Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 67: Lizard-Like
Chapter 67: Lizard-Like
Jax walked into the boss room, staring at the boss that was within it. The room had a desert biome, with a barren ground under his feet, and a few dead trees scattered around the room. Far at the end of the room was the boss, a lizard-like beast that sat on a stone chair, as if it were a human.
The way it sat wasn’t the only human thing about the beast. It also wore clothes, mainly a thick metal armor that was attached to multiple parts of its body. The armor was made up of a chest piece, two bracers, two elbow guards, two gauntlets, two knee guards, two greaves, and one helmet.
The lizard looked more like a warrior than any warrior Jax had seen yet.
The lizard had red scales to it, which meant that it was going to be strong from the start. The color was likely going to change to black after this, assuming there wasn’t another phase in between.
Jax didn’t know what this monster was, or if he had ever even heard of it before. Looking at the way it sat on the chair, Jax almost thought the beast was a ruler, sitting on its throne.
The lizard glanced toward Jax lazily before looking away.
Jax brought out his axe, holding it tightly. He felt the slow buzzing of his head that came with a lack of sleep. His body felt slightly tense too, which he needed to fix.
The main thing Jax really needed was sleep, which he would have to get once he was done fighting with this boss. Considering the 3-Star ticket it held, Jax feared it wasn’t going to be so easy.
He was halfway through the barren land when the lizard-like beast turned its head toward him. Then suddenly, it whistled.
Jax readied himself to block an attack that might have been coming his way, but nothing happened at all. He was confused for a moment when he suddenly saw movement around the place.
The ground shook as mounds appeared in the barren land, cracking open as smaller beasts similar to the one on the chair walked out from underneath. Each one of them held a spear in their hand, their 3-fingered talons gripping it tightly.
There were 6 of those beasts in total, with their reptilian body and face. These smaller ones wore some semblance of clothes as well, but there was no armor like the one the throne wore. It didn’t look like these things needed armor either. Their scales seemed to do that job even from the look of it.
’What are they?’ Jax wondered.
The beasts surrounded him, forming a semi-circle around him. The beast on the throne roared at them and one of them moved forward, pointing its spear at Jax.
Jax blinked a few times, surprised. The humanoid beast seemed to be calling him to a duel. An actual, proper duel. He glanced around at the other 5 beasts that stood back, fully intending to not help their comrade at all.
Was there some trick to what was going on here?
Jax couldn’t tell. His foggy mind made it harder to think as well. The backlash from the potion was starting to get more intense. He needed to be done with this battle as soon as he could so he could go to sleep.
Jax stepped forward, without a care if he was walking into a trap. He was going to have to fight them all anyway, so it mattered not if they all decided to come at him at the same time halfway through the battle.
Navi filled him in that moment as he used his spell, clearing some of the fatigue he felt. But it wouldn’t be nearly enough.
"Come!" Jax shouted as he taunted the beast and made his way toward it. The beast held the spear before him and thrust it forward as Jax arrived.
This close, the beast had no clue what it was in for.
Jax immediately used his spell, wrapping the beast around in multiple loops of his string. Then, he simply walked in closer and swung his axe as hard as he could.
The beast’s scales crunched under the force of his obsidian axe, as he cleanly cleaved through the beast’s neck, decapitating it.
Jax saw a flash of light as the beast died, and heard words as a notification arrived.
<Congratulations! You have killed a ’Kobold Warrior’>
4 Opal stones appeared from its body at the same time. ’It’s a 4-Star beast?’ Jax knew that the bosses in the maze were strong, but to imagine that a subordinate of the boss would be this strong as well. This beast far surpassed the Great Black Bear that he would fight in the Cobweb Forest.
’Kobold warrior. So this beast is called a kobold?’ he thought. He hadn’t read that name after coming to the train, but he was sure he knew what a kobold was now that he heard about it.
They were a race of lizard-like humanoid beasts that lived deep in the forest, said to be descended from the dragons. Something about the knowledge Jax had told him that kobolds were supposed to be sapient creatures, capable of speech, but it didn’t look like these ones could talk.
’Not the same kobold perhaps?’ Jax thought.
He grabbed the large stones that floated before him and placed them into his inventory. Then he stared at the other 5 beasts, looking out for which one would come for him first.
One of them stepped forward on their own, roaring at Jax with its spear pointed toward him. It seemed to be trying to duel him all on its own, despite seeing how easily its friend had just been killed.
Jax showed no mercy.
This kobold died just as easily as well, its shoulders hacked halfway through. It fell down afterward, giving Jax more stones to gather.
Jax took the stones and placed them into his inventory. Then he looked at the remaining four.
"Who’s next?"
