Chapter 151: Unnamed

BOOM!

The sound of an explosion rang out, and the next second, the golem that had lunged towards towards Nox was sent flying back.

Rhett watched as the creature crumbled before slowly turning towards Nox, who had his arm stretched out and his hand was in a fist.

To Rhett’s surprise, the fist was covered in a transparent gauntlet that produced a golden glow.

He unclenched his fist and the transparent gauntlet reshaped itself, turning into thin lines of SE which ran up his arm before disappearing.

"That worked," Nox said quietly, more to himself than anyone else.

The ground shook violently as several larger golems began pulling themselves up from the lava, their bodies towering over the two as they seemed to be looking down on them.

Rhett snapped out of his daze and raised his shield just in time to intercept a barrage of molten projectiles. The impact forced him back, causing him to slide but he didn’t lose his balance.

"Friend," he said slowly turning to Nox who was still sat, "if you are finished meditating, now would be an excellent moment to rejoin the battle."

Nox glanced at the incoming wave, then at the timer hovering above the core.

[Time remaining: 00:10:11]

"...Yeah," he replied, rolling his shoulder as he slowly stood up, "I think I’m good now."

He then stepped forward and Rhett felt a sudden pressure coming from Nox.

It was subtle, but to someone like him who had forcefully trained himself in SE control, it was unmistakable.

Nox’s presence had changed, his energy was no longer spread throughout his body in an overflowing manner....well, not that it was in the first place.

But now it was more.... Dense.

The nearest golem started charging charged towards them but none of the two panicked, instead, Nox just powered up his boots and the next second, he was gone.

Rhett, on the other hand, just tapped the center of his chest just where his core was and a golden light immediately enveloped him.

Nox, on the other hand, reappeared above the first giant golem fraction of a second later with fist cocked back, the transparent golden gauntlet forming again in an instant and then,

BOOM!

The golems entire upper body soon crumbled to rubble, with its lower body falling into the stream of lava.

Nox smiled a bit at the result as he felt the SE pull back without the least bit of waste. Now that he thought about it, he felt it was similar to Calewin’s and Devon’s abilities.

But instead of storing his SE for a timed release, this ability let him reinforce himself without even the tinest bit of waste.

Though, right now, it took his active focus to do it, hence the reason he hadn’t fully manifested the golden knight just yet....Rhett though.

BOOM!

Nox turned to the side, noticing that Rhett was standing there with a golden sword on his shoulders and multiple fallen golems.

"I believe dealing with them one at a time wastes too much of our energy, friend," He said, turning to Nox, in his full golden knight form.

"Right," Nox nodded and turned towards the incoming wave, "let’s end this fast."

As if in response to their words, the lava around them started bubbling again and this time, even more golems started stepping out of it.

There were small fast ones, large ones, and even the ones that could shape the lava into anything they wanted.

But instead of panic, Nox just smiled a bit, resummoned both the gauntlet and Morphos before launching himself in the midst of the wave.

Time slowed down again, for him and the moment it resumed its normal flow, the golems collapsed one after another, their bodies disintegrating before they even hit the ground.

Nox twisted midair, landed, and swept Morphos in a wide arc causing a trail of golden SE to tear through the remaining cluster, slicing cleanly through stone and lava alike.

".. incredible," Rhett muttered as he looked at the results of Nox’s attacks.

Once again, he was reminded that talent always overshadowed his hard work, no matter how much time it effort he put in.

But instead of jealousy, as he had felt for his genius younger brother, he felt a bit of pride knowing that he had helped making someone stronger..... Even if that person was a lot more talented than he was.

Though lost in thoughts, he was aware enough of his surroundings to lift his sword just in time to redirect an incoming lava arrow.

He then dashed towards the golem responsible and before the creature could conjure another lava spear, it’s arms were gone.

Rhett then slashed at its legs causing the golem to tumble and before it could reach the ground, he delivered two quick slashes at both its head and core, causing it to turn into rubble before reaching the ground.

[Time remaining: 00:03:24]

There was just a bit over three minutes before the test ended and if they managed their SE well, they should be able to hold out until then.

Fortunately for the two, their current forms allowed only the most efficient use of their SE without any wastage.

This mean they should be able to laste the three minutes.... right?

Well, that would’ve been the case if Radiant Boar hadn’t thought that they had been quite relaxed this test.

The ground suddenly started rumbling and the lava rose higher and higher, so much so that it looked like lava tsunami.

The lava started taking shape as darker spots started appearing on it and what stood before the two when it was done transforming was an even larger lava golem.

The creature looked down at the two who, from its perspective, looked like some type of pebble.

It then opened its mouth, letting out a roar that shook the surrounding, sending lava spit everywhere.

"That is not a very hygienic act, friend," Rhett attempted a joke as he looked up at the golem.

Unfortunately, it seems the golem didn’t appreciate his joke as it lifted its arm with its hand in a fist before slamming it down at Rhett, causing the entire ground to rumble.

It lifted its fist only to realize that the talking pebble wasn’t there anymore, instead it was to the far side with the other pebble.

"Thank you friend," Rhett said, turning to Nox who had teleported him away just before the fist could land, before he turned back to the golem, "this creature is quite fast for one its size."

"Yeah," Nox agreed, "I’m guessing it’s because this is the final boss."

Given the time remaining, it was obvious that Radiant Boar would spawn a golem that was a lot stronger than the others.

Even Nox had been surprised at its speed. Usually when he used [Quick time], everything was slowed to a stand still, but this golem on the other hand,

Its fist, even though it was slowed, was still moving a bit faster than it was supposed to, which was very interesting.

The golem’s massive leg shifted and in the next instant the ground where they had been standing exploded, molten stone erupting upward.

Nox grabbed Rhett by the shoulder and vanished again, reappearing just outside the impact zone as heat washed over them.

Rhett staggered slightly as his feet touched ground,

The golem didn’t let them catch their breath as it roared again and slammed both fists down, lava erupting outward in a wide shockwave.

Rhett, who had properly resigned his footing, stepped forward this time, planting his sword into the ground as the golden glow on it grew and formed a broad barrier.

The impact hit like a mountain.

Cracks spread beneath Rhett’s feet, his arms trembling as the force pushed him back inch by inch. He grit his teeth, SE flaring as he held the line.

"Friend!" he called out. "Now would be a fine time to help!"

"I’m on it."

Nox appeared above the golem’s shoulder, gauntlet forming again as he drove his fist downward.

BOOM!

The impact shattered part of the golem’s shoulder, but instead of collapsing, the molten mass reformed almost instantly, lava knitting itself back together.

"...Regeneration," Nox clicked his tongue as he was forced to teleport away to avoid a retaliatory swipe, "of course."

The golem turned, its chest glowing brighter as it began compressing lava into a massive sphere.

Rhett didn’t hesitate.

His sword, now in the form of a shield glowed brighter as he ran forward.

He slammed into the golem’s leg, the impact staggering it just enough to throw off its aim.

The lava sphere detonated early, exploding harmlessly into the air rather than at the core they were protecting.

Though the shockwave did meet them, pushing Rhett back a bit, though he still held his ground.

"Rhett," Nox suddenly called out, "pin it."

Without question, Rhett ran forward again, towards the recovering golem.
