Chapter 32: Sudden Backstab

Shaan was unaware of the inner discord that was secretly brewing, but even if he was aware, he would have readily fang the flames.

"So are you sure, they have hoarded lots of crystals?"

"I just took 1100 zombie crystals by exchanging 20% supplies with me, judging by their greedy and desperate faces, I really doubt they have any stock left."

Shaan was candid in his tone.

"Oh, you nothing!"

"Our team of five have been together for the past 2 years, the amount of crystals with us is enough to drive you crazy!"

"Now that you have so much food, you should immediately exchange it with them, it will save you the trouble of working hard alone."

Alice, like an inside-out wolf, was even more excited than Shaan himself.

She felt it was the perfect chance to take her petty revenge against Sabrina and other co-teammates.

"I see....."

"So let’s follow this arrangement."

Shaan, who had been previously thinking along the same lines nodded in agreement.

"By the way, how strong is your current strength?"

Like a curious cat, once became familiar, Alice decided to test her backer’s strength.

Hearing her sudden question, Shaan was baffled.

How strong was he?

He himself had no idea.

Diligently learning all three systems of cultivation- Energy, soul and body, his strength was growing leaps and bounds.

"This.....I am not sure about how to answer that."

Hearing such a response, when Alice’s excited eyes almost dimmed with disappointment, Shaan’s next word sent a cold shiver down her spine.

"But if you want to take a reference, when I was coming towards you in the morning, I met two strange people in uniform."

"They called themselves peak Level 2 Evolvers from a nearby refugee shelter."

"Although I used some tricks in dealing with them, without any external help, I was still confident of solving them within 10 minutes."

Shaan recounted his tale like telling some trivial story.

Alice almost shouted in disbelief, the gravity of his words was enough to leave her shell-shocked.

"W-What talent were those guys?"

Alice blurted out right away.

Shaan pondered for a while before answering,

"One should be a speed talent like Leona and the other should have the so-called telekinetic ability."

Buzzz~

Alice’s small head once again went into overdrive, unable to process this information.

For the rest of the journey, Alice’s mouth remained shut.

It was not because she had nothing to say, on the contrary, she couldn’t fathom how deep her sponsor’s strength was.

It’s better to stay quiet and obediently follow the master.

Don’t they say?.... Excess curiosity kills the cat?

Not minding her silence all along, Shaan kept leisurely strolling towards the city square where the rest of the team members were staying in make-shift camps.

But the scenery there was enough to arouse the inquisitiveness of Shaan and Alice as bystanders.

Just a few meters away from them, Mark, Luther and Leona were standing proudly encircling Sabrina.

There was a tinge of sadness and unjustness in her struggling eyes.

"Oh, ohoooo!"

"Seems we have a show to watch?"

Lightly patting Alice’s back, Shaan exclaimed with amusement.

"Hmm, hehe it seems our esteemed and haughty leader Sabrina is gonna suffer great injustice."

"I had seen it coming, with her narrow-minded and unfair personality, this day was bound to come sooner or later."

Alice just sighed expectedly as she had foreseen this situation long in advance.

As both of them guessed, things were indeed heating up in front of them.

"Mark, Luther...weren’t both of you just some beggars trying hard every day to fend for yourselves? Don’t forget it was me who helped you become an Evolver and let you defy your mortal fate!"

Sabrina gritted her teeth as she shouted loudly.

Then she turned her head to look at the other person,

"And you Leona? Didn’t I always treat you like a junior sister, so why are you siding with these guys?" freeweɓnovel~cѳm

Not understanding their reasons, Sabrina kept shaking her head in denial.

"Tsk...Tskk!"

"We admit you helped us by becoming superhumans, but you are incapable as a leader."

"Only someone more ambitious and ruthless like us should be the new leader."

Mark was the first to break the silence.

"Yeah, with our current strength, it should be pretty easy to be admitted directly as an elite team in any popular shelter.

"There we can enjoy the life of royals, let all those weak humans serve us like servants......but no! You had to keep your ego and let us hunt alone in direing conditions."

Luther growled like a wild beast, there was an unconcealed yearning in his voice as he screamed.

"Yeah, if you gotta blame someone then blame yourself for being incompetent."

"Facing other evolvers as well as those powerful former government higher-ups, you had always forced us to bow our heads and accept compromise time and again."

"Is this how a capable leader should act?...so timid and weak like a kitten?"

"Because of your stupid decisions over the past few months, our teams has suffered so much moral torture, have you any idea?"

Leona also sneered with utter disgust in her eyes.

Everyone knew all of this just were excuses, the true reason for an inner coup since time immemorial had always remained unchanged- Power usurps.

They just talk out their inner thoughts to appear high on the moral ground, after all, during a leadership reversal, it’s always fun and satisfying to break the other’s sound mind.

And their vain words hit right at the mark, Sabrina almost lost her mind.

She never knew all this time, she had been harbouring wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Sabrina’s chest started heaving up and down at a violent speed.

Her mind was full of anger, as someone in command from the start, How can she accept such a drastic change so casually?

She built this team from scratch with the sole intention of building her independent force.

Although 2 years have passed, with their current strength, she was sure they would soon achieve her short-term goal of building a small shelter, where only she is in absolute control.

Every member with a different ability had been sought out like a jade by her, in her mind- She had been righteous and sincere in her actions. She always considered the team member’s interests before her.

Otherwise, compared to them, with her excellent talent, she was sure she would have long become a Level 3 Evolver...no her goal was to become the legendary Level 10 Evolver who is like an immortal.

How can the craft and cunning Sabrina accept such a twist of fate?

She was ready to defend her title as the sole leader.

If a fight would it take.... then she was willing to put up a last-ditch effort.

But 1v3, the difference in numbers was a decisive reminder for her.

Feeling downcast, when Sabrina felt all hope was lost, her gaze suddenly fell on the pair of Shaan and Alice sneakily enjoying the show.

Like finding her saviour, she hurriedly rushed to them,

"Alice, hurry and use your buff on me!"

"With your support abilities, I should be easily able to overpower these three traitors."

"Only I deserve to be the leader, as long as I am able to beat some sense into them, they will once again acknowledge me as the undisputed head of this team."

Filled with enthusiasm, Sabrina crazily tried to hold Alice’s hand in solidarity.

’Hmm, who cares about this team anyways!’

’I am now the errand girl of a future powerhouse, hmm!’

Snorts~

Alice who had realised Shaan’s exaggeragarted strength resolutely steeped out, avoiding Sabrina’s touch straightforwardly.

Thinking little Alice was showing tantrum because of previous biased distribution of supplies, Sabrina instantaneously felt a bit regretful, perhaps she should had been a bit more considerate in the past.

"Alice, as long as you are ready to help me you will get special treatment in future."

Trying to salvage the situation, Sabrina tried her best to incite Alice’s inner greed.

But sadly for her, Alice.....who had now become a slave girl of Shaan with plenty of food and zombie crystals in her pocket, how could she be tempted by such a childish promise?

"I am sorry sister Sabrina, but I don’t want to be a part of this inner struggle!"

"You guys yourself sort out this mess."

Alice exclaimed like she didn’t care in the slightest.

Hearing her cold words were enough to send Sabrina’s surging heart crashing down in the deepest oceans.

Her eyes then hopefully shifted to Shaan, but then quickly realising that this boy only joined recently and lacked any substantial combat power, all her hopes were extinguished.

Clenching her fist and making a hurt face, she slowly turned around to face the three traitors.

Seeing her deflated figure, Mark, Luther and Leona were full of smiles, but before the situation could progress any further, Shaan....feeling bored, interrupted them.

"Hey, I don’t care if you guys fight to death, but I have an important deal that you don’t want to miss!"
