Solar Ascension-Chapter 139: Devon And Marion
"Hmm?" Devon let out as he appeared in a separate section of the lava biome, "where we at?"
His question was soon answered when Radiant Boar spoke up, informing them of the objective and two timers appeared above the core and circular platform.
"Aight," Devon muttered, turning to his teammate who just happened to be Marion, "what’s the plan?"
Marion had fully expected him to suddenly start flirting, but she guessed even he had moments where he was focused—
"Ah also," Devon spoke up again, "ain’t this technically our first date, I’m hyped."
Nevermind.
"I’ll acts as defense," Marion said, "I’ll restrain whatever threat comes at us, your job is to finish them off."
"Aight," Devon nodded, looking around the lava filled environment, " you lock ’em down, I put ’em in the ground. Easy work."
Marion nodded at his understanding before her hazel eyes turned to the timer, seeing that there was only a couple of seconds left.
"Get ready," She said as the timer quickly ticked down.
As if on cue, the lava streams around them started bubbling, rising and taking a humanoid shape.
"Damn, this is so cool," Devon muttered as the creatures fully formed, "I ain’t never thought I’d see golems in real life."
Of course he knew what these were, after all, he had multiple comics that featured them.
Marion, on the other hand, looked a bit confused as she asked, "golems? Is that another type of Eclipsed?"
"You ain’t never read a comic before," Devon asked, a bit surprised until he realized that comics weren’t exactly popular.
He had only met one other person interested in them in Solara Prime, and that was Nox.
"Not really," Marion shook her head.
"Aight," Devon nodded, "after this, I’mma teach you everything you need to know about comics."
They then refocused on the fully formed lava golems, who suddenly started moving the moment the waiting timer reached zero.
But before they could take more than a single step, they froze. Devon watched as Marion’s fingers twitched a bit as her strings firmly wrapped around the golems.
She then turned to Devon and said, "any minute now."
"My fault," he answered, as a grin appeared on his lips as his eyes and his eyes moved from her to the restrained golems, "just, admiring the view for a sec. Hard not to get distracted when you lookin’ like that under lava-light."
Marion’s brow twitched. "Devon."
"Aight, aight, I’m movin’," he laughed, already leaning forward as his SE was channeled into his boots before he launched himself forward.
BOOM!
A crater was created where he previously was the moment he launched forward. The golems barely had the chance to register the pebble coming towards them before they were all suddenly turned to rubble.
Devon stopped, a bit of smoke rising off his gauntlet as he had it to destroy the core of the golem’s in less than a second.
He then slowly lowered his fist and turned to the surprised Marion.
She had barely seen him move, one second he was standing close to her, the next, there was a pile of lava rubble with him standing on the other end.
This made her wonder whether he had held back during their fight, but the truth was, Devon hadn’t held back at all.
It was just that he had been sparring with that giant third that Nox fought ever since the tournament ended and the results were pretty visible.
Before they could say anything, the lava started bubbling, as assive shapes started forcing themselves out of the molten streams.
Their bodies were thicker and denser than the previous smaller golems, their cores also glowed a deeper orange as heat distorted the air around them.
Each step they took sent ripples through the ground.
Devon clicked his tongue, "Aight... guess they ain’t like what I just did."
A frown appeared on Marion’s face as her strings moved around, trying to hold these golems.
"These ones won’t go down as easily," she said with a sigh, "I can slow them, not completely stop them." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"That’s all I need," Devon replied, rolling his shoulders as he readied himself for round two, "just gimme a lane."
The first giant golem swung its arm, the sheer force of it pushing a wave of heat forward.
Marion’s strings wrapped around the limb, digging into molten stone, halting it just long enough for Devon to move.
He vanished.
"Yo—heads up!"
The next second, he was right above the golem and his fist was coming down on it like a meteor.
BOOM!
The moment his fist came in contact with the golem’s head, it exploded, raining down firey rocks.
But Devon’s momentum carried him forward and straight through the golem’s core.
BOOM!
The impact with its core caused an explosion which flung Devon back in the air but Marion’s strings caught him and slowly lowered him.
Devon landed lightly as Marion’s strings released him, his boots skidding just a bit on the heated stone.
"One down," he muttered, cracking his neck as he looked at the remaining giants.
The other golems seemed to react to the destruction of the first, their movements growing more aggressive.
Their bodies started glowing brighter and they released more heat as their arms reshaped into crude weapons, hammers, blades and jagged spears of molten rock.
"I don’t think I can hold them for much longer," Marion stated as she felt more and more of her SE being drained to maintain hold.
"I’ve got it," Devon said as he launched himself forward again.
Instead of charging straight ahead, he zigzagged, rebounding off chunks of hardened lava and the sides of the platform, each step building momentum.
A golem tried to intercept him, swinging wide, but Marion yanked its leg sideways at the last second causing it to lose balance.
"Lane’s open!" she shouted.
"Say less!"
Devon slipped through the gap and drove his fist into the second golem’s chest. The core cracked, glowing brighter as fractures spread across it.
He twisted midair and kicked off its body, launching himself toward the third.
The damaged core detonated a moment later.
BOOM!
The shockwave hit the third golem just as Devon slammed into its head, the combined force finally overwhelming it.
Its rocky face collapsed inward as Marion released her strings, letting the ruined bodies fall back into the molten streams.
Devon skidded to a stop, breathing a little heavier now. "Aight... yeah, these dudes definitely tougher."
And according to the timer, even harder ones were about to step out of the lava.
