Sharing Dreams with My Bestie's Cousin-Chapter 50 - Overnight
Chapter 50: Overnight
Chapter 50: Overnight
Wen Zhi hadn’t wanted to bring up the matter again.
But just now, when he had held her in his embrace, all she could think of was the scene where he had carried her from Liang Yin’s car.
Shang Hexing looked down at her, “Like you said, it’s no trouble at all, just to avoid causing trouble for the Shang family.”
Wen Zhi choked up.
The next second, she immediately sat up.
She adjusted her almost bursting collar and turned her face away, saying, “I can’t believe Bei Sheng would relay those words to you exactly as I said them.”
There’s no privacy at all; it seems I have to be more guarded when I talk to Bei Sheng in the future.
Shang Hexing noticed her displeasure and patiently explained, “Bei Sheng is barely an acquaintance to you, hardly a friend, and she is ultimately my subordinate working for my interests. If she weren’t loyal, you wouldn’t even meet her.”
Wen Zhi suddenly turned her head to look at him.
Shang Hexing asked, “Do you understand now?”
Complex emotions filled Wen Zhi’s eyes as she nodded, “I understand.”
Just then, Bei Sheng and Wei You came in carrying various bags, and Shang Hexing gently patted Wen Zhi’s back, “Let’s go, it’s time for dinner.”
Wen Zhi got up and followed him into the dining room.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was pleasant. Wei You was good at making conversation, Bei Sheng was good at catching the drift, Chen Jinhai was honest and straightforward, Shang Hexing occasionally joined in, and Wen Zhi quickly integrated into the atmosphere.
Shortly after dinner, Chen Jinhai received a phone call and stepped out.
A few minutes later, Chen Jinhai came back holding a bag. He first went upstairs to report to Shang Hexing, then came downstairs towards Wen Zhi.
Unsure what was happening, Wen Zhi watched as Chen Jinhai took out a cellphone and a pair of glasses from the bag.
She was surprised, “Are these my phone and glasses?”
Chen Jinhai nodded, “Yes, Mr. Shang specifically instructed to find Miss Wen’s phone and glasses and now they have been returned to their rightful owner.”
Wen Zhi took the phone and glasses, instinctively saying thanks.
The glasses weren’t that important; she could easily replace them. The phone was crucial as it contained important stuff within. Shang Hexing really did care.
At that moment, Chen Jinhai reminded her, “It was Mr. Shang’s instruction. Miss Wen, if you want to give thanks, you should thank Mr. Shang.”
Wen Zhi paused, then looked upstairs.

The interior of Qionglou was designed in a ‘returning’ shape with a central water courtyard; the west-side terrace offered a close view of the waterscape. At that time, Shang Hexing and Wei You were sitting on the west-side terrace.
The two were probably chatting leisurely, Wei You animated and Shang Hexing’s lips curved in a faint smile. When he noticed Wen Zhi’s gaze, he looked down.
As their eyes met, Wen Zhi also gave him a light smile.
Shang Hexing looked away and said something to Wei You across from him, then stood up and went downstairs.
Seeing him actually descend, Wen Zhi’s heartbeat quickened significantly. She fixed her gaze on the direction of the staircase until his tall figure entered her vision. Without hesitation, she quickly approached.
“Mr. Shang,” she called out.
Her voice unusually melodious and flowing.
Shang Hexing stepped down the last stair, standing still waiting for her to come over. Wen Zhi moved quickly, almost running, her red skirt flaring out at maximum radius. As she approached, her breath became slightly heavy, her almond-shaped eyes brimming like washed-over pools, distressingly beautiful.
He asked, “Planning to leave?”
With a curved smile, Wen Zhi earnestly responded, “I wanted to say thank you.”
Shang Hexing glanced at the glasses and phone in her hand, “No need, it was no trouble at all.”
Wen Zhi’s smile suddenly froze.
It was the first time she felt the phrase ‘no trouble at all’ was poisonous.
He must think she’s exceptionally ungrateful.
Shang Hexing took in Wen Zhi’s reaction and the corner of his mouth curved in a hidden smile, “Besides saying thank you, there is nothing else?”
“There’s more,” Wen Zhi lifted her face, and as she spoke again, she stammered slightly, “I really should be getting back.”
Shang Hexing asked her, “Going back where?”
“The old house.”
Wen Zhi met his gaze, “I just checked my phone and saw that Madame had called but I didn’t answer. I have been out so long today, Madame must be worried about me.”
It wasn’t just unanswered calls from Chong Wanyin; there were also calls from Shang Jing, Meng Fan, and Gu Rang.
She hadn’t yet returned each call; she had come to thank him first.
Shang Hexing stepped forward, and Wen Zhi followed his pace, hearing him say, “There will be a thunderstorm after two o’clock, lasting about an hour and a half.”
Wen Zhi instinctively looked up at the sky.
The clouds outside the atrium were somewhat gray, likely heralding rain.
His voice reached her, “I have a vacation today, I won’t be going out this afternoon. The driver is available anytime to take you, and additionally, Qionglou has spare rooms for overnight stays if you decide.”
Stay overnight at Qionglou?
Wen Zhi had never considered it.
So she would have to wait until after the rain to return.
The weather forecast was accurate, and indeed after two o’clock, the thunderstorm began.
With the sound of rain and wind howling outside the window, Wen Zhi stood by the window, returning each call. She told Chong Wanyin she was at Meng Fan’s house, told Shang Jing she was at Meng Fan’s house, told Gu Rang she had gone to Meng Fan’s house, but the truth only to Meng Fan—
“I am at Qionglou.”
At that moment, Meng Fan was outside, tracking and clandestinely photographing her husband.
As it was raining, Meng Fan had to sit in a café to avoid the rain. She stared through the glass at her husband’s Bentley while absentmindedly chatting with Wen Zhi and drinking her coffee, “Which building?”
Wen Zhi said, “Qionglou.”
“Pff—” The coffee Meng Fan had just sipped spit out violently.
In a high-end café, where the patrons were all elegant people.
Meng Fan’s attire was exactly that of a wealthy young lady, and yet, she spat out coffee in public, attracting curious looks. Meng Fan smiled apologetically while awkwardly wiping her mouth with a paper napkin.
Wen Zhi asked, “What happened?”
Meng Fan, “I just spat out my coffee, and now everyone is looking at me, probably thinking I am sick.”
Wen Zhi couldn’t help but snicker.
A waiter came to clean up the table, Meng Fan wiped her clothes and ordered another caramel macchiato, then said to Wen Zhi on the phone, “I can imagine you anywhere, just never thought you would be at Qionglou.”
Wen Zhi explained to her the reasons she had stayed there.
After hearing this, Meng Fan was both angry and anxious, slamming a palm on the coffee table, “That despicable woman, she’s getting more audacious by the day!”
The noise from the table slam once again drew sideways glances, but this time Meng Fan was indifferent to the looks.
Wen Zhi, the person involved, however, was very calm and even consoled the angry Meng Fan, “She didn’t succeed this time, and from now on, I’ll be more cautious wherever I go.”
“Being cautious is never enough!” Meng Fan felt a pang of truth in her heart.
Wen Zhi said, “She’ll hold back for a while.”
This time the scheme had failed, and Wen Yiwan wouldn’t dare to misbehave for a while, for such outrageous tactics once exposed and caught by her, Wen Yiwan herself would also be unlucky.
Although Meng Fan was infuriated, considering Wen Zhi’s feelings, she asked tentatively, “Does your dad know about this?”
Wen Zhi pursed her lips, quietly staring out the window at the potted landscapes being washed by the rain.
After a long pause, she slowly said, “He will know, but that’s all he will do.”
