When time had stopped, and those choices appeared, Ainsworth was surprised to trigger a welfare choice event, as it had never appeared before.
After reading the system texts, he soon discovered the difference between a normal choice event and a welfare choice event.
βUnlike a normal choice event, almost all the choices are similar, as the process may be different, but the result is the same. Whatever choice Iβll take, it will end up with me becoming Elyndraβs fiancΓ© or husband.β
βMoreover, this is the second time I encountered a situation where the last choice includes a reward rather than none at all. Iβve already triggered a lot of choice events, yet most of them donβt give a choice reward for the last choice.β
Checking the choice reward of God-Level Lovers (Sealed), Ainsworth discovered:
βThis is truly a welfare event, as from what the system description had clarified to me, the sealed version of God-Level Lovers works almost the same as the unsealed one. The only difference is that the sealed version will only be usable if I encounter a new lover that Iβll be with, as it will no longer be usable with Elyndra.β
βSo the first, second, and third choices are using the God-Level Lovers talent with Elyndra. On the other hand, the last choice is for if I changed my mind and decided to break up with Elyndra and change lovers.β
Ainsworth had already asked the system for the description of the God-Level Lovers talent, and it truly was a broken talent.
In the end, Ainsworth chose Choice 2 and received the God-Level Lovers talent.
He didnβt bother much about choosing which of the three choices, as they were almost the same. Moreover, he didnβt want to choose the last option, as with the ten days he spent with Elyndra on the private island, he already got to know her well.
His decision to be with her until the end of his life was firm.
After Ainsworth made his choice, he soon woke up Elyndra from her sleep.
When Elyndra woke up, Ainsworth brushed aside a strand of her snow-white hair and quietly said, "Ely, if you want, I can support you in the throne succession trial. Iβll stand by you openly. If you want to be my wife, I can declare it in front of everyone."
His tone was calm but firm, as if the matter was already decided.
"With me at your side, the trial will be nothing. No one will be able to touch you."
Elyndra blinked, still half asleep, her mind slow to catch up with his words.
For a moment, she simply stared at him, confused as to why he was suddenly bringing this up again.
They had already talked about it on the private island. They had already acknowledged each other. They had slept in each otherβs arms for ten days straight. They had become lovers. His promise wasnβt new.
But Ainsworthβs eyes were steady. He looked at her as if repeating the promise wasnβt out of necessity, but instinct.
As if he needed her to hear it again.
Elyndraβs confusion softened. She lifted a hand and cupped his cheek, her thumb brushing the corner of his lips.
"...Silly," she whispered.
Before he could respond, she leaned in and kissed him. It wasnβt passionate, just a slow, warm kiss that lingered between them.
When she pulled back, her lips curved into a sleepy smile.
"Iβll take your word for it," she said.
Ainsworth looked at her for a long moment. The faint morning light caught her golden eyes, still hazy with sleep, and something inside him tightened.
The system reward he had received was only a confirmation of what he already intended to do. His choice wasnβt made because of a talent. It was because he had already decided to walk beside her.
For him, the God-Level Lovers talent reward he received was merely a cherry on top.
Elyndra rested her head on his chest. She still hadnβt completely woken up, but her arms wrapped around him with a natural familiarity, as if they had held each other like this for years rather than days.
Ainsworth held her waist, his hand moving in slow, gentle circles as he spoke again.
"Ely... once we meet your parents, and I participate in the Valtoria Throne Succession Trial to support you, I wonβt let you face anything alone."
Her eyes softened at his voice. "Ains... I know."
She tilted her head up, ready to kiss him again.
But this time, Ainsworth moved first. He leaned in and captured her lips in a light, warm kiss that made her breath catch.
When he pulled back slightly, he looked straight into her eyes.
"Elyndra, do you want to be my lover for all eternity?"
Elyndra blinked, momentarily stunned. For a heartbeat, she wondered if she was still dreaming. Ainsworth wasnβt normally this intense so early in the morning.
But she trusted him. If he was acting unusually, there had to be a reason. Besides, she didnβt mind him being unexpectedly affectionate.
She smiled softly and answered without hesitation.
"I will. Like Iβve said before, you are mine, and I am yours. If you ever die, Iβll follow you into the afterlife."
