Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Unwilling to Give Birth Even If Pregnant

Watching Serena lose her temper at him over the pregnancy, Ethan Yardley knew she was going to cause a scene again.

His expression grew solemn as he reached out to clasp her hand. "Serena, it was just an accident."

"How can there be so many ’accidents’? You did it on purpose."

Serena shook his hand off, got up, and walked away.

Seeing her go upstairs, Ethan got up and followed, speaking softly. "Don’t get upset yet. Can we go to the hospital to check? What if you’re mistaken?"

’What if it’s a false pregnancy?’

’Can you really get pregnant just by feeling like it?’

Ethan didn’t think it would be that easy.

She’d just had a miscarriage not long ago. Besides, the doctor had told him she was very weak, and the medical abortion had been so damaging to her body that getting pregnant again would likely be difficult.

That was why he’d figured that if it was so difficult for her to conceive, it would be fine to not use protection.

’And if she really did get pregnant, wouldn’t that be even better?’

Besides, a child would solidify her position with the family elders.

"If you want to go, go by yourself. I don’t want to talk to you right now."

She walked into the room and started packing a suitcase.

Watching her pack, Ethan stepped forward and grabbed her wrist. "Serena, what are you doing?"

Serena shook his hand off and continued packing.

"I should have listened to Sylvia from the very beginning instead of believing your lies. In your eyes, I’m nothing but a baby-making machine."

"But I’m telling you, I will never give you what you want."

"..."

Her words pierced Ethan’s heart like a needle.

He stood there, watching her pack her things. His expression darkened, and his voice became incredibly cold.

"Then what do you want?"

Serena looked up at him, her face growing even colder. "I’m not having your children. I told you that from the very beginning."

Ethan’s eyes stung as if sand had gotten in them, and his chest felt tight. "If you really are pregnant, are you going to... get rid of it?"

"Yes."

Her answer was resolute.

Ethan staggered, unconsciously taking a step back.

He struggled to suppress the ache in his chest and tried to talk to her calmly.

"Serena, don’t be like this. We’re a legally married couple. Shouldn’t a baby be a wonderful surprise?"

"Do you even consider me your wife?"

Serena shot up to her feet and glared at him, shouting hysterically:

"Have you ever once respected my wishes? I don’t even know why I forgot about you before, and I don’t know what you did to me."

"I have no trust in you! You clearly promised me you wouldn’t care if I didn’t have children, but what happened? You lied to me, you schemed against me."

She had believed Sylvia’s words without a doubt.

’And now, after such a short time, I’m pregnant. Doesn’t this just prove that everything Sylvia said was true?’

She was terrified now.

She was afraid that once she gave birth to his child, she would be cast aside like an old shoe.

’It’s better to get far away from him now than to be abandoned later. Leaving on my own terms is more dignified than being thrown away by him in the future.’

Sobbing, Serena continued to pack her suitcase.

Ethan stood frozen in place, his body ramrod straight.

"I admit, I wanted you to get pregnant. I wanted you to have a child for me. But if you absolutely refuse, there’s nothing I can do. It’ll just be difficult to deal with the family later on."

"Now that it’s happened, just endure it and have the baby. Then no one will ever pressure us again. Can’t we just keep being happy like this? Wouldn’t that be better?"

’She was an adult; she couldn’t be unaware of what a child meant for a marriage.’

Besides, with her unique background, a child was her security, a way to keep the family from targeting her in the future.

He was just trying to save them from unnecessary trouble down the road.

"If you want a baby, have one yourself, or find someone else to have one for you. When you find a woman willing to give birth for you, then you can come to me for a divorce."

Her mind was in a turmoil; she couldn’t calm down enough to think.

She zipped the suitcase shut and started to drag it away.

Ethan moved to block her. "Serena, don’t be like this."

"Get out of my way," she glared at him, her eyes red.

How could Ethan let her leave while she was pregnant? He looked down at her, lowering his pride to the point of almost begging.

"I believe you love me, too. So, can’t you just have this one for me?"

"Just this one. I promise I’ll never make you have another."

Serena wouldn’t yield and tried to walk around him.

Ethan reached out and pulled her into a hug. "Serena, be good."

"Ethan Yardley, let go of me! I don’t believe a single word you’re saying right now, and I don’t want to hear it. If you insist on forcing me, I can’t imagine what I might do."

She raised her hands and shoved at his chest.

Ethan held on tightly, refusing to let go. He lowered his head to her ear, coaxing her softly as if she were a child.

"My Serena loves me so much, how could you not want to have my baby? Just this one, all right?"

"As long as my Serena is willing to have this baby, I’ll do anything you ask."

"Good girl, Serena~~ Don’t act up. I know you love children. You like Leo so much, so how could you bear to get rid of your own child?"

"Be good~~~ My Serena is the best girl~~~"

He held her against his chest and stroked her head, his voice soft and his touch gentle and careful.

Serena couldn’t push him away. With her face pressed against his chest, tears streamed down uncontrollably.

She didn’t know why she was so resistant to having a child.

It was as if having a child gave her no sense of security.

She was scared.

She closed her eyes, trying to force herself to calm down, to stop causing trouble.

But she found that the more she tried to suppress her feelings, the worse she felt.

Her head, especially, throbbed with a splitting pain.

In a daze, fragmented images surfaced in her mind.

"I’ll marry you after she gives birth to my child. Two years, at the latest."

"In that case, Ethan, I’ll wait for you for two more years. After two years, you have to divorce her, whether she’s had your child or not."

’Two years... a deadline?’ 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Serena shook her head, her mind clearing.

She remembered something.

She remembered.

She remembered when she had been pregnant before. She had been about to tell him, full of joy, but then she overheard his conversation with Sylvia in the study.

’Ethan Yardley just wanted her to have a child, and once she did, he would divorce her.’

’That was why he was so desperate to get her pregnant within the year.’

’So that was it.’

The memories were fragmented, but that one detail was enough. It proved the man beside her didn’t love her; all he wanted was a child.

At this thought, Serena was overcome with grief and bitterness.

She shoved the man away with all her strength, glaring at him with pure hatred as she yelled:

"Listen to me, Ethan Yardley! I will not have your child! Even if I’m pregnant, I won’t go through with it. So you can give up that idea right now!"

At that moment, she felt a tearing pain in her heart.

She could even feel the same despair and helplessness she’d felt standing at the study door back then.

She felt awful. Her head was killing her.

She squatted down, clutching her head, which felt like it was about to explode. She wanted to smash it against the wall.

Listening to her words, watching her crouch and curl into a ball on the floor, Ethan stood frozen. His eyes were completely bloodshot.

He had never imagined this woman could be so ruthless.

’She wouldn’t even carry the baby to term.’

A suffocating tightness suddenly seized his chest, making it hard to breathe. An expression of anguish twisted his features as he finally left her with one last line:

"Let’s both calm down. Think it over carefully. Don’t make a decision until you have."
