Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 80—Intervention
Cole’s mind was about to crash at that moment as he felt his back drenching with sweat.
"What is he doing here again? I thought he left," Cole thought to himself.
"I am so dead."
He couldn’t forget what it took for them to have a chance to kill the others they had already encountered.
Though he was much stronger than he was at that time, he still wasn’t confident in defeating them alone.
"Did you really think you snuck up on me?" the man said with a sly smile.
Cole was able to get a closer look at the figure’s face now that he was much closer.
The man had a very square face with all his features completely squeezed in the center. He wasn’t too good-looking.
Cole stared at the man, not sure as to how he should respond to him.
He was careless and partially overconfident, and he knew it. He completely forgot Simone’s words.
"Too shocked to speak," the man continued.
"I am quite surprised too, what are the odds you would come across me of all the others that are here?"
"Guess mother luck is smiling at me."
Cole’s mind was totally absent from all the man was saying; he could only think of a plan to escape.
He wasn’t thinking of fighting at all.
"I need to find a chance; let’s try to stall for time," he thought.
"Since you were so confident in your abilities, why did you pretend to leave then?" he questioned.
"Hahahahaha, how else would I have let you lose your guard then?"
"The explosion was to attract you, and you foolishly fell for it."
"The explosion! He had already sensed my presence so long ago," Cole thought.
"I really need to get rid of this thing as soon as possible; I am just like a walking red light," he thought.
"Stop trying to stall for time; there’s no way you are escaping this," the man said.
He heavily underestimated Cole, since he thought he was just a Dormant-level spiriter.
"I am not trash like Simone, whom a bunch of kids could kill so easily."
Cole’s eyes widened again in shock.
"How did he know we killed Simone? can’t it be one of the Academy authorities?" He questioned internally.
Cole observed the man in front of him with extreme detail; sometimes he had activated the Eyes of Scrutiny.
He was observing every one of the man’s movements; the moment he sensed an attack or anything like that, he was ready to spring forward.
His preparations gave him a little more time to do something when the real trouble arrived.
Cole observed a little bit of muscle movement in his opponent.
"He is ready to attack," he concluded.
He didn’t bother wasting time and immediately activated the Lightning coat.
His body was covered with Blue and Golden lightning amping his speed by quite a bit.
"I knew you were ready for something the moment your eyes turned golden."
"You really are a special kid."
With those words, the cloaked man appeared behind Cole and sent a slash at him using his arm.
Cole’s enhanced reflexes came to save him in a moment.
like this, as it allowed him to react fast enough.
He ducked to the ground to avoid the attack in one fluid motion.
He burst out like a bullet, heading straight for the academy ground.
"I only need to get to populated areas, then things will be okay," Cole thought.
He pushed himself to the absolute limit, moving his legs as fast as he could.
He was prepared to use kinetic acceleration combined with the speed boost gotten from the lightning Coat in a dire moment.
In the previous spot Cole was standing, the man stood there with a strange look that quickly morphed into a smile again.
"This won’t be as easy as I thought."
"But that makes it much more interesting," he thought before also rushing out.
He was much faster than Cole was, and it was extremely obvious when the gap between them decreased so fast he was almost immediately behind Cole.
Cole noticed that too, and without hesitation, he activated Kinetic Acceleration.
Since his advancement, the time between the activation and the effect has grown much shorter.
So in the blink of an eye, he was suddenly propelled so far forward; now Cole could even see some buildings in the distance in front of him.
"I hope I make it."
"If that’s how you want it, I hoped we could have some fun, but it seems you don’t want to," the man said before accelerating again.
He immediately appeared in front of Cole, who had lost the effect of his Kinetic Acceleration.
"It’s over," he said.
Cole was running so fast that he couldn’t stop him in time; even if he could, the momentum would still throw him flying straight at the man.
With a sword in hand, the man waited for Cole to arrive in front of him.
While maintaining his form, he sent a sword slash straight at Cole’s neck, aiming to chop his head cleanly off.
Cole watched the sword approach his head helplessly.
His body was too accustomed to the motion for him to perform other actions.
His enhanced reflexes only allowed him to observe the approaching attack before it got to him.
Cole could already feel the metal of the blade pressing on his neck when the attack suddenly stopped.
"You don’t think you can bully students in the Academy like that, do you?" Cole heard from behind him.
The sword was being held just a small inch above his neck by a hand that looked like it had gone through a lot.
Despite being rough, the hand still had a delicate look to it, signifying it belonged to a woman.
With his lightning Coat still activated, Cole looked behind to observe who it was.
The person behind him was someone he had never expected to see at all. It was someone extremely familiar.
"Miss Eleanor," Cole shouted out with wide eyes.
