Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 47—Innovation
Cole’s heart pounded heavily in his chest as he wondered what he just got himself into.
The Awakened Level was something that was still far ahead of the current him.
Every advancement in level brings you closer to the world. Until it gets to the point where casual strikes could cause hurricanes and earthquakes.
Cole was a bit privy to that point, so he could only try his best to calm his mind and reanalyze.
"Alright, the gap in strength is undoubted. Now how do we go about this fight? Cole thought.
Cole and the beast separated from one another, with Cole leaving the exchange with sores all over.
The impact had spread over his body, reducing the pain intensity but increasing the area.
Upon separation. The beast stared at Cole with a taunting gaze. Its superiority was established from the previous collision.
Undoubtedly Cole was flustered, but the fact that he hadn’t exposed everything in his arsenal gave him a level of reassurance.
"Bring it on. Awakened-Level or not, I don’t fear you," Cole screamed internally.
After a bit of thinking, he knew he couldn’t focus on brute force alone.
He had to be extremely smart to even have a chance at surviving.
Realizing that fact, Cole didn’t allow the beast to take the initiative; instead, he rushed forward.
He rushed towards a darker part of the forest for some weird reason.
The beast’s home ground.
The Life beast watched Cole’s actions skeptically before sprinting behind him.
Cole finally reached the darkest region he could find and got his stance ready.
The Life beast also arrived almost instantaneously.
"Let’s go," Cole screamed.
Like every logical being, seeing its current environment and its suitability for its talent.
The beast used the best approach and blended into the shadow.
Seeing the beast do that, the tips of Cole’s lips moved apart while he maintained his calm.
He stood planted in his position, waiting gently for anything from any direction.
And he didn’t have to wait long. It arrived.
A sharp blur approached him faster than he could follow, and like he did previously, he instinctively sent out an attack.
Things have changed. The beast was now much stronger than it previously was.
It didn’t fear Cole at all, so it didn’t try escaping, seeing his reaction.
Cole, on the other hand, was now scared of the beast. He couldn’t wait for the beast to get close.
The two attacks collided heavily. Cole came out as the lesser one by a large margin.
He didn’t falter, though; he maintained his cool.
The beast landed and retreated back into the shadows again.
Then things went haywire.
All Cole’s plans went into the dump at that moment. He regretted luring the beast here.
Cole could see the shadowy change in real time. Their darkness grew thicker. More condensed, as if something controlled it.
Then Cole remembered. He remembered how much he had fucked up.
"Stronger you get, the more you can change the world itself. Life beasts were closer to nature than spirits initially."
"So an awakened Life beasts would be able to control his environment to an extent."
The condensed darkness made the previously hard visibility even more torturous.
Cole couldn’t see anything at all. The short area around him appeared to have become the beast’s territory.
Slash!
Cole received a claw swipe straight to his thighs. The beast seemed to be taunting him.
Instead of directly attacking. It decided to keep leaving tiny attacks all over his body.
Knowing fully well Cole had nothing to save him.
"Damn it, do I really need the eye of Scrutiny to save myself?" Cole questioned.
Helplessness was something he had sworn he didn’t want to feel again, but the world seemed to mock him and always put him in impossible situations.
Cole finally gave in and activated the Eyes of Scrutiny to save him.
His golden eyes allowed him to see much better and even allowed him to see what he didn’t expect.
Looking at the Life beast, Cole saw its Life energy flowing in a sort of circuit with the immediate surroundings.
"This is really interesting," Cole thought amusedly.
In the heat of battle, he didn’t have the luxury to relish or try to decipher anything. He only tried to survive.
Now that he was able to see the beast, a few of his problems were solved.
He could see the direction of attack, but that didn’t mean he could react fast enough.
Being the kind of person Cole was. It didn’t take long for him to think of something else that could save him completely.
"I have always used Kinetic acceleration to move forward in two-dimensional planes." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"How about up?" He reasoned.
"It is worth a try," Cole decided.
The beast attempted to attack again using that same style, but Cole was ready this time.
He had been preparing for Kinetic Acceleration for a bit now, and the moment the opportunity presented itself.
He looked up and jumped, utilizing the ability while in the air.
Since the ability amplified Kinetic force it allowed Cole to almost instantaneously appear up in the air.
The beast got to the location that used to be and was quite confused to not find Cole there.
It didn’t even think to look up or anything, only scanning around itself.
In the air, Cole looked down with a resolute expression; he activated Kinetic Acceleration again and was propelled downward with unimaginable force.
Like the attack against Linda, Cole came crashing down with a flaming fist and insane momentum.
Boom!
A large explosion rang out when Cole hit his target, and all small plants were completely destroyed.
Cole himself felt the force, his hands becoming mangled in multiple locations.
The Life beast on the other hand, wasn’t dead at all, but it seemed to have lost consciousness.
Cole carried his injured body and tried to leave the scene as fast as he could.
He had no hope of killing the beast, so he could only escape and run away before the beast regained consciousness.
Though Cole was tired, he felt a large surge of happiness while he was escaping.
"I did it; I stood my ground," Cole said to himself.
His happiness was soon drowned out when he heard a voice from behind him.
"Hahaha, Freshman, I finally found you."
"Time for some sweet revenge."
