Chapter 209: Lily’s ’Supplies’

By the time the group arrived back at the Haronyu family home, the time was almost 2am. They had spent almost an hour at a late night grocery store as Lily poured over her ’options’ when it came to junk food.

Luna had been unable to stop her without the use of force as Lily had threatened to throw a temper tantrum if she interfered with her ’process’.

Aria, who up until recently never had junk food before, went for the one thing she had tried when she arrived at Leo and Luna’s house: Cream Puffs. Rachel had grabbed a few sodas while Leo grabbed a random pack of gummy bears for both him and Luna. Crystal had chosen a tub of ice cream.

When it came to cash out though, the group was left dumbfounded as Lily came back with a literal shopping cart full of pop, chips, candy and chocolate. One by one, everyone turned to look at Luna who was beside her with a defeated expression.

"Believe it or not...this is the compromised amount..."

She sighed with exasperation while everyone else just stared at the massive cart, stunned. Lily was oblivious to it all as her complexion was glowing, over the moon about getting candy.

Leo rubbed the back of his neck and shook his head.

"Seriously, Lily, how do you even plan to eat all of this?"

Lily gave him a bright grin. "Easy! I eat when I get hungry~! Plus, snacks are fuel for winning."

Rachel chuckled, nudging Aria. "She’s basically preparing for a snack apocalypse."

Aria smiled shyly, clutching her cream puffs. "I just want these."

Luna let out a long breath. "Next time, I’m hiding the shopping cart."

Crystal just laughed quietly, glad to be part of this wild bunch despite the late hour and ridiculous snack run.

Leo somehow drew the short stick and was forced to carry in Lily’s supplies as the girl in question had passed out with a pale face during the drive home. Rachel had checked on her to make sure she was okay and almost burst out laughing.

"She passed out from muscle pain... She will be fine~!"

Rachel laughed, smacking Lily’s shoulder which elicited a small squeal of pain.

Luna winced at the sound and shot Rachel a look. "Can you not assault the invalid?"

"I am not the one who sat on her~" Rachel said, grinning as she opened the door and walked into the living room.

Leo grumbled something under his breath as he hauled in the last of the bags. "Pretty sure I just carried the weight of a small convenience store."

Crystal followed behind him, carefully cradling her ice cream like it was made of glass. "You volunteered."

"I said ’I guess I can help’... and then everyone scattered like I threatened to steal their snacks."

"Oh welcome back guys...What is that?"

Adam asked as he appeared from the kitchen, having just finished cleaned up the kitchen.

Leo held up the oversized shopping bags filled with absolutely nothing healthy.

"Lily’s food source...apparently."

"Damn. What the fuck?! That’s a lot."

"Tell me about it."

Adam blinked at the pile of processed sugar and sodium with a mix of concern and awe. "Are we sure she’s even human? Like is she some kind of sugar based U.M.A?"

Aria tilted her head and asked

"What’s a U.M.A?"

Rachel called out from the living room

"Unidentified Mysterious Animal~!"

Leo nodded his head to affirm that was indeed the meaning.

Aria looked thoughtful for a moment, then glanced at Lily, who was still lying half-conscious on the couch with a lollipop sticking out of her mouth.

"...That tracks," she said quietly.

Luna sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "She’s not a U.M.A, she’s just a menace. A high-sugar, high-maintenance menace."

Lily mumbled something incoherent before suddenly sitting up with a dazed look. "Did someone say snacks?"

"You are the snacks," Leo replied flatly, dumping another bag onto the kitchen table.

"I accept this burden," Lily said solemnly, then immediately flopped sideways again, narrowly avoiding a tower of chip bags.

Crystal opened her ice cream and took a delicate spoonful, watching the chaos unfold with the same energy one reserves for a wildlife documentary. "I feel like we’re in the middle of an experiment. And Lily is both the subject and the control group."

Adam leaned over the counter, eyeing a bag of neon-colored sour worms. "So... do we just leave these here? Or is there going to be some kind of storage strategy?"

"I’m giving her one cabinet," Luna said firmly. "One. I will label it and put a warning sign on it."

"You’ll need a lock too," Leo muttered.

"Most likely one with a key. She would probably be able to crack a combination lock if you give her enough time.."

Adam added as well before scratching his head and was about to change the subject when Luna did it for him.

"By the way Adam, I saw your niece’s car was still in the driveway. Did they leave it behind or is she still here somewhere?"

Her tone was casual but still made Adam feel a bit complicated.

"Yeah...about that..She’s still here. I had her rest up in a spare room if that’s alright. I also wanted to talk to you guys about her for a second."

Leo raised a questioning eyebrow and after a few seconds of figuring out how he was going to say it, Adam began to speak.

"Penny has decided that she wants to join the game.."

There was silence as everyone’s gaze became slightly colder. Everyone had experienced some form of mutation while playing that game and they couldn’t believe that Adam of all people was getting one of his own family members involved.

"Just to clarify. It was not my idea and I told her I was against it but she refused to listen to me. She said that she had a gut feeling about this game and honestly her instincts have yet to fail her before."

Luna pursed her lips, still not convinced by Adam’s response but if she really was as stubborn as he was implying, then it couldn’t be helped.

Leo lowered his head, letting out a soft sigh before saying "Alright man. Get some sleep now. We will add her to the guild when we get up in the morning and log in."

Adam nodded his head with a grateful smile on his face. It was a long and eventful day but they all knew that tomorrow was going to be even more so.
