Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Frenzied Sylvia Schuyler

Serena Yardley’s gaze fell on Ethan Yardley again.

She studied him carefully, trying her best to remember, but her head started to hurt before she could even begin.

She shook her head in discomfort. "I don’t remember you. My head hurts so much."

Seeing her headache return, Ethan grew tense and almost reached out to touch her.

But Julian Thorne beat him to it, gently reassuring Serena Yardley,

"Okay, okay. If you can’t remember, let’s not think about it. Don’t think about it, Serena. If you don’t think, it won’t hurt."

Serena Yardley nodded, looking a bit sleepy. "Julian, tell him to leave. I want to rest."

"Alright. If you’re not feeling well, you should rest, Serena."

Julian Thorne glanced back at Ethan Yardley, motioning for him to leave.

Ethan had no other choice but to leave for now.

But every time, he would just sit by the door, refusing to go anywhere else.

When there were truly urgent company documents that needed his signature, Yannick Young would bring them over.

Staying at the hospital, Ethan Yardley hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in days, nor had he showered.

He paid no mind to his appearance at all. His stubble had grown out considerably.

It wasn’t until the day before Serena Yardley was scheduled to be discharged that he finally went home to clean himself up.

He also had Mrs. Miller gather everything related to him, put it in a room, and lock it up so Serena wouldn’t see any of it.

He didn’t dare do a single thing that might upset her now.

After everything was taken care of, Ethan Yardley drove to the hospital early the next morning, planning to accompany Julian Thorne to pick up Serena.

Who would have thought that just as he was driving out of the villa, he would run into Sylvia Schuyler.

Ethan Yardley rolled down his window and looked at the woman standing a short distance away. "What are you doing here?"

Ever since she found out Serena Yardley hadn’t died, Sylvia Schuyler had been in hiding.

Later, she sent someone to the hospital to ask around and learned that Serena Yardley had lost her memory.

Because of her amnesia, she didn’t know what had happened by the river that day. That’s why she hadn’t told Ethan Yardley the truth, and why he hadn’t continued to investigate.

It was just like now; she was standing right in front of Ethan Yardley, yet he wasn’t questioning her about anything.

’So, I, Sylvia Schuyler, still have a chance.’

Walking up to the car, Sylvia Schuyler said,

"Ethan, I know you’re worried about what happened to Serena Yardley, but you can’t just focus on her and ignore me."

Ethan Yardley averted his gaze and said coldly, "Sylvia, I told you, I’m not going to marry you."

Before, he thought his feelings for Serena were just pity, a desire to take care of her.

But after her accident, he realized just how much he cared for her.

He now understood what his heart truly wanted, and he couldn’t keep making the same mistake.

As for Sylvia Schuyler, he could give her anything she wanted, except marriage.

"You won’t marry me, I can accept that. But you should at least let me stay by your side, right?"

Sylvia Schuyler’s face crumpled as if about to cry, and she put on a frail, delicate act.

"Ethan, I really love you. I don’t want to leave you. Even if I can’t be your wife, I’m willing to stay by your side. Please don’t send me away, okay?"

’Serena Yardley has someone with her every day now. My people can’t get to her.’

’So I have to do it myself.’

’How can I rest until Serena Yardley is dead?’

The one thing Ethan Yardley couldn’t stand was seeing other women cry in front of him.

Immensely irritated, he told Sylvia Schuyler, "You can come work at my company as my secretary, but don’t ever come to this place again."

This was the biggest concession he could make.

"So we can only be boss and subordinate from now on?"

’I’m the eldest daughter of the Schuyler Family. How could I be willing to work as his secretary?’

’I’m meant to be Mrs. Yardley.’

Sylvia Schuyler was not resigned to this.

Ethan Yardley said, "Didn’t you insist on staying by my side? Then go to my company. As for the rest, you’ll follow my arrangements."

’In any case, this woman can no longer be a part of my personal life.’

’Serena would get angry.’

Sylvia Schuyler couldn’t help but start crying and complaining again.

"Ethan, why can you be so accommodating and forgiving with Serena Yardley, but so heartless with me? If you hadn’t hit me with your car back then, why would I be here now, begging you so humbly?

You can’t treat me like this. You’re the one who wronged me first."

She knew this man had his principles and never wanted to be indebted to anyone.

’But what can be done? He *is* indebted to me.’

’And if he doesn’t repay this debt, I, Sylvia Schuyler, will never let him go for the rest of my life.’

Ethan Yardley glanced impatiently at his watch.

Done with the pointless conversation, he started the engine and threw out one last sentence:

"It’s just as I said. Either follow my arrangements, or disappear from my world."

As soon as the words left his mouth, he stepped on the gas and drove off.

Sylvia Schuyler chased after him for a couple of steps, then stopped. Watching the car rapidly disappear, she let out a laugh, her eyes filled with hatred.

"HAHAHA... The more you care about something, the more I’ll enjoy destroying it.

I’d like to see just how many lives that Serena Yardley has."

「 」

Serena Yardley had finally recovered enough to be discharged from the hospital.

She stood by the window in her hospital room, snacking while she watched Julian Thorne pack for her.

Once Julian Thorne was done, he gestured to her. "Let’s go, Serena. We’re going home."

"Okay."

Serena Yardley smiled and walked over to Julian Thorne, even feeding him a piece of the snack she was holding.

Julian Thorne played along and ate it.

Their actions were intimate. As they walked out of the hospital room, they happened to run into Ethan Yardley.

Ethan Yardley saw Serena Yardley feed Julian Thorne, and a sudden pang of bitterness shot through his heart.

But he suppressed his discomfort and walked up to them, asking, "Is all the paperwork done?"

"Yes, it’s all done."

"Then let’s go."

Ethan Yardley took the luggage from Julian Thorne’s hands and led them toward the elevators.

Seeing Ethan Yardley again, Serena Yardley felt a little annoyed.

She leaned close to Julian Thorne and asked in a low voice, "Is he here to pick us up?"

"That’s right."

"Are you and he very close, Julian?"

Serena Yardley asked while sizing up Ethan Yardley.

’He seems a lot better-looking than before.’

’Before, he was all scruffy and haggard, with heavy dark circles under his eyes and sunken cheeks.’

’I haven’t seen him for a few days, and it’s like he’s a completely different person.’

’He stood tall and handsome in a casual suit, his beard was gone, and his chiseled face was flawless. His whole aura seemed much better too.’

Julian Thorne played along, whispering into Serena Yardley’s ear,

"He’s like an older brother to me, a very capable man. If you’re interested, I can tell you all about him later?"

Serena Yardley quickly shook her head. "I’m not interested at all. Why would I be interested in a stranger?"

As they stepped into the elevator, the space was so small that even though Serena Yardley’s voice was low, Ethan Yardley still heard what she said.

He remained silent, standing beside her and Julian Thorne like a bodyguard.

After leaving the hospital building, the three of them got into the car.

Ethan Yardley acted as the driver, while Serena Yardley and Julian Thorne sat in the back.

As the car drove off, Serena Yardley took the initiative to link her arm with Julian Thorne’s, pouting as she asked,

"Julian, didn’t you tell me before that you’d take me on a trip during my break? School is about to start, so how come you haven’t taken me yet?"

’Men and their promises are always unreliable.’

’I won’t believe him next time.’

Julian Thorne was at a loss for words.

He cast a doubtful glance at Ethan Yardley, who was driving.

Ethan Yardley also looked at Julian Thorne through the rearview mirror.

He remembered clearly that *he* was the one who said he would take Serena out to relax.

He never imagined she would completely mistake Julian Thorne for him.

And here he was, having to endure the discomfort in his heart as he watched his girl lean on another man.

Julian Thorne smiled and patted Serena Yardley’s head.

"Then how about we go this weekend? Is there anywhere in particular you want to go, Serena?"

Serena Yardley beamed. "Yes! I want to go to the beach."

"Alright, then I’ll take you to the beach, Serena."

"Really?"

Overjoyed, Serena Yardley leaned her head on Julian Thorne’s shoulder and smiled. "You’re the best, Julian."
