaki," Orochi began, softening his voice, "I've come to offer you a brighter future—a future by my side. The Flower Capital adores you, and I can give you everything you could possibly desire."

Komurasaki's eyes were calm, unwavering as she listened, but her response was cool. "Orochi-sama, I appreciate your offer, but I am content here." She glanced at King, her expression one of quiet confidence.

Orochi's face twitched with irritation, but he forced himself to keep smiling. "Komurasaki, you don't understand. I can make you more than just an Oiran. You could have real power, real respect. And besides," he leaned closer, his voice a low whisper, "I could protect you from the dangers that lurk here."

She merely raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "I have no need for your protection, Orochi-sama. My loyalty lies here."

The dismissive tone grated on Orochi, his pride wounded by her indifference. "Do you realize who you're speaking to?" he hissed, his voice growing colder. "You're defying the Shogun himself. I could have you exiled, cast out, or worse."

Komurasaki's eyes flashed with defiance, but she remained silent, her gaze fixed on him with quiet strength.

Enraged by her lack of submission, Orochi's hand twitched, and he raised his voice, his words laced with fury. "You're just an Oiran! Do you really believe you can defy me?"

As he spat out the words, a sudden presence filled the room. King had returned, his eyes glinting with barely-contained fury. Without a word, he closed the distance between them, sending Orochi stumbling backward with a single, powerful kick.

"Orochi," King said, his voice low and lethal, "she isn't yours to control." The menace in his tone was unmistakable.

Orochi scrambled to his feet, fury and embarrassment warring within him. "King, this is between me and her!" he blustered, attempting to save face. But King's gaze was cold and unyielding.

"Enough," King declared, his voice a final warning. "Leave now, or I'll make sure you regret coming here." His eyes held a deadly glint, a promise of what would happen if Orochi dared to press further.

Humiliated, Orochi shot a last glare at Komurasaki, muttering under his breath as he turned to leave, his steps quick and graceless. But as he walked away, he knew one thing was certain: his desire for Komurasaki had only grown, and he wouldn't give up so easily.
