Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 91: In a Party
Chapter 91: In a Party
Jax dodged the sweeping vines of the treant monster, jumping over it to arrive before its body. He swung down his axe, chopping off one of the remaining 5 branches on its head. freёnovelkiss.com
To kill the Seven-Crowned Treant, one had to cut off the seven branches coming out of the top of its head.
"Great!" the blond-haired leader shouted, one who went by the name of Sho. "Fall back!"
Jax followed the leader’s order, dodging back just as a crescent blue slice went flying past him and hit the treant’s head, cutting off another one of its branches in one attack.
"Too soon, Kaya," the leader said. "But that was a good attack."
"Sorry!" the female sorceress of the group, Kaya, replied.
The leader himself stepped up next, holding a large shield before him, taking the brunt of a vine whip that came toward the party.
"Gram! Arrows. Cici, buff Jax."
Two arrows flew back to back, hitting the treant with two explosive forces that knocked it backward. The archer, Gram, was a talented marksman.
Cici used a spell to apply two buffs on Jax, both of which prompted a notification for him.
<You have been Blessed>
<Your attacks deal an additional 20% slashing damage>
<Your attacks deal an additional 30% blunt damage>
The moment Jax saw the notification, he jumped back in, striking at the branches on top of the monster. This time, thanks to his buff, he managed to cut through 2 of the branches.
The team shuffled around, the leader taking on the treant’s onslaught while the others either gained back their spells or were ready to jump back into action.
Two more arrows struck the monster’s body, while another one of its branches was cleaved away by Kaya.
Jax jumped in for the last one, swinging with all his might. The axe struck the single remaining branch, and failed to cut it in half.
’Shit!’
He immediately let go of the axe that was stuck onto the beast, and moved back just in time to dodge its lashing attack. By the time he got back into the fight, Cici had restrained the monster just enough for the leader to smash its head with his shield, breaking off the final branch.
With all seven branches destroyed, the treant simply died.
As the leader got back up, Jax walked up to the beast to retrieve his axe.
"Sorry. I should’ve hit harder at the end. I made you have to get in."
"No, that’s alright," the leader, Sho, said. "You’re only 4-Star. I fight with the consideration that you are going to make mistakes so that we don’t accidentally end up attacking each other."
"Everyone, good job on killing the monster. One note though, for Kaya. Please fight with the assumption that your party members are stupid and will make mistakes so that you don’t accidentally end up using your spell, assuming that someone would move out of the way."
"Sorry," Kaya said with a somewhat embarrassed look, holding her sapphire blue staff.
Gram, the archer, walked forward. "Was it a 5-Star monster?" he asked. "It didn’t feel like it."
"It was," Sho said, revealing the 5-Opal stones he had received for killing the monster. "We’ve gotten stronger, so they’re not as big of a threat anymore."
Jax looked around at the aftermath of the battle and how Sho led the party. If he had to fight alone, this battle with the Seven-Crowned Treant would’ve likely taken him at least a few minutes.
The main issue with the Seven-Crowned Treant was that while its branches needed to be cut off, it couldn’t be done so easily. One had to damage the treant’s body first, before the branch was weak enough to be destroyed easily.
In the last hit, the treant hadn’t been damaged enough, which was why Jax had failed to cut it in one strike.
"Let’s go see what other monsters we come across," Sho said. "We’re too weak to find wild bosses, so sadly we’ll have to hope we don’t come across the gorgon."
The four of them began walking away, which confused Jax. "Guys? Are we letting the corpse go to waste?" he asked.
The group stopped, turning to look at him. "What’s the issue?" the leader asked.
"The Seven-Crowned Treant’s sap is sought after, is it not? I’m sure I read that yesterday," he said. "We should collect some to sell it."
Everyone gave weird looks. "We... don’t know how to do it," the leader said. "We usually skip this portion."
Jax’s eyes glinted upon hearing that. "Then, do you mind if I quickly take some for myself?"
The leader shrugged. "Don’t take too long. We can’t waste much time."
Jax immediately got to it. He didn’t know much about butchering the monsters of this Carriage, but they couldn’t be that much different. He just needed to accurately snip away at some sections, opening up the corpse to get to what he needed.
For the treant, it was ridiculously easy. Anywhere he stabbed on the monster’s body, the sap would just seep out. He brought out a few empty jars he kept in his inventory at all times and collected the sap.
He got what he could in the few minutes he had before stepping away. "Thanks for waiting for me. We can leave."
The party moved along, further into the forest.
As time passed by and they fought a few more beasts, Jax got a much clearer understanding of the benefits of having a party, the most important of which was just the safety of everyone.
Since one didn’t have to risk their life to fight a single monster, and could instead share that workload with others, one was much safer as a result.
The downside of course was that they would have to share everything they got, but that didn’t matter as much since the battles concluded quite quickly, so they could go out to find more monsters.
This also gave Jax the perfect opportunity to test out his Earth threads and see just how strong they were in general.
