Special Forces Medic-Chapter 760 - 727: The Uncertain Unknown
A police car drove into the parking lot of the North District Police Station. Shi Shuai looked at the five-story building and sighed. How could this look like a police station? It looked as beautiful as a high-end office building, almost rivaling famous architecture. The large police emblem hung proudly on the glass wall. If it weren't for that, he would have thought he'd come to the wrong place.
"Get out. I'm handing you over to your own people now." Shi Shuai pulled the man out of the car, holding his arm tightly as they headed into the building.
"Where are you from?" They hadn't gotten far inside before someone stopped them. What the heck, do they have reception services here?
"I'm looking for Director Ji."
"What's your business with him?" Seeing Shi Shuai in police uniform, the receptionist remained polite. The young woman who hadn't managed to stop Xiao Lin before and had been reprimanded by Ji Weihua now stopped everyone she saw, terrified of making a mistake and losing her job. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"I'm from the North District Police Station. This person is an undercover we caught specifically, and we're handing him over to Director Ji." The young woman was quite cute, though a bit nervous.
"If he's a criminal, just hand him over to the Crime Records Department to handle."
"Crime Records Department? What department is that?" Shi Shuai looked at the young woman in confusion, never having heard of such a division before. "No, this prisoner must be handed directly to Director Ji. He's a very important prisoner."
"I..." The person next to him wanted to speak but was silenced by a punch from Shi Shuai.
"You'd better contact him quickly. I don't have time to wait for you." Seeing her hesitation, Shi Shuai urged her impatiently. "If you don't notify him, I'll go in and find him myself. You can be responsible if anything goes wrong!"
Clearly, the threat worked on the girl. After a moment of consideration, she dialed Director Ji's office. "Hello! Director Ji, there's an officer here from the North District Police Station with an important prisoner. He requests your attention."
Ji Weihua was silent for a while on the other end of the line, making the girl hold the phone nervously. What she feared most was when he stayed silent.
Everyone working under him knew that Ji Weihua was a sly person. Most of the time, they just worked quietly, and whatever he asked was never disputed. He's now a candidate for police station director, and it's said Yao Zheng is backing him. That position was his sooner or later, and offending him now meant no good future.
"Let him come up."
"Okay!" The girl hung up the phone, exhaling. "Follow me upstairs!"
"You seem very afraid of your director!" Shi Shuai followed behind the young girl, noticing she was walking quickly. "I'm not in a hurry, slow down."
The girl stopped and glanced at Shi Shuai. "Director Ji is waiting for you, move faster." She didn't intend to pause for him, already at the elevator.
"You really fear your director, huh?" The girl's ignoring him only fueled Shi Shuai's curiosity. "Is he usually harsh on you? He seems very much like someone who could become a director."
"Do you never shut up? How is it any of your business? A man acting so nosy." The girl clearly wasn't impressed with Shi Shuai's curious personality, rolling her eyes before stopping on the third floor. Getting out of the elevator, she encountered a young man with black-rimmed glasses. "Brother Guang, can you take them to Director Ji's office? I have matters to attend to downstairs."
"Oh, okay." Brother Guang, as he was called, appeared a bit shabby. The black-rimmed glasses on his face were a sad fashion statement, and his bangs covered his eyebrows, greasy and clumped. Shi Shuai kept his distance, not wanting to smell any unpleasant odors.
"Where are you from?" Brother Guang leaned closer to Shi Shuai, unbothered. He noticed the handcuffed person beside Shi Shuai. "A prisoner, huh?"
"Mm!" Shi Shuai didn't know why, but he felt uneasy the moment he saw him. It wasn't a matter of looks but an unsettling vibe that was hard to describe, though Brother Guang didn't seem terrible otherwise, just, well, a difficult feeling to articulate.
Seeing Shi Shuai's lack of response, Brother Guang shrugged indifferently and stopped at an office at the end. "Director Ji, I'm coming in." After knocking, Brother Guang turned the handle and entered. "This person wishes to see you."
Very polite, Shi Shuai thought. It was his first time seeing Ji Weihua alone, and his impression of him lingered on the arrogance from that night at Beigong. Yet, inside and out, he left another impression: immense politeness towards Director Ji, or put it bluntly, fear.
Ji Weihua pondered who might be coming from the North District Police Station, but seeing Shi Shuai, he hesitated, then relaxed his expression. "You may go now."
Ji Weihua sized up Shi Shuai. When his gaze landed on the person behind him, his brows furrowed. "From the North District Police Station? What do you mean by bringing this person to me?"
"Director Ji understood the situation as soon as he saw the person. Our boss wants us to bring the person over to you for handling," Shi Shuai said, not caring for a polite tone with Ji Weihua. Having seen the person, he wanted to finish the task quickly and leave, not wanting to stay a second longer.
"Your boss? Xu Ming?" Ji Weihua naturally linked the boss Shi Shuai mentioned to their head, Xu Ming. It was unbelievable that someone with that ability could be called a boss; it seemed the North District Police Station had run out of talent. "What crime has this person committed?"
"He was an officer at the original North District Police Station, and he was arrested for stealing the remains excavated from the North Palace."
"The remains were stolen?"
"It's more appropriate for Director Ji to handle the specifics of the case," Shi Shuai performed a salute to Ji Weihua and then prepared to leave.
"Wait a minute!" Ji Weihua called out to Shi Shuai. "What else did your boss say?"
"Nothing, just said that when you saw this person, you'd know what it meant."
In the large office, only Ji Weihua and the arrested officer remained. Ji Weihua's expression changed to one of coldness as he came out from behind the desk, approaching the officer, who took a step back.
"What was said?"
"Nothing!" The young officer shook his head. Ji Weihua laughed a couple of times sarcastically.
"If nothing was said, why did they hand you over here?"
"I really didn't say anything!"
"Men, take him away!" Ji Weihua didn't want to hear another word, so he called someone to take the officer away. This was already the second time; the first was a head, and now it's a person, what exactly is the North District Police Station trying to do?
Faced with the rain outside gradually subsiding, Ji Weihua sank into a bottomless abyss. He wished these people would confront him directly, rather than resort to petty tactics now and then. These were all the people he had sent out. They had every reason to suspect him, but why just send a person back as a warning? What was the game they were playing?
As he thought about it, he picked up the phone but put it down after dialing just one key. No, he couldn't tell Yao Zheng about these matters; it would only make him see even more clearly. Yao Zheng's attitude towards him was becoming increasingly harsh; it was hard to say that he wouldn't kick him to the curb, just like he did with Yan Juanjuan.
How could he expect someone who could kill his own woman to be kind to him?
After putting down the phone, Ji Weihua slumped into his chair, holding his forehead. Regarding the North District group, he was even more worried than Yao Zheng. Though it was dangerous here, compared to the North District Police Station, the depth of those waters was unknown. He had to prepare a retreat for himself to avoid being betrayed without knowing it.
Shi Shuai drove down the road, speeding out from the North District Police Station, feeling all sorts of displeasure, wanting to punch that face to vent. The wipers flicked back and forth on the windshield. Suddenly, a sight caught his eye—a girl who looked familiar was with someone next to her who seemed to be Yao Zheng's secretary.
The police car stopped at the red light on the road. Shi Shuai planned to return to the station, finding it boring to leave Lao Xu alone since there was no one there today. Yet, he hesitated watching the two crossing the road. As the green light flashed, he instinctively turned left as the light changed from red to green.
He drove nearly skimming the edge, his speed as slow as a turtle. If he weren't driving a police car, he'd have already been cursed at. Even in a police car, passing drivers cast resentful looks.
Shi Shuai watched the two head into a coffee shop, pulled his car to the roadside, and dashed through the rain to the street opposite. Just as he was about to enter, seeing his own reflection in uniform in the glass, he abandoned the idea and returned to his car instead.
There was an empty spot under the glass window by the roadside, but the two who entered didn't choose to sit there, so Shi Shuai could only sit in the car and wait.
He was certain he had seen the girl before, Ling Xiu's pure appearance unforgettable. How could Yao Zheng's secretary be with such a young girl?
Xu Ming had been waiting at the station for a long time without seeing his police car return, beginning to worry that Shi Shuai's impulsive nature might cause trouble. More important was the fear that Ji Weihua might make things difficult for him. After pacing back and forth a few times, he finally called Shi Shuai.
If something really happened, at least the call could give him some buffer. Given Ji Weihua's cunning, he wouldn't trouble a young cop, as it would be beneath his status. Besides, he wouldn't directly tear down the facade. The current ambiguous situation was just about who would break this delicate balance first.
"Ah, Lao Xu!" Shi Shuai picked up the phone excitedly as soon as he heard Xu Ming's voice. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, feel free to vote for it on Qidian (qidian.com) with recommendations and monthly votes. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
