Sold to the Capo-Chapter 137: A KISS FOR THE HEIR
VINCENZO’S POV
"I told you. I can fucking walk by myself" I hold back a groan as I’m helped to my feet regardless by my father’s guard.
My father was standing right in front of me, observing me with a blank look. "You can rely on help, Vin" He said without a thought.
I leaned heavily on the crotch, trying to ignore the dull throb in my legs and the pain in my hands from where I tried to grip the crutches. "Are you seriously the one telling me this?" I asked with a soft scoff as I looked him over.
The man who had raised me to believe that it was an abomination to be weak was now telling me that it was fine to rely on people. Seems like I died and woke up in an opposite universe.
He nodded to his guard to leave the ward and the man steadied me before he walked out of the ward, leaving my father and I alone.
"Well?" I managed to wave a hand dismissively before I leaned back on the crutch.
He took a step closer and despite my slouched figure, I was still looking down at him, my brow raised as I waited for him to say whatever he wanted to before I could leave the place.
It seemed to be dark outside and my only thought was how I would get out of this place.
"I still think the same but sometimes a little scare is what we need to know how much I cherish what we have. Animosity doesn’t do us any good in the family" He brushed invisible soot off my shoulder, my eyes darting to the action before I glared at him.
Was he...trying to make things better between us.
"So you’re telling me...I shouldn’t hate you? The war is over. I have no reason to work with you anymore" I spat at him, my eyes blazing with fury.
He looked up at me, his brows knitted. "I am your father" He reminded.
A bitter scoff escaped me and I leaned closer to his height, anger in my gaze. "I already told you... don’t fucking say that again. You lost father rights after mum, Master LaRosa" Each word dripped with venom.
Something in his expression shifted. "I’m sorry" He said suddenly and I paused, my lips parting slightly. My father wasn’t the type to apologize for anything.
"You’re sorry?" I spat out. "Sorry? Well, mum isn’t back because of that... You helped my wife, be lucky I’m leaving you alive. Don’t forget I’ve wanted to put a bullet through your head for a while now, Master LaRosa" I reminded him and I made to walk past him when he spoke up.
"Your wife is pregnant with the heir" He suddenly said and I froze, turning to look at him over my shoulder.
My throat ran dry and I quickly looked away. That was the reason I wanted to leave, I wanted to confirm it myself, to see it for myself...
"I know that" I replied, my tone a tad lower now as I poked the insides of my mouth with my tongue while my chest ached.
He turned to look at me fully. "You know that child is the heir which means you’ll never be truly rid of this life"
That made me wobble as I struggled to turn around to look at him. "I want to be rid of you not this life. Also... the heir? My child will be raised as my wife and I please not to conform to your stupid rules and twisted ways"
His brows furrowed at that and his shoulders tensed. "That will not be possible, Vincenzo. You know you have to train the perfect Don to take over when you’re gone" He took a menacing step towards me but I didn’t stand down.
"I’m raising a child. Not a weapon. Something which you’ll never understand. Whether my child chooses to follow my path or not... that is absolutely none of your business. It’s something of choice" I told him, my chin raised slightly as I waited for the realization to dawn on him.
His eyes widened for a fraction of a second and he took a step back. "You’re not suggesting that someone who is not of the LaRosa’s blood will take over, are you?" He sounded repulsed by the very idea.
"No, I’m suggesting that you start to mind your business and let me raise my kid in the way I was never raised... raised with the love I never had... can you do that?" I asked, my eyes searching his.
He opened his mouth and nodded, promptly shutting his mouth. "Okay. You’re right. You’re right" He sighed and tucked his hands in his pockets. "I’ve given the ledger to your wife. Let’s go home so you can see her"
I didn’t argue with him. I simply turned on my heels and started to limp over to the door, the pain in my leg beginning to reduce to a dull ache.
Less than 30 minutes later, I was already seated in the car, cursing as I had to push my crutches away. Fuck, I better be able to walk on my own in a few days or I was going to lose my mind.
When we got home, I hobbled out of the car and looked back at Master LaRosa who was staring at me from the car. "Sure you can manage?"
I nodded, looking over at my men who had rushed to my side, relieved smiles on their faces. "I’ll be fine"
He nodded and zoomed off. "Welcome home, Don Enzo" They all bowed their heads, clearly happy that I was back and I smiled back at them.
"We’ll talk in the morning, people. It’s good to see you" I smiled and walkedㅡlimpedㅡback to the house.
As soon as I let myself in, I paused and took a huge whiff.
Home.
The lights were switched off but then I saw the light from that one room and I smiled as I limped there, the pain momentarily forgotten as I noticed a silhouette stepping out of the room.
My mum’s painting room.
Adriana.
She took a few steps close to me and I stopped in front of her, a childish grin on my face as I leaned on my crutches to stare into her teary blue eyes. She looked distraught, her hair that was neatly packed into a bun at the hospital now left messy with stray strands everywhere but she still looked beautiful.
She was still here and that was what mattered.
"You’re..here..." her voice cracked and she bit down on her lip.
I took a step back and leaned forward, doubling over as I gently pressed a kiss to her stomach, my lips feeling rough over her shirt but the way she gasped made me smile against her shirt.
"I never left... Tesoro" I whispered.
