Shocked! The Young Master's Petite Darling Is a Master of Mysteries-Chapter 451: Three People Make a Tiger
"Xu Yi." Xin Rou adjusted her expression and said in a low voice, "Have you heard any rumors lately..."
Mrs. Lu narrowed her eyes, "What rumors?"
She has been recuperating at the Lu Family, seldom stepping outside or socializing, so she really didn’t know what rumors Xin Rou was referring to.
Xin Rou looked up and glanced towards the stairs, ensuring that Xia Mian and Lu Zechuan were out of sight, before lowering her voice to say, "It’s related to your family’s future daughter-in-law."
Mrs. Lu’s brows suddenly knitted tightly, "Related to Mianmian?"
Seeing Mrs. Lu’s sudden change of expression, Xin Rou hesitated, unsure if she should speak further.
"Xu Yi, I just heard..." Xin Rou stammered, "I heard someone say that your family’s future daughter-in-law seems not to be human..."
As Xin Rou’s words fell, Mrs. Lu slammed her hand on the back of her wheelchair, her wrinkled face taut, clearly displeased.
"Who’s spreading this nonsense?!" Mrs. Lu said sternly.
Xin Rou’s face immediately turned awkward, "Xu Yi, don’t get agitated. We’ve all met your future granddaughter-in-law; she’s pretty and polite."
Pausing, Xin Rou continued, "But recently, there have been quite a few strange incidents around us."
Mrs. Lu frowned even more deeply.
She was all too aware of the recent strange occurrences.
In fact, she had personally experienced a bizarre incident! If it weren’t for Xia Mian’s intervention, she might have inexplicably died in her sleep!
No one understands better than her if Xia Mian is human or not.
It’s fine if she knows certain things herself, but others cannot say them!
"Ah Rou," Mrs. Lu’s voice was a bit heavier, "if you consider me a friend, don’t bring such talk to me again."
Xin Rou looked apologetic and murmured, "I’m just afraid you’ll suffer a loss."
After a sigh, Xin Rou continued, "Ever since Lu Zechuan met that girl, there have been frequent strange happenings around you..."
"How do you know?" Mrs. Lu suddenly looked up at Xin Rou.
What happened since Xia Mian came to the Lu Family was the family’s business.
How could family matters be spread outside?
How did outsiders come to discuss it?
"I also heard it during gatherings." Xin Rou said softly, "Everyone’s saying that you and your grandson are blinded, giving up your own family for an outsider..."
Mrs. Lu’s face had turned extremely sullen, Yu Wenxin beside her lightly coughed, giving Xin Rou a disapproving look, "Ah Rou, what nonsense are you spouting? We’re here to visit Xu Yi, not to upset her!"
Xin Rou lowered her eyes, "If you think I’m talking nonsense, then just consider it nonsense!"
As Xin Rou spoke, she stood up, "It’s getting late, I won’t disturb your rest any longer. I’ll head back."
As Xin Rou got up to leave, Yu Wenxin’s brows immediately furrowed into a knot.
The three of them had been close since childhood. Although they drifted apart after marriage due to their families, their friendship remained unchanged.
For Xin Rou to say such things today, it might genuinely be for Xu Yi’s well-being.
However, Mrs. Lu is clearly very fond of and attentive to her future granddaughter-in-law, so it’s unlikely she would appreciate Xin Rou’s unpleasant words.
With Xin Rou intending to leave, Mrs. Lu didn’t urge her to stay, instructing the servants to see her out, while she continued to accompany Yu Wenxin.
Once Xin Rou had left, Yu Wenxin stammered, "Ah Rou didn’t mean any harm, don’t take her words to heart."
Mrs. Lu acknowledged with a soft "hmm," but there were undercurrents in her slightly cloudy eyes.
She hadn’t expected that by simply recuperating at home for a while, such rumors would already be circulating outside.
"Take care of your health; I’ll visit you again next time." Yu Wenxin also stood up.
She had initially come this time hoping to secure some fruit.
But with recent strange events and considering the extraordinary effects of the fruits she purchased, she feared there might be something unusual about them, possibly causing side effects if consumed too much, so she dared not buy more.
Yu Wenxin also left.
It was only after this that Sister-in-law Zhang, who had been standing behind Mrs. Lu, cautiously asked, "Madam, is it time to eat?"
Mrs. Lu glanced at the European clock in the living room, noting it was already past twelve.
She slowly nodded, "Yes, call the young master and Miss Xia to come down for the meal."
Mrs. Lu had originally thought she wouldn’t care about Xia Mian’s identity.
But now, with Xin Rou once again bringing up the notion that Xia Mian might not be human, Mrs. Lu realized it did matter to her.
When Lu Zechuan and Xia Mian came downstairs, Mrs. Lu was already seated at the dining table, but she was lost in thought.
Lu Zechuan hadn’t encountered his grandmother in such a daze for many years.
Seeing her dazed expression now made Lu Zechuan frown deeply.
When he was young, his grandmother often appeared lost in thought, usually because of troublesome issues she was dealing with.
Lu Zechuan pulled a chair for Xia Mian, waiting for her to sit before taking a seat next to her.
"Grandmother," Lu Zechuan called softly, "are you upset?"
Before they went upstairs, grandmother was still happily chatting with her old friends.
Why now, did she look so downcast?
Mrs. Lu didn’t respond, merely looking up with complex emotions in her eyes towards Xia Mian.
Xia Mian, puzzled, called out, "Grandmother?"
Mrs. Lu seemed to awaken from her trance.
No matter what others said about Xia Mian, she was the future granddaughter-in-law Mrs. Lu had chosen, that was certain!
If it weren’t for Xia Mian, she would’ve died multiple times, that also wouldn’t be wrong!
"I’m fine, let’s eat!" Mrs. Lu suppressed all her worries.
She couldn’t let those rumors reach Xia Mian’s ears; hearing them would hurt her.
Mrs. Lu arranged for the two to eat, but Lu Zechuan reported his visit to Lu Zeming today.
Lu Zhenhua, unkind and unjust, if Lu Zeming were to escape his father’s draining grasp, it would have to depend on Mrs. Lu.
After hearing Lu Zechuan’s words, Mrs. Lu merely sighed lightly, "Your uncle has already been kicked out of the Lu Family, their affairs I have no right to interfere with, this matter has to be handled by that boy Lu Zeming himself."
By Mrs. Lu’s tone, she didn’t plan to interfere in Lu Zeming’s affairs.
Lu Zechuan lightly furrowed his brows but said no more.
Grandmother was right, the primary house had already been cut off by her; if she intervened again, they might seize the opportunity to leech off the family once more.
