Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 65—Bryan’s Inquisition
Isaac’s eyes betrayed his true thoughts; he felt extremely confident Cole wasn’t associated with Quinox, so he didn’t understand the elder’s point.
"Relax, kid, I didn’t mean he works for Quinox," the elder finally said.
Isaac’s expression finally relaxed as he heard the further words.
"I just meant he either has what they want or he will soon have what they want."
"Which do you think it is?" He asked Isaac.
"I think he will have what they want," Isaac said resolutely.
"Ohh, you have so much faith in the kid’s potential, despite him being a 1-star."
The two of them continued their conversation about Cole’s situation and even the current problem the academy was facing as the night grew deeper.
Healing center.
The next morning, Cole woke up feeling quite refreshed, but upon remembering the events of the previous night, his mood was immediately spoiled.
"Why does the Academy feel even more dangerous than the slums?" he thought.
He stood up on his feet and stretched himself while surveying his surroundings.
He was alone, like he had always been on mornings like the previous day.
"The head nurse said I could leave anytime this morning," he said to himself.
"I can’t wait to return to my room."
He quickly freshened himself up and prepared the room for his exit.
He made the bed as best as he could while also trying to keep the room as spotless as he could before leaving.
"Bye-bye, temporary prison," he said before slamming the door.
Cole got outside the building with light steps as he breathed in fresh air.
"Can finally go back to my hostel; classes resume tomorrow, and things seem to be going smoothly."
Upon getting downstairs, he decided to test out his new speed again and race to the hostel.
Dust was raised as Cole rushed out, leaving nothing but a gust of wind behind.
Twenty minutes later, he arrived at the Flaming Phoenix hostel. His own hostel.
Without wasting further time, he rushed up the stairs straight for his room.
Knock! Knock!
Cole knocked on the door to his room, and after hearing Bryan’s response from the inside, he directly entered.
Bryan was currently in a study session, with multiple books related to spirits surrounding him.
Cole felt weirdly satisfied with that, but he noticed something: the books were mainly focused on Innate spirits.
Out of curiosity, Cole couldn’t help but ask.
"Why do I need so many books about Innate spirits?"
Bryan looked up from his book, straight at Cole, and said with a serious expression.
"I am trying to figure out what your Innate Spirit actually is,"
"uhhhh," Cole frowned.
The air immediately changed from neutral to slightly awkward as the two of them just stared at each other.
As Bryan’s own personal way of coping with awkwardness, he immediately began rubbing his bald head.
"uhm, let me rephrase. I am trying to get what type of 1-star Innate Spirit grants someone overpowered abilities like yours."
Now Cole felt even more confused; he didn’t expect Bryan or even anyone to think he was overpowered.
Only he partially understood its full potential.
"Why do you think my Innate spirit is overpowered?" Cole asked.
"Wait, I think I need to start from my side for you to understand," Bryan replied.
"I have a 3-star Innate spirit."
Cole wasn’t too shocked by that revelation, as he had already guessed that point a while ago.
"Though I won’t be saying what it actually is, the abilities it grants me follow a specific pattern.
"My first ability, Buddha’s palm, allows me to create spiritual constructs in the form of palms to crush opponents."
"My second ability, Spiritual resonance allows me to create threads to Connect multiple minds together and communicate with them."
Cole was quite familiar with the two abilities Bryan explained; he had seen him use the two in battle, so it didn’t really confuse him.
"I won’t be disclosing the remaining abilities for some reasons, but from what I have said, you should have a rough idea."
"The two abilities I explained above are connected to the spiritual side of things; that is, they have the same origin or core, but yours doesn’t work that way."
"I have noticed you use an eye ability, speed boost ability, and even flame abilities on different occasions."
"I just can’t get the correlation between all of them and how you can get so many abilities from a 1-star Innate Spirit."
Cole stared at Bryan completely speechless; he had never expected his roommate to think or inspect him so deeply.
Even he had never expected anyone to do that; he just began realizing the danger behind using so many abilities openly.
"How could I not have thought of that," he chastised himself.
His thoughts kept spiraling and snowballing as he thought back to all the moments he had utilized his abilities so openly.
"Could that be why the elder suspects something of me?"
"ohhh damn, things are growing out of hand then."
"Cole Bremont, why weren’t you careful enough?" he thought.
Bryan was sitting in his spot waiting for Cole’s response, but he could see his unfocused eyes, so he decided not to disturb him for that moment.
While he waited, he also began his own thoughts, as he had his own worries in life.
His worries were the exact reason he decided to move so much closer to Cole.
He saw something special in him that could help him achieve his own goals.
"I must have my revenge even if I have to make contracts with demons," he thought.
Slowly Cole was getting dragged out of his mind as he resolved the spiraling thoughts in his head.
He thought about his abilities, thought about Doctor Thomas, and thought about the unknown danger.
They all flooded his mind at once previously, but now he had settled himself and regained a little bit of clarity.
Bryan also noticed Cole’s return, so he looked back at him and asked again.
"So, what’s your Innate spirit Cole,"
