Sports Medicine Master System-Chapter 85 - 75: Heading to Europe, Josep Guardiola (Part 2)
Besides, he had ambitiously assembled the ’Backcourt 2000’ duo. They hadn’t even played a few proper seasons together and still hadn’t fully gelled. If he broke them up now, wouldn’t that just prove how big of a failure his initial decision was?
The old man at home would probably give him grief about it again.
"So you’re keeping them," Chen Yu said.
Brian gave a bitter smile, tacitly agreeing.
"Alright, I understand."
After seeing Brian off, Chen Yu contacted Calva.
Chen Yu agreed to the trip to Europe.
He didn’t want to miss out on a patient like Ronaldo.
Then there was the matter of investing in and building a clinic, which Chen Yu also agreed to.
Chen Yu had thought it over. If even someone like Ronaldo had sought him out based on his reputation, it meant his name was already out there.
He could foresee more patients seeking him out in the future.
He couldn’t just keep borrowing other people’s hospitals every time. He needed his own clinic.
On his income, he couldn’t possibly afford a large private clinic.
A loan wouldn’t work either. At most, Chen Yu could get a loan for a million, but not for tens of millions.
Since Calva was interested in investing in the healthcare industry, and considering Chen Yu’s connection to Hill, cooperating with him was a good option.
As for where to build it, Chen Yu had already decided: right here in Phoenix. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
It wasn’t because he would be staying in Phoenix for the next year, but because the climate here was perfect for recuperation and recovery.
"Calva, we can choose a location for the clinic in the suburbs, somewhere with more privacy and a better environment."
After all, their clients would be high-net-worth athletes.
Calva replied, "Alright, I’ll have someone scout some locations first. We can finalize the address after you get back from Europe."
After hanging up, Chen Yu didn’t head straight to the practice court. Instead, he went to the locker room.
The players came out one by one, politely greeting Chen Yu.
When Robinson came out, Chen Yu stopped him.
"You haven’t been smoking, have you?" Chen Yu asked.
Robinson quickly shook his head.
Chen Yu took a sniff. He didn’t detect the smell of weed, so he patted Robinson on the back. "That’s good. And don’t forget, besides being your team doctor, I’m also the head of the league’s player health management department."
If this were actually reported to the league, Stern would definitely not let him off easy.
Robinson shivered violently.
"Alright, head to practice," Chen Yu said with a smile.
Robinson nodded and hurried away.
A short while later, J Kidd came out. He looked terrible, as if he hadn’t slept well.
"Jason," Chen Yu called out. "I already spoke with Skiles. You can head to practice a little later. Come on, let’s talk for a bit."
J Kidd froze for a moment, then obediently followed him.
It was the same storage room as before.
But it had been cleaned more thoroughly, and the makeshift executive chair from before had been replaced with a softer sofa.
After motioning for J Kidd to sit and pouring him a glass of water, Chen Yu said, "The weather’s been nice the last couple of days. Since there was no game yesterday, did you take your son out to have some fun?"
At the mention of his son, J Kidd seemed to completely break down.
"Joumana took TJ away. She’s staying at a friend’s place, and I can’t even see him. Chen, what am I supposed to do now?"
J Kidd looked up, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Chen Yu.
Chen Yu didn’t offer an answer. Instead, he asked back, "Well, what do you think you should do?"
"I don’t know," J Kidd said, shaking his head with a pained expression.
Chen Yu remained silent, simply sitting and listening as J Kidd rambled on about how he kept calling Joumana, but she wouldn’t answer.
He also talked about the media, about the helicopters flying back and forth over his house, and how he didn’t dare to even step outside.
J Kidd rambled on for nearly five full minutes before he finally stopped.
"Sorry, I lost my composure," J Kidd said, quickly apologizing after calming himself down.
Chen Yu waved his hand, dismissing the apology. "By the way, Jason, during warm-ups the day before yesterday, I noticed you were practicing your shooting. You didn’t seem to practice it much before. What brought on the sudden change?"
J Kidd seemed taken aback for a moment, then shook his head. "I don’t know. I just thought that if I could win more games, maybe the fans and the media would forgive me. But you saw the result. They booed me and called me an abuser."
’Just as I thought,’ Chen Yu said to himself. ’It’s exactly as I predicted.’
Looking at J Kidd, Chen Yu felt the time was right. "Jason, you told me just now that you feel lost and defeated. But I think you’ve already started to make a change, to try and make up for what you’ve done. And that, right there, is a good start."
J Kidd stared intently at Chen Yu. "Really?"
"Of course." Chen Yu met J Kidd’s gaze with a look of certainty and nodded firmly.
After he spoke, Chen Yu couldn’t help but grumble internally. ’No wonder Lexi used to say those guys in the psychology department are all a bunch of frauds.’
’Here I am, spouting ambiguous phrases and feeding him all these feel-good platitudes. You wouldn’t say I’m just *like* a con artist—I’m the spitting image of one.’
"But will it even work?" J Kidd asked, frowning.
"What do you think?"
Chen Yu smiled.
J Kidd didn’t commit one way or the other, but he was clearly moved.
Chen Yu added, "Jason, you have to believe in yourself. As long as you keep trying, the problems will eventually be resolved. For example, you could start by winning the next game. What do you think?"
J Kidd thought for a moment, then nodded, his gaze growing a bit more determined.
"Alright, go on to practice."
Chen Yu stood up to see J Kidd out, thinking to himself, ’Psychology is a truly cunning game.’
’If J Kidd wins, I can tell him, ’See? You made a change, and you succeeded.’’
’If he loses, I can tell him, ’It’s alright. You’ve already started trying. Just keep at it.’’
’You’ve got all your bases covered.’
And just as J Kidd walked out the door, Chen Yu received a system notification.
