Chapter 162: Your wife is going to divorce you!

Damon let out a sigh as he watched his family emerge from the sacred waters, radiating energy and newfound strength.

His father was flexing his arms, cracking his neck like an old warrior who’d just remembered how it felt to be twenty again. "I feel like I could bench press a bear," he said with a proud grin.

His mother gave him a disapproving look, but her smile softened it. "You look ridiculous."

His brother looked more grounded than Damon had ever seen him. He was still quiet, but there was a focus in his eyes now, a stillness that hadn’t been there before. When he glanced at Damon, he gave a simple nod, an acknowledgment between siblings, free of words.

And then there was Georgina. She walked out like a queen emerging from a throne room, as if she had unlocked some sort of secret hidden power.

Damon didn’t care. If she really did unlock something like that, then good for her and good for him. At least he wouldn’t have to worry about his brother and his niece in the new world.

Finally, the little girl bounded up the slope, dripping with lakewater and pure joy. "Uncle! Uncle!" she shouted. "It felt tickly! And warm! And sparkly! Can we do it again?"

Damon knelt down and wiped a few flower petals from her cheeks. "Not until you’re older, munchkin. Come, let’s first get out of here and then talk about things."

Damon led the group to the training hall in the city, where they could talk to individual class instructors and obtain better options for classes.

The Vermillion City training hall was nestled within a large, circular plaza adorned with runic statues and glowing trees. A towering spire stood at the center, with smaller buildings surrounding it, each one tailored to a specific combat or magical discipline.

Damon motioned for them to split up. "Why don’t you guys go ahead and go to the class hall you want? It doesn’t matter what class you want to pick. Your awakening will help you make better choices." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Seeing some still hesitant, especially his mother and brother, Damon once again urged them. "It’s okay. It really doesn’t matter what class you choose. Any class could become powerful. Just do whatever you want."

Thanks to his extensive knowledge of the game, Damon was confident he would be able to help them out no matter what path they took. Unlike the popular opinion that once you commit to a path, your game life is set, Earth Online was very different in reality. There were plenty of second chances if one knew where to look for them.

Damon did not want to force his family members to select certain paths that would inevitably become superior to others. He wanted them to follow their will. In the end, there was always something to be said about playing the class that you like and are passionate about.

And just as he expected, his mother did not go towards any of the big class halls. Instead, she walked to the cooking profession hall.

Damon couldn’t help the soft chuckle that escaped him.

Of course, she’d choose cooking.

She had spent her whole life feeding the family, finding comfort in simmering pots and feeding stubborn mouths. It made sense that she would want to turn that into a strength.

His dad, on the other hand, predictably stomped straight toward the Beast Tamer hall. It looked like he was hell bent on chasing his dream of taming a dragon.

His brother lingered, still not picking any option and simply wandering about here and there as if he couldn’t make up his mind.

Georgina, however, walked straight to the witches and wizard class hall. After some time, Damon noticed that his brother had also disappeared somewhere.

Only he and the little girl were left now. "Uncle! What will I do now? I also want to pick a class and level up like everyone?" Lola pouted.

"No. No. No. No." Damon sternly shook his head. "You will be attending an academy. Got it? No matter what your mother tells you to do, this is what you should be doing. Trust your uncle."

Lola nodded. "Academy... isn’t that like school?"

Damon smiled wickedly. "It is a school."

Lola gasped. "What? You want me to attend a school inside a game?"

Damon crossed his arms, trying not to laugh at her shocked expression. "That’s right," he said with a nod. "A magical school. With spell classes, beast summoning, potion brewing, mana dueling, and maybe even flying lessons if you behave."

Lola blinked. "Flying?"

"Mm-hmm. But only if you score high on your entry exam," he said with mock seriousness. "Also, there’s detention if you mess around too much. You don’t want to end up scrubbing a bird’s scales for punishment, do you?"

Her mouth fell open in horror. "Nooo! I don’t want to clean bird butt!"

Damon burst out laughing. "Then study hard, little munchkin."

"But... what if I don’t like school?" she mumbled, tugging at the edge of his cloak.

"You don’t have to like it," he said gently, kneeling down so he was eye-level with her. "You just have to get stronger. Because things in this world... they’re not always fun and games. And one day, when you’re ready, you’ll be able to protect the people you love. Just like I’m protecting all of you now."

Lola stared at him for a second, wide-eyed and quiet. Then she nodded slowly and straightened up, her little fists clenched with dramatic resolve. "Okay. I’ll go to the magic school. But only if they let me keep sparkly pets. I want a snowy owl. Yup."

Damon ruffled her damp hair. "I’ll make sure you get a whole sparkly zoo if you stick to the plan."

Lola grinned. "Deal!"

With the matter settled, Damon stood and glanced around the plaza again. He knew it was going to take some time for everyone to get done, so he took out the little girl for some snacks.

The two of them happily hit all kinds of stalls, and Damon smiled, watching the little girl’s small face beam in happiness and excitement.

Lola darted from one food cart to the next like a squirrel on sugar, pointing at everything with sparkly eyes.

"Uncle! That fruit is glowing! Can I eat it?"

"Uncle, that smells like barbeque. I want to try it!"

"Uncle, look! That is such a delicious-looking juice. I want to drink it."

"Uncle, there is a lot of crowd over there. Maybe they are selling something super duper!"

Damon chuckled, following her at a relaxed pace as she zipped through the evening crowd.

They tried crispy mana-fried petals, liquid-light nectar candies, and even a swirled ice treat infused with faint elemental cold. At one stall, Lola convinced Damon to buy her a stuffed animal that purred when hugged. She immediately named it "Queen Marshmallow the Third."

Damon didn’t mind. He did not know when he would be able to spend time with her again like this, so he decided to enjoy himself a little bit. Finally, after about an hour, they decided to turn back to the plaza, when suddenly Damon saw his brother walking to him with a fishing pole in his hand.

Damon was gobsmacked. The next second, he buckled over and started laughing so hard that his stomach hurt. "Dude, you became a fisherman? Your wife is going to divorce you!"
