Sleeping With The CEO-Chapter 345: Again
Chapter 345: Again fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
A lot of people agreed that in life the two constants that you could count on were death and taxes. But as far as Marge Pierce was concerned There was another constant that many often overlooked.
And it was the fact that people always found ways to mess up and ruin even activities that had been started with the purest of intentions. Often when such things happened crimes were being committed. People lied, they cheated, they stole.
No matter the weather, cold, hot, rainy, dry, even windy, there was always someone doing something to break the law. Which meant that every single hour of the day, there was a criminal offence being reported at police stations around the world.
But just because crimes were reported, it did not mean that they all got the same amount of attention. It was not a truth that most people liked hearing.
But it was something that was true. The police were people too. They often did their best to solve cases but there were some cases that they gave special attention to. Any officer who said that they did not do that was a big fat liar.
Cases like those with high profile people, celebrities, politicians, diplomats, those got a lot of attention. Mostly because such cases brought a lot of attention.
But the cases that also received special care were those that involved children. Another one that officers often paid special attention to was serial killers. When it came to those guys a lot of people chipped in. Trying their best to get the monsters off the streets, as quickly as possible. Trying to prevent more people from becoming victims. After those cases, there existed another section that determined the swiftness and the dedication with which a case was approached. And that was whether or not it struck a chord with the detective investigating it.
Different officers had various cases that just reignited their spark. Cases that made them want to give one hundred and ten percent all the time whenever they came across similar cases. For some it was when pedophiles were involved. For others it was rapes. Some went all in when it came to murders. Then there were those who could not let drug cases go until arrests were made.
For Marge, the cases that got a reaction out of her, were the cold ones. The unsolved cases of her long career bothered her. often waking her up in the middle of the night. Especially the ones that she could not solve personally. Anything and everything that involved those cases she wanted to know.
During those times when they disturbed her sleep. She would wake up wishing for something, anything, to pop up in regards to the investigation so that she could throw herself into it once more, and hopefully manage to solve it.
But when she had been hoping for new developments. The current progress in the Haven-Molson case was not at all what Marge had been thinking of.
Derek Haven and Emily Molson were missing.
That on its own would have been a cause for alarm. But they had gone missing right at the bridge where their fathers had died. That would have been suspicious enough on its own. But then when Marge -after forcefully making sure that she too was included in the search party- had finally gotten her way.
She had realised something the moment that they had arrived at the scene. They had not just vanished on the bridge. They had disappeared on the exact spot of the Haven-Molson case that included them and their fathers. Derek’s car was placed right in front of where his father’s car had fallen off the bridge 20 years before.
That realization had awakened Marge’s decades old obsession with the case. But before that had come the guilt.
For a split second, Marge had blamed herself. Their mothers might not have been told. But the possibility of suicide had been brought up.
She had thought that maybe seeing the pictures had pushed Derek and Emily over the edge, and they had decided to take their own lives. But then logic had kicked in.
She might have given them the pictures of the ruined bridge back then. But it was a large structure, and every section looked identical to the other. There was no way that Derek and Emily could have known the significance of the exact spot where they were parked.
Which meant that there was a high chance that someone had been there. Someone who had also been there twenty years ago as well. Only this time, they had been smart enough not to leave any tracks.
After decades of nothing but radio silence, Marge had realised that she had a possible breakin the case. The one thing that she had been hoping for all along.
But it had come at a heavy cost. Not only that, she could not immediately jump up and begin investigating it. She had to find Derek and Emily first. To ensure that the fate that befell their fathers would not repeat itself with them. So rather than going and looking up the new information. Marge was instead at the scene where Derek and Emily had disappeared.
Despite her advanced age, she was not in the command tent. She was in the thick of things, searching for Derek and Emily with everyone else.
Helicopters flew up ahead, but Marge was in one of the boats. The water spraying her face. The wind battering her from all sides. But she barely noticed, eyes on the waters, scanning them and also looking over at the various sharp rocks that had been cut out from the landscape by the erosion that the waters brought.
So far, no one had found anything and the longer the situation persisted. The less likely Emily and Derek were to make it, but they had survived worse before. And Marge would not be counting them out just yet.
She really hoped that they would make it out of this alive.
