Chapter 27: Shiki

Undead feared light, and the principle behind my flashbombs used the mana inside of a light crystal to cause an explosion of light. A flashbomb was thrown upstairs, several screams came back down and many of the HP bars disappeared.

“That’s such a useful item, which magic store did you buy it from?”

Melody exclaimed.

“It had been given to by a member of the church I had known in the past. It isn’t for sale.”

Well, that wasn’t actually the case, but it wasn’t too different from the truth. Only I can use the flash in large quantities as I was the person making the light crystals.

I don’t know how many can be made with this body’s magical volume. Flash is one of the less advanced spells after all.

“So that’s it, it’s light magic.”

Melody nodded in understanding.

I could only bitterly smile. Although I can use flash and other magics that are effective against the undead, but if I tried to use them with my current identity then I would have to explain

The less I do troublesome things like that the better. The saying goes, you can’t die if you don’t seek death.

At the same time I heard a familiar sound, it was the end of battle alert.

End of Battle

Hellguard defeated.

x3 Level Skipping Experience Gained 30000

Hellghost Defeated.

x7 Level Skipping Experience Gained 70000

Battle Conclusion Experience Gained 100000

High Quality Bone Knife Received

Ghost Stone Received

Level Up To LV 25

Well, I gained a knife and lost an tool. I didn’t expect to gain experience this fast. I skipped straight to level 25.

But leveling up didn’t help me that much. Because I have a warrior’s physique so the mana didn’t increase that much.

The biggest benefit is……the hp pool doesn’t look quite as small. It’s at least at the point where I won’t die to someone who can use arcane grade spells.

It’s also nice to know that some of the level restrictions have been removed. The super arcane spells for example. But I wouldn’t dare use them. Just using Tearing Cross caused a magic crystal to explode. If I used something else, the crystal wouldn’t just explode but I would experience backlash.

“It seems that the undead in the first floor and the hallway have been pretty much cleaned out.”

The battle conclusion had told me this, and after leveling up, the second and third levels of Phad’s Eye had opened up, letting me see much more.

The surroundings became clearer and the names and attributes of the undead upstairs were displayed, when they weren’t shown before.

I breathed a sigh of relief, when you are used to something it’s a really sad feeling when you lose it.

I’m talking about my ability of course. Not a part of my body.

“It seems we’ll have to clean it up floor by floor.”

Aliyah put her weapon away and turned to Melody.

“But your home is really luxurious and close to the school. Can I move in afterwords?”

“Hey hey, Aliyah, aren’t you being a bit too cheeky?”

“What cheekiness.”

Aliyah shrugged.

“I’m worried about Melody being lonely.”

“Is that so……that’s true.”

When I looked at Melody, she had a bitter expression on her face.

It’s true. Melody’s mother was turned into a death puppet by her father, and we were going to kill her father. If we did it her family would be gone.

“Is that ok Melody?

I asked her in concern.

“It’s ok…..just suddenly thinking about it, it feels……”

“Don’t worry! We’re still here!”

Aliyah suddenly proudly said.

“I promise that I will find a group of people to fill up your house.”

“That’s how you console people?”

I almost collapsed at this lady. Your brain is making abnormal leaps of logic! I have [Whatever Goes], why don’t you have [Wild Imagination]?

The moment I thought that, another title appeared on Aliyah.

【Imaginative】.

(TL: 脑洞大 – can also mean large brain hole)

……

I moved my gaze away. This isn’t my fault. It definitely isn’t my fault.

But……

There was a proud look on Aliyah’s face when she saw the title!

Oh my god. Are you giving up on treatment?

I can only pray in silence for a girl with such a large hole in her brain.

“It’s fine. Anyways……my home has been quiet for a long time……ever since my mother became a death puppet……”

Seeing Melody’s appearance, I quickly spoke.

“Go go, let’s go ahead. You take this, Oyado.”

Saying that, I handed her a flashbomb.

To be honest, I am worried about Oyado. Now that I have leveled up, Oyado is the one with the lowest health now. In addition, our enemies aren’t the physical type, so shouldn’t daggers and similar things be ineffective?

“Don’t worry, Elder Sister.”

Although Oyado said that, she still took the flashbomb.

“Although they are undead, as long as I can see their weaknesses I can destroy them.”

……

Why are you so embarrassed?

“It’s fine, don’t be so stubborn~”

When I said that I had a strange feeling.

I feel like……my tone is getting more and more feminine?

Although it isn’t bad for keeping my identity hidden, but……I feel like I’ll be in trouble if I get used to it.

“It’s ok. Come on, let’s go upstairs.”

As she said that she began walking towards the stairs.

“Although I came home every day, today it feels like I came to a different place. While it was deserted before, but……now it’s completely……”

“Doesn’t your family have any servants?”

I curiously asked.

“No.”

Melody replied as she walked with us.

“It was unnecessary because I lived here with my mother.

“Is that so.”

When Melody stepped onto the final step of the second I suddenly had an inexplicable sense of danger!

It wasn’t an attack warning or something else, but pure instinct that made me to rush to Melody, pick her up and jump back to the first floor.

Right after that a green claw slashed out of the floor of the second level and the area was covered in a strange fog.

After landing on the first floor, I put Melody down and looked back up.

A female zombie in white western clothes rose from the floor and watched us from inside a green glow.

“Mo……Mother……”

Melody’s voice trembled.

We also shuddered, because what was in front of us wasn’t a normal zombie.

“Well, Aliyah, if I’m not mistaken, this doesn’t seem like the usual stuff.”

“Yeah……I get……the same feeling……

“Yeah……it was created from using sorcery to raise a corpse……a shiki, huh?”

That’s right. It wasn’t the normal type of stiffly moving zombie in front of us, but a type of undead that often appeared in martial arts novels. A shiki, summoned from refining an undead.

The biggest difference is……the person here still has a soul! Even though they are dead!

“Now I understand why the technique was called eternal life. It didn’t turn a person into a puppet, rather it transforms them to survive death!”

I said bitterly.
