Chapter 110: Solo Hunting

Jax went on his first solo hunt today. freeweɓnovel-cøm

With his party gone, he felt that he had no choice but to do it all alone. He had gotten used to most of the monsters anyway, so fighting them was no issue at all.

Only certain monsters posed him any issue, and that he could easily deal with all the equipment he had. He now wore a Black Lead Helmet, Black Lead Greaves, Black Lead Gauntlets, and a Black Lead Shin Guard.

They were heavy, but having reached the 5-Star Opal stage, Jax could easily handle that weight while flexibly fighting through the many monsters of the forest.

Jax had a level of freedom without his party since he could now spend as much time butchering monsters and searching for various herbs. He had no obligation to keep moving and could waste as much time as he wanted.

Doing so certainly slowed him down a lot, but that allowed him to find herbs and flowers that he hadn’t before. As he learned to recognize them at a glance, it would be far faster in the future.

"I forgot how boring it was to do this all day on my own," Jax said. "Gemma, can you talk a little more?"

"Sure!" Gemma said. "Have you thought about your party yet?"

"No. I still have 4 months, don’t I? Besides, I already have a member."

"It’s not even guaranteed that she will join you," Gemma said. "She could always leave you, and she wouldn’t be in the wrong."

Jax paused for a moment and shook his head. "Mel won’t do that. I can tell."

"What if she has to?" Gemma asked. "Do you think she will stay behind with you if you fail your quest past the 4 months?"

Jax couldn’t help but frown at that. "She has said she will help me search for the boss as soon as she is done with her quest."

"Can two people even kill a 1-Star Emerald boss?" Gemma asked. "I would call it impossible really."

"What are you saying?" Jax asked. "That we need more people in the party if we want to beat the Monkey?"

"That’s exactly what I’m saying. You need a party, and you need to start searching for one quickly."

Jax frowned. "Alright," he said. "I’ll think about it later."

He went through the forest, finding more herbs, and killing more beasts. From time to time, he brought out his new whip and started swinging it at random targets to try and practice his aim.

Since he had never used a whip, he had no idea how to get better at it at all. But, he had to do it no matter what since it would only help him.

He was trying to do two things with this whip.

Because this whip was pure white, made entirely of the best threads he could make, using it would slowly help him instinctively understand that his threads could become a weapon as well.

Jax hoped that by doing so, he could start using his threads as a weapon, which would allow him to use Weapon Fortification on it.

At the same time, because his threads could only be used as long whips, training with a whip would help him practice his accuracy and precision.

Jax tried to train with both arms, but of course his dominant right arm was what he ended up using most of the time just because it was easy.

Jax continued his trek through the forest when he saw the next beast. He could see its large branches from where he was already, so he knew it was the Seven-Crowned Treant.

He walked toward it, ready to fight it and kill it as quickly as he could, when he noticed something.

The monster had purple veins streaking throughout its body, which sometimes glowed and dimmed, as if it was breathing.

Jax paused as he realized that this was no ordinary monster at all. His axe appeared in his hand even as he debated with himself whether he should fight it or if he should run away.

Running away was easily the best option here, but Jax wanted to fight this thing.

’It’s my first time fighting an Elite monster after all.’

Elite monsters were the second strongest monsters in the field, after the boss. Unlike a boss, the elites weren’t guaranteed to spawn at all, so the chances of meeting one was in fact much less than a boss.

The last time Jax had been this close to one had been on his first day as a porter, where the sorceress and the rest had to fight an Elite Giant Black Bear.

That was the day he had received his Spell.

’I can do it, can’t I?’ Jax thought before shaking away any doubts he had in himself. He took a deep breath and stepped forward.

With each step, he activated his Skills.

Body Fortification activated first, making him feel stronger and overall faster.

With the next step, he activated Featherweight Armor, making his armor weigh as little as just a few slimes. He became faster.

With the next step, he activated Weapon Fortification, as Navi flowed into his axe, empowering it to become far stronger than it was.

With the next step, he jumped as the monster’s vines came swinging at him.

In the air, Jax activated the spell in his axe, and an illusory image of his axe appeared behind him, following its trajectory.

Jax landed on the treant’s head, swinging his axe on its body as hard as he could.

The blow landed with a loud bang, and almost immediately another loud bang shook the forest. The treant was blown backward, nearly tipping over. It wailed, swinging its vines again to attack at Jax, who moved back.

But before he did that, he used his Spell again.

He had been forced to use only a single element for his spell for the past 2 months, so he finally had the freedom to use the other elements.

Immediately, he wrapped the monster’s entire body with poison threads.
