Sky-cracking Rider-Chapter 754: Section 749 - Hallucinations
Each family sweeps the snow from their own doorstep; why should they worry about the frost on their neighbor's roof? Bartona's explanation barely passed muster. After all, he was only the Commander of the Southern War Zone, and had no say over someone else's patch of land.
"The Blue Star Civilization is about to face its doomsday, do you know about this?"
Chen Fei shifted the topic, bringing up a certain "prophecy".
"The doomsday of Blue Star?"
Bartona frowned; he was not only a person from the Zilu Continent but also a former citizen of the Tessa Empire and a Cangqiong Star person. Even though they were currently in a delicate state of war equilibrium (stalemate) with the Slan Dynasty's forces, it was unlikely to have any entanglement with the Blue Star Civilization; for them to come to Cangqiong Star was no easy feat.
After all, the cross-dimensional gate management system dictated that to traverse between planes, one must obtain permission from both civilizations before passage can be granted.
"A high-probability event!"
The Magical Beast "Mystic Fog Specter," inside of which resided the Parasitic Species "Taga," transmitted a thought, confirming the matter, and evidently knew some secrets not known to the public.
"How do you know this? Wait, what's this 'Taga' all about?"
Bartona was startled; he turned out to be the last to know in the room.
Now that Blue Star and Cangqiong Star were connected through the Dimensional Gate, establishing a certain relationship, one could say it was a shared fate for glory or disaster.
If the Blue Star Civilization were to encounter doomsday, the fate of the Cangqiong Star Civilization would hardly be any better.
"It's a prophecy!"
Chen Fei sat on the couch, with the "Godslaying Spear" laid across his lap.
Before Louis Landon was prepared to witness a significant turning point in history, there weren't many who knew of the "Doomsday Prophecy"—in fact, they did not number more than five.
Now, as expected, the rebellion burst forth in Cangqiong Star's Zilu Continent. The Rebel Army also attacked the Ground Portal Management Substation in the suburbs of Nandu City. However, because someone intervened to create variables, it did not fall as prophesied.
The core of the Dimensional Gate, the plane coordinates "Longinus," also did not fall into the hands of the Rebel Army—or more accurately, the hands of the Parasitic Species.
But the shadow of "doomsday" had not been lifted. To put it accurately, as long as the Parasitic Species still existed, the Blue Star Civilization would still encounter the real doomsday.
Bartona said thoughtfully, "Prophecy? Indeed, that is the work of supernatural powers!"
The special abilities of Blue Star were strange and varied, so it was not surprising to occasionally see one or two supernatural power users with the ability to prophesy.
Even on Cangqiong Star, there were one or two individuals in history who possessed the ability to prophesy, but now it's impossible to confirm whether it was some kind of spell or curse magic, or a natural gift.
The Magical Beast "Mystic Fog Specter" suddenly spoke up: "What does the doomsday of the Blue Star Civilization have to do with us on Cangqiong Star!"
The way of speaking and the tone left no doubt that it was the original will of the host "Langes".
"The fate of Blue Star and Cangqiong Star is interlinked; if the Blue Star Civilization perishes, it would be difficult for Cangqiong Star to stand alone," Chen Fei speculated, although how the Cangqiong Star Civilization would end up was not mentioned in the prophecy of the bigwigs. But one could guess, it probably wouldn't be good.
"Not necessarily!"
"Langes" expressed disagreement.
Cangqiong Star has been fighting against the Extraterrestrial Races "Sagali" for a hundred thousand years, and the predecessors fighting on the front line are still alive. Even if the Parasitic Species make a comeback, Cangqiong Star Civilization won't fall into chaos, hence "Langes" didn't share the same concerns as Chen Fei and Louis Landon.
Deal with water by piling up earth against it, deal with soldiers by mustering your own; if the Parasitic Species come, at the Heavenly Order level, worst comes to worst, just do it all over again.
"Chen Fei is right!"
A pulse of spiritual power swept through, and to everyone's surprise, the Parasitic Species "Taga," residing in the "Mystic Fog Specter," disagreed with its host "Langes."
Before this, the personalities and rhythms of both were almost as one, talking as if asking and answering themselves. But now, the difference between "Taga" and "Langes" became immediately evident.
This distinction stemmed from their respective stances,
"Langes," as an Intelligent Species of the Cangqiong Star Civilization, contrasted with "Taga," representing the Extraterrestrial Race "Sagali." The former was content with their strength in resisting the Parasitic Species, while the latter was acutely aware of the Parasitic Species' invasion details of both civilizations, and even if not knowing the finer details, it was privy to some unknown secrets.
"Though I don't want to admit it, I am more inclined to believe 'Taga.' In the face of the civilization's doomsday, no one can remain unaffected."
Bartona, the Commander of the Tessa Empire Restoration Army Southern War Zone, was able to understand why a young man from Blue Star would rush around alone, and even dare to venture alone into the tiger's den (Southern War Zone Headquarters). The ancient alliances of Cangqiong Star bind all Intelligent Species together. As a member of the Cangqiong Star People and Intelligent Species, he had a clear understanding of how a situation affects everything.
"Alright! Let's treat it as if doomsday will really happen,"
said the host "Langes" of Magical Beast "Mystic Fog Specter," with no intention of arguing.
"Bartona, it seems your invitation was quite prescient. I didn't expect such a reward."
A flicker of thought transmission passed by, a message entered everyone's mind—this was the Parasitic Species "Taga" "speaking."
With a light laugh, Bartona said, "I was just a bit interested in this young friend, I didn't expect him to actually dare to come."
"So, can you provide me with some information?"
Since neither party could start a fight at the moment, Chen Fei simply came up with another idea.
"Uh..."
The old man looked toward the Magical Beast.
Spike after spike, with threads on their surfaces, began to tremble slightly again.
"As an outlier within my species, I cannot actively provide information."
"Taga" was clearly somewhat apprehensive.
It was not only a unique creature in the "Sagali" race with unusual thoughts but also a rare one that had established communication with other Intelligent Species.
Once its actions and thoughts were exposed within its species, its fate would probably not be much better than those races that had been tragically devoured and extinguished from the "planetary dining table."
"Very well, I'll ask, and you answer!"
Chen Fei accurately grasped another layer of meaning in the other party's seemingly refusal.
He immediately turned his gaze to Bartona and said, "The same goes for your side."
The other party was able to identify his origin in one sentence, and accurately grasp his whereabouts. Apart from being betrayed by the local Mercenary Guild, there might be other unknown channels of intelligence, and it was very possible that there were spies even within the Imperial Security Department of the Slan Dynasty.
Otherwise, he couldn't possibly be entirely exposed under the other party's sight.
"Hehe!"
Bartona let out an enigmatic chuckle like a sly fox.
The subtext was easy to guess: I'll answer if I feel like it, but asking won't help if I don't.
This was the home field of the Southern War Zone, and the Commander indeed had the natural advantage. If they didn't start a fight, it would be difficult for Chen Fei to pin him down.
"How many 'Seed Nests' are there on the continent of Zilu and on Cangqiong Star?"
Chen Fei's first question went straight to the core of the Parasitic Species, the "Seed Nest."
As long as the "Seed Nest" still existed, the Parasitic Species could always have the chance of a resurgence.
Now that the Parasitic Species had reappeared on Cangqiong Star, it was likely related to the long-hidden "Seed Nest."
"You actually know about 'Seed Nests,' it seems you've done quite a bit of homework."
A hint of surprise tinged Taga's telepathically transmitted voice.
"What is a 'Seed Nest'?"
Bartona furrowed his brows, hearing this term for the first time, puzzled as he looked toward the "Mystic Fog Specter." It seemed that the Parasitic Species had not disclosed everything to him.
Sensing the change in Bartona's emotion, "Taga" frankly said, "My friend, you probably don't want to know!"
Chen Fei thought for a moment and then added, "That's right, a 'Seed Nest' is a nightmare. Until you're ready to make a decision, ignorance is bliss."
If it hadn't been for his personal experience, he could never have imagined what a "Seed Nest" truly was before this – a "Cage," a "Terror Biochemical Laboratory," a "Slaughterhouse," a "Demon's Lair," the "Root of All Evil," the "Origin of the Apocalypse"...
For a civilization, the existence of a "Seed Nest" is like a Sword of Damocles hanging overhead, ready to bring catastrophe at any moment.
"Damn it! Can you two speak clearly?"
Bartona didn't want to listen to Taga and Chen Fei speaking in riddles, leaving him out in the cold like a fool – he had the right to know the truth.
No sooner had his words fallen than the world in front of his eyes dramatically changed, and he found himself floating in a mild yellow, pristine fluid.
Surrounding him were dense hexagonal "Beehives" of various sizes, with grotesque creatures roaming the fluid. Each "Beehive" seemed to harbor a living thing; the silhouettes projected by their internal light revealed their bizarre and varied shapes. Some moved slowly, some darted up and down, others wildly flailed their limbs in a ferocious dance. Some seemed to be enduring immense pain, their outlines changing visibly. Some, without any warning, exploded into a mass of pulp, and the nearby roaming odd creatures dove in, as if gorging. When these creatures came out, their forms had grown larger.
Time was lost until the world shifted back to normal, and the hall came back into view.
Unable to help himself, Bartona gasped for air, his voice now hoarser.
"Taga, what was that?"
"Seed Nest!"
Taga's telepathic voice carried no hint of emotional fluctuation.
The sight that Bartona had just seen was the effect of a Psychic Series Spell, an illusion that existed in reality and presented in a way almost akin to reality, more impactful than a thousand words could describe.
The gem on Chen Fei's "Soul Guarding Seal" dimmed once more, having intercepted the psychic illusion that had reached the level of a spiritual power attack. He did not fall into the illusion but witnessed it in solitude.
"It's simply... too horrifying!"
The dense "Beehives," which likely numbered over ten thousand, sent shivers down Bartona's spine just remembering them.
