Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 96—Attempt to Edit
Before Cole got comfortable and tried to do what he wanted to do, he suddenly remembered something.
"I can’t access the codex."
Though he hadn’t tried for about a day, he still felt it was likely he couldn’t.
Despite being almost sure it won’t work, Cole still decided to try it.
But upon raising his head to check through the room, he saw Linda and Bryan doing separate things in the room.
"I need to find somewhere else," he thought while standing on his feet.
"I will be back, guys; there’s something I need to do."
Hearing Cole’s words, Bryan just nodded slightly while Linda looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"Hmmmm," she said softly.
After telling the others, he didn’t waste time waiting in the room; he quickly turned around to leave, leaving just Linda and Bryan behind in the room.
"Where do I go now?" he thought while outside the room.
Cole has no other place he usually stays while in the slums except his room.
But now that his room was currently not an option anymore, he could only think of one more place.
"Mr. Evans’ room."
"That should be the perfect spot actually," Cole said as if he wanted to convince himself about it.
The more he thought about it, the more logical it actually became.
"In case anything happens, I will be close enough to know immediately."
With that conclusion, he headed towards Mr. Evans’ room. Cole got inside the room and looked at the scattered room all around him.
He just went towards a part of the room and cleared a small spot to sit while still being surrounded by all the dirt.
Cole had never been a neat freak or someone particularly careful about neatness since you can’t afford to waste time on that here, but despite all of that, he always tried to keep his room tidy.
Sitting on the ground, Cole first decided to attempt summoning the codex.
He willed the codex’s appearance, and he actually received a response. The codex response wasn’t what he expected, though.
Instead of the codex appearing in front of him or anything like that, it only vibrated fiercely before growing inactive again.
"Still nothing, uhhh, I hope it doesn’t take too long," he thought.
Since he couldn’t summon the codex and do whatever he wanted to do, Cole decided to continue his other plans.
He activated the Eyes of Scrutiny and looked down at himself to check inside him.
Cole could see the passive Life energy flow through his own body, but that wasn’t what he wanted to observe.
He wanted to check how the activated ability actually causes Life energy to move in him.
To observe that, he needed to activate the ability first.
That was the exact area where Cole ran into a wall.
"How do I observe myself while moving at such speeds?"
"I need to look at where I am going,"
Cole thought for a while on what he should do, but he just couldn’t find the appropriate answer.
"I might as well just try it then," he said to himself.
Standing on his feet, Cole slowly activated the Kinetic Acceleration ability.
Kinetic Acceleration allowed him to move his whole body in any direction of a motion, but was there something he could do to make it just a part of his body?
That was exactly what Cole wanted to achieve with this edit.
The Life energy flowed across his body in a specific pattern while he began picking up speed fast.
Cole didn’t try to raise his head to even check around him. His eyes were completely focused on himself.
"He observed the pathways, paying close attention to the special areas he wanted to work on."
Close vision suddenly blurred as his body finally attained top speed, sending him forward.
Since the room was so small and Cole wasn’t even paying attention, he was heading directly at a wall.
By the time he noticed something was wrong or anything was going on, he was already directly in front of it.
"Damn," he said while his face slammed heavily on the wall.
Bam!
A fairly large vibration spread through the wall across the whole building, alerting everyone there and even Bryan and Linda.
The two of them quickly stood up on their feet, ready to take action at the slightest notice.
But after that single shake, nothing else happened for a while, resulting in them dropping their guard.
The main cause of this, Cole, was currently rubbing his head with a slightly pained expression.
He knew it didn’t make sense for him to be able to do this here, but he wanted to try, and now he had gotten his response.
"I really need to find somewhere else to do this," Cole said excitedly.
From that short moment, he had been able to glean some information on what exactly he had to do.
"This is fantastic."
After realizing that the room couldn’t work for what he was about to do, he began thinking of where else to do it.
Then it clicked; he remembered a location that was mostly desolate, and he could try to use it.
Despite being very averse to that place due to his experience there, his goal was more pressing to him than that.
"I must do this if I want to grow," he said gently.
He had decided to head towards the vicinity of the Dr. Thomas building again.
Since it was already abandoned and its surroundings were mostly empty.
It was the perfect place. It was either there or staying here, and Cole knew the best one.
He felt a little hesitant to go there again, since every single time he went to that building, something always happened to the Codex.
The first time, the Codex awakened; the second time, the Codex was forced into dormancy.
"I hope nothing happens this time,"
He then proceeded to leave his building again and head towards that place.
They had already changed back from the academy uniform when they came back previously, so Cole had no need to worry about people’s eyes.
After about ten minutes, Cole arrived at the newly forming parts of the slum where people moved about.
Cole immediately slowed down as he noticed something in the eyes of most people here.
It was something deep and extremely scary.
"Something is wrong here," he thought fearfully.
