Chapter 367: Chapter 380: Your Biological Father

She sighed inwardly, feeling slightly relieved. For now, she could only take one day at a time.

At night, she slept with Han, turned off the lights, and listened to the quiet wind outside. She lowered her voice and called, "Han?"

Han answered softly, "Mommy."

Listening to the child’s innocent voice, Su Xingyu felt conflicted. Should she tell him the truth? Now that Ouyang Yi had shown his true colors, what if she didn’t warn Han, and he remained defenseless against Ouyang Yi? But if she did tell him, would he, a mere three-year-old, be able to handle such a secret? Might he lose composure and inadvertently tip off Ouyang Yi, causing harm? Su Xingyu was torn.

Han waited for a while, not hearing her speak, and called again, "Mommy?"

Su Xingyu sighed inwardly and finally made up her mind, "Han, Mommy has something very important to tell you. You must promise me not to tell anyone, not even your daddy. Do you understand?"

In the darkness, Han replied softly, "Okay."

Su Xingyu was not reassured and spoke sternly, "This is no laughing matter. You really must keep this secret. If you can’t, tell me now, and I won’t share it with you. This concerns the safety of both you and Mommy; it’s very important." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Han spoke with a serious tone too, extending his little hand to hold Su Xingyu’s hand: "Mommy, I understand what you mean. I won’t tell anyone what you are going to tell me, not even in front of Daddy. Don’t worry, Mommy, Han will protect Mommy."

His solemn tone made Su Xingyu smile amidst her ordeal.

In truth, she was still worried. Could a child’s promise be trusted? After all, he was still so young and might not fully grasp the significance of the matter. Yet, there was no better option now, and they had to take the risk.

She thought, being Lu Shifeng’s child, perhaps he had inherited some of his father’s traits, such as maturity beyond his years. She once disliked these traits in Lu Shifeng, but now, she hoped her son had them.

Taking a deep breath, she lowered her voice even further and told Han, "Ouyang Yi is not your real daddy, Han. Mommy didn’t have you with Ouyang Yi."

Han was startled, letting out a small "ah" in the darkness. Even in his extreme surprise, he learned to control the volume like her, and his gasp was so quiet that only Su Xingyu, sleeping next to him, heard it.

Seeing the child’s relatively calm reaction, Su Xingyu also steadied herself and continued, "Ouyang Yi is actually your foster father or adoptive father. When you were born, your real father wasn’t around, so we arranged for you to call him Daddy, to give you a complete family. But now things are different, Han. Mommy discovered that your Ouyang Daddy isn’t a good person; he’s harmed you and Mommy before. You must be careful of him."

Han was surprised again: "Ah..."

After his small surprise, he took a moment and then asked, "Ouyang Daddy isn’t my real daddy?"

Su Xingyu said with guilt, "I’m sorry."

In the darkness, the little head shook lightly, softly saying, "Mommy, I will be careful of Ouyang Daddy."

Su Xingyu replied with a relieved "Hmm," and continued, "Actually, Mommy’s recent work hasn’t been busy because I discovered a secret about your Ouyang Daddy. He’s taken you here to use you to threaten Mommy from revealing his secret. Han, your situation here is very dangerous. You must be careful to protect yourself until Mommy rescues you."

Han said, "Okay, Mommy, I’ll listen to you."

Flipping over, his small body nestled into Su Xingyu’s arms, his little hands gently encircling her neck. "Mommy," he buried his head at her neck and said, "Han is a little sad."

Sad?

Of course he would be.

When a child discovers that the father they have relied on and admired is actually a bad person, it’s a destructive feeling. Han’s current behavior was already good enough—he didn’t cry loudly or refuse to believe; amidst shock and sadness, he maintained enough composure, knowing to speak softly without alarming the outside, knowing to follow Mommy’s instructions. For a child, this was already a perfect response.

Su Xingyu wrapped her arms around him, soothingly stroking his head, saying, "Hold on, Han. Mommy will rescue you. You must pretend Mom hasn’t told you anything, and act the same in front of Ouyang Yi. Call him Daddy when you should, play with him when you must, don’t raise any suspicions about our escape plan, understand?"

The little one in her arms nodded.

Su Xingyu was apprehensive, unsure of whether he could act well in front of Ouyang Yi, yet there was no better option. Holding him tighter, she felt that they were like a small boat rocking in a storm, uncertain of where destiny’s waves would lead them.

How could she save him?

From the clutches of a terrifying man with myriad dark forces like a tangled web...

Without knowing how much time had passed.

The little one in her arms gently asked, "Mommy, where’s my biological daddy?"

Su Xingyu froze, visualizing a face as exquisitely chiseled as ice and snow; almost instantly, her heart burned with pain. "Your biological daddy..." She suddenly didn’t know how to explain this to the child. What should she say? Kids always idolize their fathers, especially little boys. Not creating a heroic father figure for him might affect his whole life. She had just destroyed Ouyang Yi’s image; she couldn’t destroy another.

After a long pause, she told Han, "Your biological daddy is very responsible, committed. He manages a very large company, and many people admire him. He... He can dismantle and assemble complex, precision machinery parts."

She racked her brains to come up with this.

Responsible? But not towards her.

Committed? Again, not towards her.

He was merely responsible and committed in his career, while his personal life was a mess, unable to even protect his own wife and child. Yet amidst all the pain, she couldn’t reveal one word about it to her Han.

In the darkness, Han’s eyes glimmered: "Wow, Daddy is awesome. Will he come to save us?"

Su Xingyu’s heart ached again, silent for a moment before saying, "He will, definitely."

The child said, "I really, really want to see him. If he knows Han has grown so big, he must be very happy."

But Su Xingyu recalled the incident where Lu Shifeng grabbed him for surgery, wanting to take his heart, listening to her child’s hopeful voice caused more pain. "Sleep," she said to the child.

The child fell asleep, satisfied.
