Chapter 181: Don’t joke, you silly joker

Everyone looked at Damon, waiting for him to reveal his big plan, but the man of the hour simply walked over to the inner core and sat down at the edge of the mana field. "What are you guys waiting for? There is so much to take from here. Let’s take turns and fill ourselves up with some sweet, sweet mana first." Damon simply laughed.

Sylvara’s face turned dark. "Your big plan is to make a couple of breakthroughs? For a mana core? Do you think that’s really enough to get out of here?"

Damon shrugged.

Sylvara sighed. "See, I am not blaming you. My staying back here was my own decision. I would never place that on you, but what I am trying to say is one of our clan members had already tried to form a mana core. It gives a small boost in strength, but not that much. I just want to discuss a few things with you. Don’t mistake my words for rudeness."

Damon smiled. "Ice Queen. You are different than your clan member. Your bloodline is different. When I-" Damon began, but he quickly stopped speaking. "Cough. I mean your mana core formation might bring in completely different results from your clan member’s. We won’t know until we try."

Sylvara’s face changed immediately as she realized what Damon was talking about. She let out a deep breath, calming herself first. "Okay, I will see what happens."

Damon coughed again and fished out a couple of evolution stones from his pocket. "I also have this. Did you guys go through your first evolution yet?"

Everyone shook their head.

Evolution was something yet to be introduced in the game. Typically, when one reached level 50 or in cases of special classes, they might have been informed about this process before itself. However, everyone in front of him was a special case after all. He doubted that they did not even knew what this meant.

"Varynx told me a little bit about it, but he said that I shouldn’t attempt evolution without a high-tier evolution stone," Mark spoke first. "I didn’t have a chance to get to it yet."

Damon immediately raised a brow. "Wait, that dude gave you a quest for which a high-tier evolution stone is a reward?"

Mark nodded.

"Fuck, buddy. Then this one is a loan, alright? It’s a high-grade stone. You can use it." Damon smiled bitterly as he tossed the first stone towards his friend. The life of players with blessings was indeed a lot smoother.

"Okay. Now I only have one more left." Damon immediately looked at Kate, but she shook her head. She did not have to spell it out loud. Damon already knew what she meant.

"I am going to give this one to Aurora. I think she is the strongest here after Mark. No hard feelings." Damon said.

Sylvara nodded. "I am fine. I happen to have a lower-grade evolution stone in my possession. I was waiting for a high-grade one, but given the circumstances, I can use it."

Hmmm... Damon frowned. "You could also wait and see." He suggested. It would be a pity to see her growth potential cut down by something like this, but Sylvara firmly shook her head. "I want to do this. I also have another suggestion." She looked up at the ceiling. "After evolving and forming mana core, I would like to take Mark with me upstairs and explore the upper floor to see if there indeed is a cosmic vessel in this place."

Damon nodded. "Sounds like a solid plan."

However, Mark shook his head. "Not possible. I have to be here to guard Damon."

Sylvara looked at Damon to see if he would say anything, but Damon could only shake his head. "I can’t force him."

"Then can I take Kate?"

Of course, Kate also shook her head. "I have to be here to give backup to Damon and Mark."

Sylvara could only helplessly smile at the situation. The trio was as inseparable as always. Damon then quickly jumped to use the situation. "You can take her." He pointed at Aurora, who had been giving him many secret looks for a while now. It was simply making him nervous, even though he knew she did not mean any harm.

Unexpectedly, as soon as Damon spoke, Aurora’s face changed a little. She seemed kind of angry? Damon did not like it. Fuck, he had somehow made the situation worse? His gut feeling told him that he was in danger. Blood Reign also said the same thing. "My lord, you need to appease the priestess. Quickly."

Damon hurriedly tried to salvage the situation. "What I mean is... Aurora is the strongest player here when considering everything. She is a tyrannical queen who can bring down entire armies and single-handedly claim victory for her team. Your best option is to ask her." He looked at her again, but she was still angry. This is not enough? He started running his mouth more.

"Of course, I also need her here, but there might be something valuable on the upper floors that we might need. Only she can be trusted with something like this. You should just ask her for her opinion. She is very smart." Damon awkwardly blurted out, chuckling lightly. He finally saw that the woman was smiling and let out a sigh of relief.

He then quickly walked over and handed the evolution stone to her first. "Please take this."

Aurora beamed as she received it, and unexpectedly, the next moment, she leaned forward and hugged Damon. "Thank you, Blood God. This is my first gift. I almost don’t want to use it."

Damon quickly stepped back from the hug, awkwardly laughing. "What first gift? What are you talking about? Ha ha. Don’t joke, you silly joker."

Aurora started blushing and was about to say something when Damon felt Kate’s eyes staring at his back with such an intensity that she might just burn two holes right through him.

"That’s enough chit-chatting. Don’t you guys think? After all, we are still in a life-threatening situation. Friendly hugs and chat can wait later. Ha ha. How about you three start evolving first? Kate and I can keep watch."

Damon wiped the imaginary sweat off his forehead as he somehow managed to diffuse the situation.

Behind him, Aurora still looked pleased, her fingers gently tracing the surface of the stone like it was a priceless artifact gifted by fate itself. Kate, meanwhile, stood with crossed arms and a gaze that could make fire mana shy away. Damon, wisely, chose not to meet her eyes.

Mark cleared his throat, stepping up beside him. "I will start then. Thanks for keeping an eye on my back."

Damon nodded, grateful for his friend to officially change the topic. Mark went down and sat cross-legged in front of the core area where the mana density was somewhat manageable for him. He then plopped the evolution stone into his mouth and closed his eyes.

After him, Aurora and Sylvara, both women silently walked over and did the same.

Damon watched as the three of them settled into their respective spots, each enveloped by the radiant glow of the core’s mana.
