Sir, Please Sign Here to Get a Divorce-Chapter 128: You Are a Bad Dad
Quinn Gardner parked his car in the courtyard, got out, and asked Serena Yardley,
"Is the boy here with you?"
Serena Yardley’s eyes darted nervously. She gestured toward the house. "Yes, Leo’s inside. Why don’t you go in and see him?"
Without a second thought, Quinn Gardner strode up the steps and into the villa.
Serena Yardley followed close behind and quickly locked the door.
As Quinn Gardner walked into the house, he immediately saw the people sitting on the living room sofa.
Ethan Yardley, Julian Thorne, Nina Thorne... and his own five-year-old son.
Rooted to the spot, Quinn Gardner was suddenly struck by an ominous feeling.
’It feels like I’ve walked into a trap.’
He turned to leave, but Serena Yardley walked over, smiling. "Mr. Grant, come on in. Go wash up. It’s time to eat."
With no other choice, Quinn Gardner braced himself and walked toward the living room.
Standing a short distance away, he pretended not to see anyone else and called out only to Leo Thorne, "Leo, come here. Daddy has a little gift for you."
Leo Thorne scrambled closer to his mother, glaring warily at Quinn Gardner as he shouted angrily,
"You’re not my daddy! You’re a bad man!"
The words "bad man" were a dagger to Quinn Gardner’s heart.
He looked at his wife and, finally steeling himself, called out, "Honey."
Nina Thorne remained perfectly composed, offering a faint smile.
"Mr. Grant, please don’t call me that. I’m not worthy of the title. Since you’re here, come and sign the papers. Then we can have a proper farewell dinner."
She pulled out the Divorce Agreement, placed it on the coffee table, and gestured for him to come over.
Quinn Gardner stared at the document. The sight of it was piercing.
He shot a cold glare at Ethan Yardley out of the corner of his eye.
He seemed to be blaming Ethan for conspiring against him with everyone else.
Ethan Yardley looked completely innocent as he stood up. "This is kind of a mood killer, don’t you think? Let’s eat first. We can talk about everything else after dinner."
"Sign first. It only takes a few seconds."
Julian Thorne, his own attitude far from friendly, stood up, brought the agreement and a pen over to Quinn Gardner, and thrust them at him.
Quinn Gardner didn’t take them. He pressed his lips together, glancing from Julian Thorne to Nina Thorne in the distance.
"Do you all have to do this?"
"What do you mean, ’do we have to do this’? Quinn Gardner, you’d better wise up and sign these papers, or you’re not leaving this house today."
Julian Thorne’s tone was aggressive and unrelenting.
If it weren’t for the child in the room, he would have killed the man on the spot.
’He dared to bully my sister. Does he really think the Thorne Family is a pushover?’
"I’m not signing anything. And I am absolutely not getting a divorce."
Utterly disregarding them, Quinn Gardner turned and headed for the restroom.
Julian Thorne clenched his fists, ready to lunge at him, but Ethan Yardley suddenly stepped in his way, fixing him with a piercing stare.
"Before you do anything, take a look at where you are."
The implication was clear: this was not the Thorne Family estate, and not a place where he could act so brazenly.
"Get out of my way."
Serena Yardley pushed Ethan Yardley aside and tried to placate the furious Julian Thorne. "Julian, calm down. We’ll talk after we eat. In any case, he’s not going anywhere tonight."
Nina Thorne also rose to her feet. "Julian, let’s just eat first. After dinner, you can take Leo home. I’ll talk to him."
Julian Thorne was seething, holding back his rage.
If everyone hadn’t been holding him back, he would have beaten Quinn Gardner to a pulp.
Finally, with no other choice, he put down the Divorce Agreement and headed to the dining room.
Serena Yardley leaned close to Nina Thorne and whispered, "If this doesn’t work, we could get him drunk and make him sign with his own hand."
Nina Thorne raised a hand and patted her head. "Only you would think of something like that."
’What’s the use of just a signature? We’d still have to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to finalize it.’
They couldn’t beat Quinn Gardner by force, so she’d have to try a softer approach.
Seeing that her suggestion wasn’t helpful, Serena Yardley took Leo Thorne by the hand and led him to the dining room.
Everyone gathered around the dining table. A hot pot bubbled in the center, its rich aroma filling the air.
Mrs. Miller stood nearby and asked Ethan Yardley, "Sir, shall I serve some wine?"
Ethan Yardley knew this wasn’t an occasion for drinking. "Just juice is fine," he said casually. "We won’t need any wine."
"Very well."
Mrs. Miller poured juice for everyone.
Soon, Quinn Gardner returned from the restroom and sat down beside Nina Thorne.
His gaze shifted from his son to his wife. He said nothing, but his heart was a maelstrom of emotions.
As they began to eat, he served his son the first piece of food. "Eat up, Leo," he said in a low voice.
But Leo just pushed the meat away in disgust, glared at him, and shouted,
"You’re a bad daddy! I don’t want to eat your food! I hate you, so don’t talk to me!"
Children speak their minds without filter, but every word was a needle piercing Quinn Gardner’s heart.
Swallowing the pain, he served some food to Nina Thorne beside him. "Honey, you eat up, too."
To his surprise, Nina Thorne replied amiably, "Thank you. You too."
Hearing this, Quinn Gardner was taken aback, his bloodshot eyes fixed on her.
But Nina Thorne didn’t look at him. She just ate and spoke with Serena Yardley, a smile on her face.
"Nina, how’s the hot pot? It’s delicious, isn’t it?"
"Yes, it’s very good."
"Then we’ll have to do this again sometime."
"Sounds good."
"Miss Serena, invite me over again next time! I love your cooking!"
The little boy’s mouth was slick with grease as he tilted his head up to smile at Serena Yardley, looking both comical and adorable.
Serena Yardley laughed along with him. "Of course! From now on, whenever Leo wants to eat, I’ll cook for you every single day, how about that?"
"Yay, yay! Miss Serena, I love you!"
With that, the little boy made a finger heart at Serena Yardley, looking unbelievably cute.
Serena Yardley returned the gesture, feeling her heart melt at his sweetness.
Watching from the side, Ethan Yardley felt a pang in his chest.
He cleared his throat. "I can’t even bear to have you cook for me, yet you’re going to cook for this little tyke every day?"
Serena Yardley ignored him.
’This guy is so much trouble,’ she thought. ’Kids are so much more fun. So sweet and cute, I could die.’
Seeing Serena ignore him, Ethan Yardley could only lower his head and focus on his food.
But after only a couple of bites, he started to feel sick again.
He felt nauseous.
He quickly took a sip of his juice to settle his stomach.
He forced down two more bites, but it was no use. He stood up and went to the restroom.
Everyone watched him go, their faces filled with puzzlement.
Nina Thorne asked, "What’s wrong with him?"
Serena Yardley shook her head. "I’m not sure. I think he’s sick."
When Ethan Yardley came out of the restroom, Serena Yardley asked, "What’s the matter with you? Are you feeling unwell?"
"COUGH. It’s nothing."
Ethan Yardley raised a hand, gesturing to the others who were staring at him. "Why are you all frozen? Eat."
"If you’re not well, you should see a doctor. I’ve noticed you’ve lost weight recently," Quinn Gardner remarked.
"See? I told him he’s lost weight, but he keeps insisting he’s fine."
Serena Yardley muttered.
Nina Thorne nodded. "I think so, too."
Julian Thorne, however, chimed in with a sarcastic tone, "You can’t let anything happen to you, Ethan. With a company as big as the Yardley Family, what would we do if something happened to you?"
Ethan Yardley shot him a cold look. "Don’t worry. I’ll still be around long after something’s happened to you."
Julian Thorne just snorted and said nothing more.
His gaze swept over to Quinn Gardner, sharp enough to cut.
Quinn Gardner pretended not to notice.
After dinner, Nina Thorne signaled for her brother to take the child home.
Feeling it was inappropriate to stay at Ethan’s home, she took the initiative and approached Quinn Gardner. "Let’s go out and have a proper talk."
Quinn Gardner didn’t refuse.
As they were about to leave, Serena Yardley pulled Nina Thorne aside. "Nina, you’re just going to go out with him like this? What if he refuses to cooperate?"
"It’s fine. Even if we kept him locked up here, we couldn’t do much if he refused to cooperate. I have my own methods. Don’t worry."
"All right, then. Call me if you need anything. Don’t let him push you around."
Serena Yardley urged.
Nina Thorne gratefully patted her on the head, then followed Quinn Gardner out the door.
