SSS Class Mythic Beast Master-Chapter 389: Helping Out
Scáth’s final story ended with her grinning wickedly at the memory of a particularly close call. The fire had burned lower now, coals glowing orange-red, heat still radiating, but the flames themselves reduced to occasional flickers.
Reinhard laughed at something Bruno said, the sound genuine and relaxed. Then he paused, head tilting slightly as a thought surfaced. "So I learned something interesting recently."
His light blue eyes reflected firelight as he looked around the circle. "Apparently, a lot of us have related Beast Spirits."
The entire group went still, conversations cut off mid-sentence. Every face turned toward Reinhard with varying expressions of surprise and intense curiosity.
"Wait, what?" Irene leaned forward, cyan eyes sharp with interest. "Which ones are related?"
"Tell us!" Suzy’s green eyes sparkled with excitement.
Reinhard shifted in his chair, organizing his thoughts. "Well... Apparently, Scáth’s Beast Spirit is Scáthach, and Janus’s is Cú Chulainn. They’re from the same era and time period." He paused for emphasis, watching faces process this. "In fact, they knew each other. Scáthach was Cú Chulainn’s teacher, the one who trained him, shaped him into the warrior he became, and taught him the skills that made him legendary."
Scáth’s wine-colored eyes widened before a slow, delighted grin spread across her face. She turned her gaze directly to Janus, who had gone very still.
"That’s not all," Reinhard continued. "Honor’s Beast Spirit Thanatos and Gran’s Beast Spirit Hercules are from the same time and on the same side." His expression grew more surprised. "And Anasha’s future Beast Spirit Nyx is also from their time period, though not on their side."
"Anasha’s future Beast Spirit... Wait, is Anasha a-" Gran started, but Reinhard nodded.
"Yeah, she is a blessed one." Marie says with a finger to her lips, leading Gran’s lips to twitch and the others’ eyes to shine in awe.
"Still to think our Beast Spirit was related." Gran muttered, his brown eyes widened behind his glasses. He exchanged a look with Roana, who appeared equally surprised by this information.
"The Cups and Casseo all have Beast Spirits from the same era, too." Reinhard added. "Different specific time periods within it, but the same overall book, so to speak. Different Chapters." He gestured to Kite and Jake. "And your Beast Spirits, which are the Vermillion Bird and Qilin, are similar. Related but from different times. They were known for being part of a symbol or group."
Kite’s blond-blue tipped hair caught firelight as he turned to Jake, both of them processing this revelation with visible excitement.
"And Irene." Reinhard said, meeting her cyan eyes. "Your Achilles lived at the same time as Gran’s Hercules and Anasha’s Nyx."
Irene’s eyes widened in shock and delight.
The silence stretched for exactly three seconds.
Then Scáth giggled, a sound that somehow managed to be both delighted and predatory, and she turned to Janue. "Then maybe I should start training you, Janus. It’s only right, don’t you think?"
Janus shivered visibly, shifting in his chair. His expression carried genuine alarm. "Maybe let’s not do that."
Laughter exploded around the bonfire.
Bruno nearly fell out of his chair, Marie doubled over, and even Vanna’s lips curved into a smile.
"I mean, it makes some sense." Gran said once the laughter subsided, pushing his glasses up. His mind is already working through implications. "If the Beast Spirits knew each other in their original time, that connection might influence how Beast Masters interact."
"It would explain some coordination patterns," Roana added thoughtfully, grey hair shifting as she nodded. "The reason certain combinations work better together."
Irene’s fingers drummed against her knee, already making mental notes. "This is fascinating from a research perspective. The connections between Beast Spirits across different Beast Masters-"
"It’s more than research." Nikki interrupted cheerfully. "It’s like we’re all connected through time. Our Beast Spirits’ relationships create bonds between us now."
Kyle’s violet eyes were distant, thoughtful. "I wonder if that’s why some teams form more naturally than others."
"Maybe the Cup formation wasn’t entirely accidental..." Lloyd admitted quietly, brown hair falling across his forehead. "We all just... Fit together easily, and maybe our Beast Spirit pushed us to be a group together?"
The conversation continued with theories and questions overlapping, people making connections, excitement building as they realized the implications.
The fire popped occasionally, punctuating discussions with sparks.
Then Marie clapped her hands together suddenly, the sound sharp enough to cut through multiple conversations. "Oh! This reminds me! Reinhard and Joseph are going to the Colin Forest soon to hunt for Beast Sigils."
Scáth perked up immediately, straightening in her chair with visible enthusiasm. "Well, you guys are Second Class Beast Master as well, so that makes sense."
Nikki hums and says. "I am still surprised you guys reached that level so fast."
"Well, we’ve been through a lot." Joseph says as he glances at Janus, both of their lips twitching.
"Who cares, it just means they aren’t slacking! As for Colin Forest, I want to go too! I need to hunt for my own Sigil as well." Scath with a grin.
Roana sighed, but she nodded. "Me as well. It would be beneficial."
Gran and Nikki exchanged glances, then both nodded their agreement.
Marie beamed, platinum hair seeming to glow brighter with her excitement. "Then we can go on a trip together! This will be perfect!"
Janus chuckled, shaking his head with genuine regret. "I plan to head back to Eastern Hesod soon, so I can’t come unfortunately."
"We have to visit our families," Lloyd added apologetically.
The rest of the Cup nodded agreement, Bruno’s enthusiasm dimming slightly, Suzy’s smile turning sympathetic, Kyle and Jessie both looking genuinely disappointed.
The Dream Interpretation Club members sighed collectively, a sound of deep longing mixed with acceptance.
"We can’t summon our Beast Spirits yet." Alger said, fuchsia eyes losing some of their usual mischief.
Irene’s twin-tails drooped slightly. "I wish we could go on expeditions like that."
Scáth perked up again, wine-colored eyes brightening with sudden inspiration. "Maybe we can help you guys connect better with your Beast Spirits?"
Roana raised an eyebrow, gold eyes skeptical. "How?"
Scáth hummed, fingers tapping against her knee as she organized her thoughts. "Doesn’t the connection grow when the Beast Spirit sees your will, mental strength, and confidence in yourself grow?"
Roana nodded slowly, following the logic.
"Then we just need to increase their will, mental strength, and confidence in themselves," Scáth concluded with a grin.
Everyone blinked before some heads began nodding slowly as the idea took root. Others raised eyebrows, expressions questioning.
"But how?" Resa asked, leaning forward with curiosity.
Brunhilde hummed softly, her gentle smile appearing. "Actually, we’ve already been helping them."
Everyone except the Dream Club paused, and faces turned toward Brunhilde with identical expressions of confusion.
Multiple voices spoke simultaneously. "We have?"
Brunhilde’s faint smile remained as she looked directly at Resa. "Tell me, before you came on this trip, did it feel scary spending a vacation with third and fourth years?"
Resa blinked, shifting in her chair. Her fingers twisted together briefly before she nodded slowly. "I did wonder if I had a place here... I kind of felt like I might be invisible or ignored."
"And how about now?" Brunhilde’s voice stayed gentle. "Do you feel the same?"
Resa shook her head rapidly, a smile spreading across her face. "I was surprised I got accepted so quickly and have been having a blast!"
"Then, if you were invited to another trip with other third and fourth years, would you feel scared?"
Resa paused, considering seriously, and her head shook slowly. "I think I wouldn’t feel as nervous."
Brunhilde nodded with satisfaction. "The best way to build confidence is through experience. And the Dream Club has experienced going on vacation with not only third and fourth years, but with me, a First Class Beast Master."
Silence fell as everyone processed this, and then understanding rippled through the group.
"That’s true." Gran said quietly. "Going on a trip with a First Class Beast Master does make a lot of things seem... Less intimidating."
"It normalizes situations that would otherwise be overwhelming." Joseph added thoughtfully.
Reinhard smiled, warmth spreading through his chest. "Then we can do other things to train their will and belief in themselves."
Instantly, the others began nodding around the bonfire without any hesitation.
Irene, Resa, Alger, Jake, and Kite all trembled slightly. Jake’s voice came out soft, almost hesitant. "Uh, but you guys are here to relax and have fun. We wouldn’t want to-"
Marie giggled and reached over, flicking Jake’s forehead lightly. "You’re our friends, Jake. We would gladly help you before having fun. And besides, it would be a lot more fun if you could also fully connect with your Beast Spirits and bring a piece of them into reality. Right, everyone?"
Scáth laughed with a nod. "Of course!"
"I want to see your Beast Spirits!" Bruno declared enthusiastically, green eyes alight.
Suzy clapped her hands together. "This will be amazing!"
"And besides, it would be fun to go to Colin Forest with everyone." Janus says softly, leading Llyod to chuckle but nod his head.
The Dream Club members trembled again, but this time with emotion rather than nervousness.
All five of them smiled, then laughed.
"Then we are in all of your care." They said together.
