Chapter 795: Chapter 762: Implication

Xiao Lin smiled as he closed the door; the lock that had been kicked in couldn’t secure the door. The woman standing outside tried to peek inside, but through the mirrored wall, Xiao Lin caught all of An’s actions with his eyes. He shook his head, reopened the door, and beckoned An. "Manager An, are you coming in to chat, or are you concerned about your client?"

"I... I just came to see what happened." An’s embarrassment was apparent when Xiao Lin discovered her snooping, the shame apparent on her face caused her to step back. "If anything happens, feel free to call me; I’m in the office next door."

"Alright!" Xiao Lin watched her with a smile as she disappeared down the hallway with two young women. He closed the door again, facing the woman still sitting on the sofa. "We meet again."

"I don’t understand what you mean." Secretary Li was taken away without any struggle, without even a chance to resist—it was somewhat ironic. "Who are you people? What did Secretary Li do?"

"Secretary Li? Before worrying about irrelevant people, it’s best to first care about yourself." Xiao Lin leaned against the door and casually lit a cigarette. At this moment, Ye Zi seemed just like an ordinary girl, nothing unusual, with a hint of weariness about her. Once she removed her makeup, she returned to being a pure girl. "Wipe your eyes, the mascara is smudged on your eyelids."

Women put on makeup for themselves and others, but neglecting the details can ruin even the best look. Ye Zi was a woman, and when Xiao Lin pointed out her unsightly look, she immediately grabbed a tissue from the table and dabbed her eyes.

"I don’t recall us meeting before. Are you my client?" Ye Zi glanced at Xiao Lin, a man capable of taking Secretary Li away without panic and quite handsome. She had no strong impression of him.

"Ah, the successful often forgets things, especially beauties!" Xiao Lin leaned back on the sofa. One foot at the doorway, the other on the floor, his long legs made sure the distance from the floor wasn’t affected even if half his behind leaned on the chair’s backrest. "We met just an hour and a half ago, in the residential area across the street. Do you not remember?"

Ye Zi had changed clothes, from the style and color it wasn’t from Xiao Mei’s residence. Director Xu mentioned Ye Zi studied on Xuefu Road and rented a place on the north side. Initially believing she might be Xiao Mei came from her frequent visits to Xiao Mei’s residence. If she is Xiao Mei, why rent another place?

"Is this the popular way to flirt now? Well, I admit you’re quite special, I’m willing to go out with you." Ye Zi crossed her legs, took a cigarette from her bag, and stared fearlessly at Xiao Lin. "But let’s be clear, my fee to go out is very pricey. If you can afford it, then we can leave now."

"I think even if I had the money, you wouldn’t have the stamina for it!" Xiao Lin laughed. "Isn’t your right side aching and somewhat swollen?" Xiao Lin pointed knowingly at Ye Zi’s right side with his chin.

"Oh, sir, you must have x-ray vision. How did you know I just slipped and hurt myself in the bathroom? You surely aren’t secretly in love with me, stalking me all this time, right?"

"Miss Ye Zi, are you still going to keep up the disguise? Since I found you here, I’m well aware of your background. Cooperating with me now is still an option; otherwise, it’s not a threat, but you know the consequences of using banned substances, right?" Xiao Lin’s words were direct, but to Ye Zi, it sounded like a joke.

"Sir, are you insane? I don’t know who you are, and what banned substances are you talking about. If you aren’t here for the ladies, then please don’t waste my time."

"How does it feel to jump from the tenth floor? Your skills impressed me greatly." Xiao Lin persisted. "Fourth Lord has plenty of drugs, aren’t you afraid of being used like Yan Juanjuan when you work for Yao Zheng? Or did you plan from the start to confuse everyone, and that Secretary Li who left—isn’t he a little shoe? If your secret gets to Yao Zheng’s ears, how will you live?"

"What did you say? I’m Xiao Mei, really hilarious. Everyone here knows the relationship between Secretary Li and me, and I’m not Xiao Mei, the real Xiao Mei is dead, and I’m not Yao Zheng’s mistress." Ye Zi angrily threw her bag and stubbed out her cigarette, lighting another with trembling slender arms. "Are you a cop? I saw the old man standing outside the door; he was the one who brought us to the station for questioning before."

"Police? You could say that."

"If you’re police, you need to produce evidence, claiming I’m Xiao Mei, Yao Zheng’s mistress. There must be proof, without evidence, don’t talk nonsense."

"Evidence will emerge, but where were you around six o’clock this evening?" Ye Zi’s refusal to cooperate was expected.

"I was out shopping, no witnesses or evidence."

"How did you slip in the bathroom?"

"Do I need to report this to you? You’re overstepping a bit!"

"Ah, Miss Ye Zi, please cooperate with law enforcement and truthfully answer my question, why did you slip in the bathroom?"

Ye Zi paused, the sudden cold demeanor of this man startled her. "How would I know, I just accidentally fell to the ground, quite painful, planning to have it checked tomorrow."

"I can recommend a good doctor for you, and they can offer you a free examination, how about that?"

"Officer, what do you really want to do?" Ye Zi felt her patience wearing thin, glaring at Xiao Lin.

"Not much. Just curious why you appeared at the deceased Xiao Mei’s house and what your identity is." Xiao Lin left the doorway, propping one hand on the table and leaning his upper body forward, getting close to Ye Zi. "I heard you have a brother working as an attendant, right? If you don’t want to tell the truth, I’ll find him. I’m sure I can get some answers from him."

"You!" Ye Zi widened her eyes, seeming more worried about that attendant than Secretary Li.

"There is surveillance in the building where Xiao Mei lived, and every time you go in and out there’s likely image evidence. Just checking it should reveal the answers. Do you know why I haven’t done that?" Xiao Lin lifted Ye Zi’s chin with his finger. (To be continued.
