Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love-Chapter 401 - 414: Glass Nutrient Pod
"Is this the place?" she asked Lu Shifeng uncertainly, "Can this place heal my face?"
If Lu Shifeng hadn’t brought her here, she would almost think someone was playing a joke on her.
But Lu Shifeng was definitely not the kind of person to joke around.
"This is the place." The man nodded, got out of the car first, then opened the car door on her side to help her out.
He acted as if he was unaware of Su Xingyu’s thoughts, leading her straight inside, to the lobby on the first floor of a rundown building. It was a deserted reception area with only a computer and a young girl sitting in front of it, head down, painting her nails.
Upon hearing footsteps, the girl looked up at them.
She had an ordinary face, a lazy expression, and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Lu Shifeng pulled out a thin card from his suit pocket and handed it to her.
It was a black card with a greenish shine, subtly patterned like the skin of some snake, giving it an ominous look.
But the receptionist’s demeanor changed upon seeing the card. She took it and swiped it through a card reader next to the computer, then stood up, respectfully handing it back to Lu Shifeng: "The elevator to the base is at the end of the hallway to the left, sir. Just swipe the card there; someone from the base will meet you."
Lu Shifeng took it as usual, leading Su Xingyu in the direction indicated by the receptionist.
Su Xingyu followed him, her curiosity piqued. What kind of card did Lu Shifeng give out that changed the attitude so drastically?
Lu Shifeng led her to the elevator and pressed the down button.
Su Xingyu could no longer hold back: "Down? Isn’t this the first floor?"
In cities, lower floors are generally used as parking garages. If Lu Shifeng was taking her for treatment, they should be going up.
The elevator doors opened with a "ding" before them.
Lu Shifeng led her inside, finally explaining: "This biomedical company is very secretive. This old building on top is just a cover. Their core base is below."
Saying that, he pressed a button below the B1 level button that had no label.
Su Xingyu was filled with doubt. If she didn’t understand Lu Shifeng so well, she might suspect he was trying to traffic her as some sort of slave.
The feeling of descent subtly indicated the elevator was rapidly moving downward, yet it seemed like a very long time had passed without stopping.
Su Xingyu wondered if she was hallucinating and asked Lu Shifeng quizzically, "Why is it taking so long?"
"Because the base is built very deep underground," Lu Shifeng replied tersely, his expression growing solemn.
Being married for so long, Su Xingyu still knew some of his habits. For instance, he only spoke concisely and with an imperceptibly serious demeanor when he felt threatened.
Could it be...
Is it dangerous down there?
Su Xingyu’s thoughts raced wildly, feeling a bit uneasy.
"Just what kind of biomedical base is this," Su Xingyu couldn’t help but ask Lu Shifeng, as if trying to alleviate that inexplicable unease, "why is it so secretive and mysterious?"
Her voice was like crystal, resonating in the quietly sealed metal space, causing faint ripples.
Lu Shifeng turned to look at her, his voice steady yet undeniably authoritative: "The owner of this base is very dangerous. You could say they are the most dangerous person in the world. Xingyu, be careful later. If something happens, don’t act rashly. Find me for help immediately."
His words left Su Xingyu feeling somewhat apprehensive. The most dangerous person in the world?
If anyone else had said it, she might not believe, but coming from Lu Shifeng, one couldn’t help but believe it.
Only someone not ordinary could make him feel threatened.
After what felt like a century, the elevator finally came to a stop. The metal composite doors opened silently, revealing a vast silver-white plaza. It looked like an endless expanse of moonlight, smooth, mysterious, stretching infinitely into the distance, where there were intersecting elevators—no, more like fluorescent conveyor belts, pale purple, moving slowly, linking near and distant platforms, spheres, and rooms both aboveground and deep below, making it feel dreamlike.
Su Xingyu gazed at it all in awe.
It was all so unbelievable. The architecture here seemed more like a sci-fi movie set, not something from the real world.
"This..." she couldn’t help but exclaim in amazement.
Lu Shifeng looked at her briefly and gently took her hand, leading her out.
A faint breeze seemed to brush past.
If Su Xingyu remembered correctly, they should be underground now, so how could there be a breeze?
She was puzzled, but the massive impact of this underground base left her too overwhelmed to think too deeply.
Such a place beneath S City, it was truly incredible.
Outside the elevator, a person dressed as a researcher in a white lab coat appeared to greet them. The researcher had a bland demeanor, scanning them with nondescript eyes and confirmed, "Mr. Lu Shifeng, Ms. Su Xingyu?"
"Yes." Lu Shifeng replied simply, affirming.
The other nodded almost imperceptibly, inviting them, "Follow me."
All pleasantries were spared, and not a word was wasted.
Su Xingyu was astonished. This place was truly mysterious. Normally, those outside meeting Lu Shifeng would be overly respectful as if afraid to offend him. Yet this person acted as if Lu Shifeng’s esteemed status meant nothing. No... it’s not that it meant nothing, but that everyone—be it wealthy people or ordinary folks—seemed the same in the researcher’s eyes.
Su Xingyu, being a photographer, had a knack for reading people’s eyes, and she got that impression from the researcher.
She quietly followed Lu Shifeng forward, boarding a faintly purple glowing conveyor belt under the researcher’s lead, soon arriving at an enclosed spherical space.
At the center of the spherical space was a nutrient tank, a semi-transparent glass pool suspended in mid-air, filled with an unknown purple liquid.
The researcher stopped and turned to Su Xingyu, saying, "Lie down in there."
The color of the liquid was too strange, prompting Su Xingyu to glance at Lu Shifeng.
Lu Shifeng asked the researcher, "Are you sure this is the solution to help Xingyu recover her face? Her face is damaged this badly, doesn’t she need surgery or something?"
