Chapter 56: Chapter 56—Breakthrough

Worry weighed heavily on Cole, but he tried his best not to show it. Not like he could, actually.

"The old man is there; he can’t do anything," Cole reassured. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

When they got close enough, Cole observed a look of surprise on the old man’s face.

"You really are something," Cole heard the old man say.

He noticed the man’s gaze on the Life beast that was currently carrying him.

Then they all finally arrived in front of the people that had been previously waiting.

"Well done, all of you," The old man said upon their arrival.

"You must have gone through a lot," He continued while observing their injuries.

His eyes lingered on Cole for much longer than they were supposed to, but the man skillfully prevented suspicion.

He turned around to look at a teacher behind him.

The teacher didn’t waste any time, and with a weird gesture, he produced multiple vials that looked just like the one Bryan previously gave Cole.

The teacher handed one to each of the students, but when it got to Cole’s turn, a weird expression appeared on his face.

His expression was mainly due to two reasons. Cole was currently carried by a Life beast and also, the severity of his injuries.

"I don’t think this will work on you." The teacher said helplessly.

The Life beast that was currently carrying Cole carefully dropped him. With shivering legs, it backed away and then ran into the forest with its tail tucked between its legs.

The teacher looked at Cole lying on the ground and then back at the old man.

"Give this to him." The old man said while raising a new glass vial.

The content of this vial seemed much more pungent and concentrated than the others.

The teacher looked at the vial with a shocked expression.

"Elder..." She said,

"Use it; they deserve it," He responded.

The teacher hesitantly took the vial and proceeded to help Cole in downing the content.

"Hmmmm," Cole moaned uncontrollably.

He was currently feeling something familiar but about 20 times more concentrated than the last time.

The typical Cold and Hot feeling spreading across his body.

Cole could feel most of his injuries healing one by one, leaving no scar behind.

He could almost lose himself in the comforting feeling surging through his body.

BOOM!

A mini explosion suddenly rang out; accompanying it was some intense heat that flooded the environment.

The students and even some of the teachers were quite startled by the turn of events.

They looked around them to see what was going on.

All of their eyes suddenly landed on Cain; he was currently seated in a lotus position on the ground mumbling something.

Cole strained his ears in an attempt to actually hear what he was saying.

And after a bit of concentration, he finally did.

"Fire the source of all heat,

Fire the light that keeps the world lit.

Fire the end of all dedestruction.

Fire the start of all construction.

Cole felt his Spirit being alleviated when he listened to those words. His mind entered a weird state of absolute peace.

"Fire is the source of ..."

The words were suddenly cut off, snapping Cole out of his trance. He hurriedly opened his eyes to check out why it stopped.

He opened his eyes to see a barrier of light surrounding Cain while his mouth still moved.

"It isn’t good to listen to other people’s comprehension in the moment of breakthroughs," Cole suddenly heard.

"Moment of breakthrough, Cain was breaking through?" Cole suddenly realized.

"Does that mean he was comprehending his innate Spirit previously?"

Cole felt his worldview expand by a lot. He now understood some of the points he had previously made much better now.

"Quite the opportunity you kids have in there," The old man said.

"Breaking through to the Awakened realm so quickly."

"Tsk, young and naive."

The old man rambled to himself, distractedly ignoring the gazes of the others around him.

Bryan was currently rubbing his bald head in a corner while he healed his injuries.

That action seemed to provide him a sense of calmness or something.

Linda, Moses, and Lucius were also currently sitting while healing their injuries.

The old man finally settled down and looked back at the teachers.

"Quinox came more prepared than we expected, and they only sent two people this time."

"They really caught us off guard."

"Hadn’t these kids been strong enough, we would be in quite big trouble," He said while looking at Linda and Cain.

His gaze also shifted to Cole and then the others.

"Take them back for better treatment; the Placement test is over," The old man said before disappearing.

"Over? I haven’t gotten enough points," Cole thought fearfully.

The teachers shared glances among themselves before moving to take a student along, leaving the scene.

Before they left, one of them looked at the second-year student that had moved further away.

"You failed to redeem yourself again. You know what will happen to you now, right?" He said with a stern gaze.

The second-year student avoided his gaze while tightening his fist. He didn’t bother saying a word; he knew what was coming.

Seeing his reaction, the teacher didn’t bother with him anymore, as he proceeded to leave.

Hearing the teacher leave, the second-year student looked up at Cole’s distant figure with a heart filled with hate.

He had previously hated Cole quite a bit, but it hadn’t gotten to the level it currently was.

At this moment, though, he hated Cole so much. An Inner demon even began forming in him.

"You will pay," He said with clenched teeth and bloodshot eyes.

Outside the Forest of Chaos, Cole and the rest were currently lying on what seemed to be sickbeds.

Their conditions are being monitored by nurses wearing white uniforms.

One by one, they tested the students with a weird instrument.

"We can’t have Quinox-tainted students roaming the academy," One of the nurses said quietly.

When they got to Cole’s turn. The nurse’s expression suddenly twisted on her face, displaying utter horror.

"Get the elder now," She said as her lips quivered.
