Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love-Chapter 429 - 442: Worries in the Heavy Rain
"If it’s really not feasible, let the kids stay overnight at the kindergarten. The facilities there are quite comprehensive," Lu Shifeng said. When he was choosing the kindergarten for his children, he had already thoroughly investigated the situation there.
Su Xingyu shook her head: "No."
For some reason, she had felt a strong twitch in her eyelids since the afternoon, leaving her uneasy. She didn’t understand why she was so concerned about the two children, but she was determined to bring them back to her side.
Lu Shifeng didn’t insist on his opinion. In fact, during these days of being with her, he had been trying hard to make concessions and take care of her emotions. Nowadays, as long as it wasn’t a significant matter of principle, he tried to yield to her. After all, winning back her heart was the most important thing.
They headed down to the garage and got into Lu Shifeng’s Bentley car.
The driver, Zhou, had been waiting in the car. Upon hearing Lu Shifeng’s instructions, he pressed the accelerator and drove out. They used smart navigation to choose the least congested route, but with such heavy rain and the rush hour, all the roads in the city were clogged. Even with the optimal arrangement, they took longer than usual to get out of the city.
Su Xingyu was on the phone the entire way, though the signal was intermittent.
The voice from the kindergarten wasn’t very clear, but the person in charge reassured her, "Don’t worry, Mrs. Lu. The children are fine... Yes, many parents are coming to pick up the children. We’ll wait for you. By the way, the road in the mountains isn’t easy to drive on due to the heavy rain. Please tell your driver to be careful..."
Su Xingyu hung up the phone but still felt uneasy.
Lu Shifeng had long since lowered the divider between the front and back seats, creating a private space in the backseat.
He retrieved a set of dry emergency clothes from the storage box and said to Su Xingyu, "Change into this. You’re completely soaked."
Su Xingyu shook her head, too upset to change: "It’s still raining anyway."
"Once we pick up Jue and Han, if you’re drenched like this, the children might catch a cold." He sneezed as he spoke, affected by the cold emanating from her wet clothes.
Su Xingyu glanced at him, then finally took the clean clothes and turned her back to him to take off her wet clothes.
Her figure was slender, with a pair of delicate butterfly bones on her shoulder blades, which seemed to flutter with her movements, captivatingly in the deep, rainy night.
He watched her back as if enchanted, almost unable to resist pulling her into his embrace. But with great self-control, he restrained himself.
He no longer had the right to do anything that would disgust her and had to be cautious in everything, as if walking on thin ice.
Su Xingyu changed into the clean clothes. The dry warmth enveloping her made her realize how uncomfortable being soaked had been. She bundled her wet clothes into a ball and kicked them aside, then placed a dry wool blanket beneath her and curled up on the backseat, staring blankly.
Lu Shifeng continued to quietly watch her.
The small storage compartment in the backseat was not very large, only fitting one set of emergency clothes, prepared for his size.
On her, they appeared oversized, the loose white shirt and pants adding a sense of fragility to her appearance.
This time, he finally couldn’t resist and reached out to wrap his arm around her.
Immersed in worries about the two children, she was startled by the sudden contact and, reflexively, shrank her body, reprimanding him, "What are you doing?!"
"I didn’t mean to scare you," he explained, finding himself at a loss for words, awkwardly retracting his hand.
She glared at him fiercely, "The kids are still stuck in the rain, and what are you thinking about?!"
He tried to calm her, "The kids will be okay."
"Do you even care about them?!" Her mood was as chaotic as the weather, looking for an outlet through which to unleash her inner unrest. She shouted at him, "You insisted on sending them to kindergarten! I disagreed, but you still sent them! Once we bring them back, never send them there again! Did you hear me?!"
Lu Shifeng was silent.
While he didn’t want to argue with her, on the matter of sending the kids to kindergarten, he couldn’t concede to her wishes.
There were children from the Pei Family in the same class as Jue and Han, along with children from several of the city’s prestigious families. According to the kindergarten teachers, they were getting along well with Jue and Han. When these children grew up, their relationships would be invaluable, built from such early friendships.
Although Jue and Han were young, they needed to start paving the way for their future.
Seeing him not respond, Su Xingyu was enraged, "How unfortunate for Jue and Han to have you!"
Lu Shifeng was slightly startled, sensing something amiss in her words, but the thought quickly faded, and the strange feeling vanished.
So quickly that he couldn’t grasp it.
The driver focused on driving, and once they were out of the city, the traffic cleared. However, there were branches broken by the wind and puddles everywhere, making the drive difficult.
The driver pressed the one-way communication button to talk with them in the backseat: "Young Master, Young Madam, please hold on tight. We’re about to head onto the mountain road. A lot of mud has fallen from the mountains on both sides, making the road narrow and it’s a bit tricky to drive. I’m afraid you’ll have to endure a bit of a bumpy ride."
Lu Shifeng also pressed the communication button, reminding the driver to be careful.
The cabin fell into silence.
After hearing their conversation, Su Xingyu felt even more uneasy, pressing against the Bentley’s window to look outside.
Outside, the rain poured down, and the streetlights were dim. Indeed, as the driver had said, in the flickering light, piles of mud could be seen along the roadside, along with trees felled by the wind and damaged guardrails.
Xiu Mountain Kindergarten was built on a mountain and was said to be a feng shui treasure chest, backed by the mountain and facing the river. The air was good, the scenery was beautiful, and luck was favorable—ideal for a prestige-laden kindergarten.
Since its construction, nothing had happened here, and they had never faced such a severe storm.
Su Xingyu couldn’t help but let her mind wander, wanting the driver to go faster, wishing she could sprout wings and fly to see the children. However, she knew the road conditions were terrible and the driver was doing his best.
The vehicle stopped and started repeatedly, encountering several impassable places where the driver had to stop and get out to clear obstacles.
Su Xingyu wanted to help with the clearing, but Lu Shifeng stopped her: "I’ll go."
Understanding her anxiety, he left the car to help the driver move tree trunks and fill potholes, making the driver both grateful and guilty. "Young Master, you’re too precious to be doing this..."
Lu Shifeng calmly replied, "Getting us safely to the kindergarten as quickly as possible is the best repayment you could give."
