Chapter 190: Red balls?

The journey to the location was worse than expected. Thanks to the freezing cold and the murmurs spreading, more than one guild member had picked up on Robert’s insinuations and did not like what Sylvara had been up to. Everyone accused her of being selfish and secretive.

Nevin gritted his teeth and continued moving. He did not care about this right this second. All of this could be dealt with later on. It looked like they couldn’t leave Robert’s dealings unattended for long. The influence he had built over the past few days, quietly, subtly, was beginning to rot the guild from the inside out.

And now, Sylvara, who had poured everything into this guild, was being dragged through the dirt for doing exactly what the others were too afraid to try.

The path ahead narrowed into an icy gorge flanked by jagged cliffs. Frost crackled beneath their boots, the biting wind cutting into skin like tiny blades.

Robert stayed near the rear, exchanging whispers with Mendoza and a few others. Every so often, Nevin caught a glance thrown his way, but he didn’t react. Let them look. Let them whisper. As long as they kept walking, that was enough.

Finally, after another grueling twenty minutes of trudging through snow and silence, the big crater came into view. "It’s right here." Nevin opened and closed his mouth when his eyes widened in shock. There was absolutely nothing at all in the vicinity. Everywhere he looked, there were only frozen lands and screaming winds.

For a terrifying second, Nevin’s heart nearly stopped. The metallic fortress was gone? "No... no no no..." he muttered under his breath, stumbling forward into the center of the empty crater. He spun in a slow circle, scanning the area. What happened? Where did Sylvara do? Damon? Something couldn’t have possibly happened to that monster?

Behind him, tongues started wagging once again.

"Is this a joke? Where is the dungeon entrance?"

"Why do you look like this, Nevin? Is something wrong?"

"Just like I said," Robert’s voice cut through the wind, smug and sharp. "Our dear Sylvara must’ve stumbled into some random trouble and now wants us all to bail her out. Heh? Did she die already? Maybe we should be looking in a graveyard right now."

Mendoza chuckled coldly and added insult to the injury. "So much for the hidden dungeon."

Everyone started to pile on Nevin, and the situation became worse. Thankfully, one of the other guild members, Matthew, had the common sense to do something different. He summoned his snow owl and sent it out to scout nearby areas.

The bird became tired in just a few seconds thanks to the intense cold, but it nevertheless came back with a successful chirp.

"Everyone, there is something up ahead. A few miles from here." Matthew then hesitated and added. "Some sort of red balls?"

"Beast eggs?" Robert’s eyes immediately lit up. "Come on. Let Nevin here figure out what happened to our beloved guild leader while she was secretly doing something behind our backs. We can go and take a look at the red balls. Maybe there is a world boss or some special event."

No one in the guild group objected, and everyone quickly started walking forward. A few members stayed back with him, but eventually they also left.

Nevin could only bitterly look at the ungrateful lot. Sylvara had helped out many of them personally, and yet this is the thanks she received in return. One vague accusation from Robert, and all that effort was tossed aside like garbage in the wind.

He stared at the crater one last time, his breath fogging in the air. Damon... Sylvara... where the hell were they?

Nevin clenched his fists and hurried after the others, his mind racing. Maybe the anomaly was related to them? What are the chances that something else would have happened this close to the same location?

As they trudged forward, the big red balls finally came into view. After all, they were extremely eye-catching and hard to miss. There were seven red balls in total, six of them scattered around a huge central one.

No matter from what angle they looked, these spheres were completely abnormal and appeared like some sort of special treasures or monster eggs or something like that. No one dared approach it casually, considering that something scary might pop out of it, but every single gaze was locked onto the unique blood red spheres.

Robert’s eyes gleamed with greed as he examined them carefully. After a few seconds, he took out a trident that had a silver colored snake slithering around it. Immediately, everyone gasped. The trident looked extremely unique, and the snake coiled around it was almost alive.

Many could swear that the snake opened its eyes and looked right at them. Just looking at the staff sent a chill down their spines.

Robert snorted arrogantly, without caring about the looks of awe and respect. The next second, he lifted his trident and then banged it down onto the ground.

BOOM.

A pulse of silver icy lightning exploded outward from the impact, shattering the ice crust in a fifty-meter radius and sending a shockwave through the snow-covered valley. The power of the simple attack left everyone staring in shock.

"How powerful!"

"No wonder he is already at the 8th break point. He is a true genius!"

"Robert, be careful. You are more important to the guild than these treasures!"

Everyone started singing his praises and gulping down their saliva after seeing the demonstration of power. However, Robert did not look satisfied. He opened a potion bottle and drank some sort of silver liquid.

With a determined look in his eyes, he once again struck the trident on the ground. This time, shockingly, the snake that was curled up around his staff actually lifted its head and hissed. A high, shrill sound came out that pierced through the wind and burrowed into everyone’s skulls like an invasive thought.

The next moment, an even more powerful shockwave exploded from the impact. The power of this attack was so high that many of the guild members couldn’t handle it any longer and were brought to their knees.

Everyone looked at Robert with shock and fear. Just how powerful had he become!

Robert, however, still had eyes only for the blood spheres. He licked his lips and grinned as he finally saw faint cracks appearing on the blood spheres.

"What are you all looking at? Attack those spheres!" He commanded, taking another step forward. Whatever was inside was going to be his, and this time he was going to completely dominate the guild and finally put an end to the old man who no longer belonged in this world.

"You can go fuck yourself, my beloved grandfather!" Robert licked his lips again as he once again banged his trident on the ground, this time using one hundred percent of his strength.

An even more enormous shockwave erupted, and icy lightning scattered everywhere, instantly draining the health of many. Robert couldn’t care less about whether anyone dies or not. His gaze was now on the central, bigger blood sphere that finally showed signs of cracking.

"Attack! Now!" He shouted. One by one, all the guild members immediately started attacking without holding back. The effect was instantaneous as the blood spheres now started directly breaking apart.

Robert let loose one final attack, which completely sealed the deal and blasted everything right open.

Mendoza grinned in glee. "Robert! You did it! Even these blood spheres cannot hold out against your power! Boss, you are amazing!"

"Thankfully, Robert was present here. Because of this, we were able to easily find and deal with these red spheres!"

"Tanks, everyone, protect Robert. He needs to be protected at all costs. He is our main offense."

The guild members quickly began preparing for whatever steps out of the blood red orbs. At the same time, they made sure to sing a lot of praises about the guy who was no doubt one day going to rule their whole clan.

Only Nevin remained solemn as his eyes locked on the central big sphere, which all of a sudden started vibrating. Then, with an unexpected explosive force, the remaining fragments of the sphere burst open as a figure stepped outside from within it.

Shockingly, it was a human?

While everyone was staring dumbfoundedly at the scene, a familiar voice rang out amidst the storm and the blizzard.

"What are you all yapping about? Isn’t it just dry husks? What’s so great about breaking apart a few dry husks? All you did was disturb my really good nap."
